    Injector pulsers are a main staple component in the arsenal of a modern automotive technician, D I Y aficionado or enthusiasts, who needs to perform diagnostics on fuel injectors. The uses for a fuel injector pulses are varied. It is used to pulse and measure the electrical characteristics and general health of an injector, to determine if the injector is clogged, by doing a fuel flow test, and for to fast pulse and clean the injector using special solvents. In essence, this device is what you'll find inside the ECM, with the exception that the LM555 timer chip is substituted by the ECM processor.
    As with many of our other gadgets, this circuit can be built into an inexpensive universal PC board. The LM555 timer is a popular oscillator chip that creates the pulse signal. It is a 25 cent component. This entire circuit can be built for less than 4 dollars. An LM 393, or Dual Differential Comparator chip is also used to create the duty cycle part of the signal. The other components are off the shelf resistors, potentiometers and small capacitors readily available anywhere.
    This circuit works as follows.
    This device uses a built in pulse width modulated signal generator circuit for triggering a power MOSFET, which is a high current transistor. This particular transistor, the IRF740 is rated up to 400V and can switch around 10 Amps which ...

    Thanks, it's actually very easy. Get PC board seen here at RS, and populate the board with these parts. Go to Home Depot or online enclosures and purchase case or box. For probably $5 you could make this gadget. It's a lot more expensive to buy already made. Good luck and thanks.

    Yes, that's to do an injector flow test. This is a pulser mainly but can be easily adapted to do say a 50mS pulse test. Play with the circuit and you're welcome to post here...

    To test an injector to see that they are balanced there should be a certain injection time .How long will this device pulse the injector?Should there be an on/off switch or does it shut itself off after a certain time so you can accurately test each injector to see if they inject the same amount of fuel in a given time.

    You can not use pin 3 output of LM555 because its a square wave output and it duty cycle was only about 50% to 40% duty cycle.
    This Fuel 'injector Pulser circuit need a variable square waveform out put for the fuel injector..
    So, the design utilize the sawtooth output of pin 2 and pin6 ( Charging and discharging voltage of 47 nf.)
    LM393 will convert the sawtooth waveform into a variable square wave required by the fuel injector by varying voltage of 10k resistor reference voltage...

There are also the 170 dollar yellow-orange scanner from your local autoparts, which do the job fairly ok. There are dozens of options, but get the names and post here so I can help you out. It seem the values for the resistors and cap on the 555 are to large. What freq ranger should I be seeing. According to my calculation even if I reduce the 1M pot down to 100 ohms you would still only get 2.5 pulses per second.
    Sorry I'm bad I read the cap at 47uF not nF, back to the breadboard.

    Hi adpt I build this circuit exactly as you put it in the youtube video. Dispite the led flashing and the potentiometers werking I Cannot get a pulse signal from the injector output. I'm using a buz11 FET which should be a direct replacement for the IRF740.
    Do I need to connect the (555output pin 3) to the (393input + pin3) in order to get this thing to work?
    Cheers

    • @ADPTraining
      @ADPTraining  Před 10 lety

      Thomas Rouw Ok, first things first. Are you getting a pulse at Pin 3 of the 555 when you check with a scope. In my observation after dealing with a few 555 timer circuits, the quality of the wave is very important. So, check that and get back we me. PS. I've had cases whereby the waveform looks nice and square on the 555, but fails to do anything for whatever reason.

      I checked and am getting apulse from 3 but in you drawing this is not connected
      I tried running pin 3 of the 555 directly to the gate on the BUZ11 but that did not do anything. Anyway the led connected to the FET is blinking and I can alter the speed and duration of the blinking so the PWM part seems to be working however when I connect a load like in injector/bulb/relaiscoil the load is not actuated.

    • @thomasrouw
      @thomasrouw Před 10 lety

      Also how would the output p3 of the 555 be wired to the comparator? I just leave p2 connected as is in the drawing?

    • @ADPTraining
      @ADPTraining  Před 10 lety

      Ok, so the pulse part is working. THat's a start. Now, there are two possibilities here, the Pre amp part is not properly triggering the output driver or the driver transistor itself is not working properly. You need to check and see what happens when a load is administered. Can the driver provide the current? Is the Pre amp providing enough to driver the transistor? The second question is kind of senseless, but remember, I'm going from what I've seen in practice prototyping our stuff. I think the issue is in the driver stage. Maybe your substitute transistor is not the right one. Please, post back with your findings..... Mandy.

    Copywritten? You mean the video itself and not the material contained within, correct? That circuitry can be found in many circuit design books and is included as a requirement in many EE and technical classes. 555 timer circuits are ubiquitous. In addition, that MOSFET is not amplyfying anything. It is being used as a switch to allow the twelve volts to pass to the injectors. Simplistically, the 555 is used to drive the gate of the MOSFET or base of a BJT in saturation. The load presented by the injectors regulates the amount of current they receive. All else aside, nice circuit, but the circuit itself is not yours. It is for public use without any restrictions. Nice try.
