I've seen 100's of 'How to Videos' but this one from Roger's Shop was the best presentation of How To Build A Birdhouse I've ever seen. He couldn't have made it any easier to teach anyone how to build a birdhouse. Congratulations! If you're not already a wood shop teacher somewhere, you should be.

Brilliant makes - thank you for posting. I love these uncomplicated, sturdy little homes for birdies. I never knew robins preferred a platform to build a nest on. I also love that you shaped the corners of the floor to allow drainage. ♥

If you recess the bottom 1/2" it will keep the bottom from rotting out so fast, as the water will not wick around the side board and up into the crack.

Good job on presentation. I make and sell birdhouse at our local county farmers market. I make them very similar to you. I would add that there are few good books and plans you can download that give you the footprint dimension, hole size and location from floor ,height mounting, at best situation to put them in (open grassy fields, wooded or semi wooded etc).
Building them to be species specific and something that will be useful and used is important as opposed to being just a decorative
The ones I most typically make are bluebird, Carolina Wren and house finch. I also make screech owl houses and bat houses.

I find it helps to put the parts into a vice or clamp during assembly so you can have at least one hand free. I made some bird houses over ten years ago and they are still being used today. Great little projects. Cheers,

Thank you so much for spending so much time on this video and sharing your expertise. I also appreciate that you care about projects for children and that you aren't doing this for thousands of views and getting sponsors. By the way, I also have a circular saw that doesn't work unless you plug it in as I've found out several times! It is an old Craftsman and was my dad's. Growing up everything we had was from Sears from clothes washer to tools and those Craftsman tools really held up. Thanks again.

I enjoyed your video. Even though I've made lots of bird houses over the last couple of decades, I'm always looking for tips and new ideas. I have a robin that makes a nest every year on top of my front porch light which is protected by the overhead roof. I decided 3 years ago to make a robin box similar to yours but a little bigger and attached it to my porch wall right beside my porch light. They still build a nest on top of the light instead of in the robin box I built. The light bulb must put off some heat that they prefer, who knows. Also, just FYI, a female bluebird can raise up to 3 clutches of babies in the same bird house if you remove the old nest as soon as the last baby has flown the coop. Fledglings generally won't return to the nest, although they might hang out for a while nearby hoping mamma or papa will still feed them. By the way, your workshop is to die for! Thanks for the video.

Roger got most of the elements of building bird boxes that are safe of eggs and chicks but missed a couple things. Predator blocks are essential to keep predators from reaching in and taking eggs and chicks, There is inadequate ventilation which means boxes and eggs and chicks can succumb to excess heat, always add a few shallow kerf saw cuts below the access hole inside and out. The inside cuts allow chicks to climb out when they fledge. Rather than have the floor drop out, I have one of the side pieces hinge open for ease of cleaning and checking eggs and chicks. Roger knows what hw is doing but I think he'll agree the most important thing is the safety of eggs and chicks.

The motoric shaking comes from lectins that goes into the leky gut holes and enters the bloodstream and travel up the vagus nerve to the brain. Lectins are now known to be able to “crawl” inside nerves. It has been shown that lectins can travel up the vagus nerve from the stomach to the area of the substantia nigra in the brain and get deposited in an area that leads to Parkinson's disease/condition.The most common symptom of lectin sensitivity include gut problems, brain fog, anxiety, depression, insomnia, skin conditions, and fatigue. This can be prevented with not eating anything containing these compounds like nuts and seeds like peanuts and peas to mention two but can be found in many products.
