Just a helpful tip from a flight attendant, pleaseeeee just use water brushes. If we hit turbulence, your dirty water could not only ruin your clothes/stuff but whoever is sitting next to you as well. We do not have cleaning supplies onboard. Be courteous to your neighbors 😘 Also a tip, if you’re using water brushes, just cut a sponge and put it in the water reservoir and dampen it, don’t soak it, to clean your brush between uses.
THANK YOU. im not even a flight attendant but the sole thought of all of that paint or water getting onto the person im brushing my elbow with every 5 minutes gives me anxiety 🥲 ive sketched with pens or drew on ipad but ill never pull out watercolors, i dont like waterbrushes so its just not for me. have you ever seen an accident like that happen before?
Nice review! Just a little extra, I use my hot glue gun to add a small dot/nob of glue to my travel brush so it won’t roll away.
I got mine with Holbein Gouache and I love it!
My choices were:
Primary White
Primary Black
Primary Yellow
Primary Magenta
Primary Cyan
Burnt Umber
I have found these colors to be perfecrt for me. BUT I would have loved an 8 wells palette to include Yellow Ocbre and Burnt Sienna which I use A LOT. But of course those 2 are super easy to mix once a Burnt Umber is available.... still I would love an 8 wells!
I want one!! As of March 2023, there is a 16-well version, woo hoo!!
They developed some new pans for their palettes, including the micro. I have 16 colors in my micro! (yes, it’s too many, I just did it because I could). Makes them even more versatile, and they are really good little palettes. Your painting came out lovely, and it’s a great way to pass the time on a plane. Spent 20 years traveling for work, never want to get on another plane again.
Yes, I thought about getting some extra pans. I love the simplicity of split primaries though!
Love it! Thank you for sharing 🙏
Wow, so beautiful ❤️
Looked fun, what a great way to pass the time on a boring flight!
I have tried painting on a plane, very fun! I will have to check out this Micro palette.
Amazing you did such fresh work in 30 minutes! Sometimes it is good to have a time limit to prevent over working. Several months ago, I bought the same set from Amazon. I was just going to buy the original, but then I saw the combo pack. I have not tried the mini yet. The original I bought to take out on my patio to paint, so I did not have to make several trips with my regular palette, brushes, etc. It has worked out really well. Genius design!
I do this every time I fly. It's fun
I agree!
Thank you for the helpful review!
You're most welcome!
Ha! I used to prepare some 4x5 drawings for some long flights…no sense in sleeping when others are drooling! I did 4 or five of these until I decided the risk of dropping the water, brush etc was not worth it any longer so I switched to working on finished drawings in my sketchbook. I would used double-sided tape to stick the water and palette onto the table. I even made a small incline for the watercolor paper. They were fun to do and thankfully I never spilled or dropped anything, but…..
I love painting on a plane. Time goes by so much quicker. I use my QOR mini palette.
Sounds perfect!
I want it!!
Great inspiration to try to paint all cramped up again for next flight. I have the original, but am impressed with this new product. I have a travel bag etc and get lazy and watch movies, but cheered when you said you listened to audio book as you worked. That would be my usual whenever I paint so I need to do that on the plane!
Yay I hope you’ll bring your paints next flight!
Your work turned out amazing! Great tips, especially choosing colors and pouring the water back into the spray bottle.
Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you for sending the colors you put in yours. I just bought one of the mini palettes and will try them out?❤
Of course!! Have fun!
Great idea! Micro palette, brush, small pieces of paper, water and paper towel…all in a little pouch…ready to go. And it can be tucked anywhere!! Thanks for sharing! BTW…beautiful painting ❤️
My pleasure! Thanks for your nice comment, Nell!
Such a great video/review ❤👍👍
🙌🙌🙌
Haha you absolutely rock it in that plane Emily!!! 🤣😁😃😃😃
Haha thanks!
Thank you. I've had many "cozy" window seat opportunities, ha ha
Helpful: thank you
I have both, but wow...I didn't get that price! Good for you! I have used my mini yet, haven't been sure what colors I've wanted to commit to it, but loved seeing what you used. Hope you had a wonderful trip❤
It was great! Thanks so much for your comment!
There are multiple pan options and now you you can fit much more than just 6 colors in that small palette
I’ve seen that! Lots of fun options!
WOW ❤️ I have the DS 6 color essentials set this palette would be perfect for. My hubs keeps showing it to me at Blick when we go there and I keep saying no too small. You got me rethinking this. If you can use it on a plane it could go anywhere. Thanks!❤️
Absolutely! Good color choices!
“…Poured the dirty water back into the spray bottle” sounds super dumb, but I would have never thought of that. I would have just sopped it up with the rest of the paper towel and tossed it.
You could totally do that too! I’ve left the dirty water in my spray bottle too long and it permanently stained it. 🤣
@@EmilyOlsonArt put some dry rice and a bit of dish detergent and a little bit of water in your spray bottle then plug the hole and shake vigorously for a minute or two and pour the rice/water out somewhere. It will clean basically any bottle super easily and does the scrubbing for you. You only need a teaspoon or two of rice, a teaspoon of hot water and a squirt of Dawn or similar strong dish washing liquid. It works brilliantly for my paint bottles so should be great for you too!
What is the best way to get rid of the dirty water in the bottle safely?
We are taking a long haul flight next month. With layovers about 17 hours! I have another travel palette. Some great ideas. I may need the micro palette too.
Yes, enjoy the painting time!
nice
They make new pans now for the Micro, so I have 16 colors in mine. I hang in on a lanyard around my neck.
Yes! I do have these--haven't played with them...yet!
So no hassle from TSA screening? Cool, they want to know what's in the metal pallets but won't open it too look. My experience long ago. I avoid airports when I can.
Hi. I like how that blue looked. Was that Winsor Blue a Green Shade or Red Shade? It was hard to tell.
I use GS. :)
i've tried sketching on a plain but I just couldnt get my sketch book from the bottom of my backpack since it was in the bottom. next time its going near the top for easy access.
Truly, that’s the hardest part! 🤣
Sometimes I've thought about doing watercolours in a plane but.... residual water problem is always there. Returning to the bottle? Mmmmm...
