Rest assured, I'm not still working on the Lateralus video. I filmed this over a month ago. :D
You should understand that the album is the piece of art.
@@ianscottt3642 all their albums are
Hah, loved your reaction on the first notes of Jambi đ. Yes, the song is on the 10.000 days album (which also contains your first Tool crush, "The Pot"). If I'm correct "right in two" ( also a song from that album) is going to be the next reaction in line. Another great song on that album is "Vicarious". If you like another song with a great Maynard finish, try "Eulogy" (although you might not like the unclear megaphone voice effect in the song, he sounds like a manic street preacher). Keep the lyrics ready for that one.
When Maynard is holding a note, you could call it the "Maintainard". And angry Maynard is "Angraynard".
Yes it's a tube thingy... voice box.đ
To see funny Maynard watch Bullet train to Iowa, or Conditions of my Parole. By Puscifer. Both videos are very funny
Yes, you are correct on that guitar effect you were asking about, the tube on the microphone. It's called a talk box. Peter Frampton pioneered that effect on Do You Feel Like I Do, a hugely influential song.
Other than Frampton pioneering it you're correct. Heil built the first one for Joe Walsh (with Joe Walsh?), and he undoubtedly used it in live shows before Frampton recorded anything with it. I'm unclear if Rocky Mountain Way or DYFLID came out first (both 73). Either way talk boxes were built and used for decades before that in other forms on steel guitar/etc.
Tool Army General checking in. Private Lauren, your favorite Tool song is and always will be the one you are currently listening to. Dismissed. đ€
Lol. Love it. Thats funny!!!
lmao that's hilarious
Lol!! I like that GeneralâŠđđ
Lauren........they're all THAT good......so cool taking this journey with you...you're awesome
Descending is my favorite tool song at the moment. It's on their latest album Fear Innoculum.
You will love it.
Agreed, itâs an incredible experience
@@jrexplores5488 Indeed...
Every TOOL song is amazing. You wonât find a bad one thatâs for sure
Ehhhhhhh ever hear Swamp Song đ
@@jimmy45481 lol I like swamp song too!!
đđŻ
What? Swamp Song is fucking amazing! My band opens with that song, we've been melting people's faces man
Loving the Tool reactions. Please, keep them coming. :) For "angry" Maynard, maybe, try Ticks and Leeches or Jerk-off.
Hooker with a penis is my favorite "angry Maynard"
100% Tics and Leeches. At least if angry is what were going for.
Part of Me is good for "angry Maynard"
âSo whatâs your favorite Tool song?â All tool fans- âYesâ
Eulogy by tool
a cute story about the song - the band will always write the music first, before maynard reacts with his vocals/lyrics. In early stages of the music, the band will usually have a "working title" in place for reference before the lyrics. With this song, one of the rhythm/bass lines that Justin wrote reminded the band of a chant that Jambi from PeeWee's Playhouse would do.... so, as a working title the band referred to it as "Jambi" and Maynard kept it for the title in the end..
Jambi's chant:
czcams.com/video/XN5kVvR8VQI/video.html
mecca lecka high mecca heiny ho
Yes the title is after peewees genie and yes that is a talkbox
It's time for "Pushit" :)
It should be a two Tool tuesday videos of both Pushit versions.
Jambi...jambi..Jambi? Like the floating blue genie-head inside of the box from Peewee's Playhouse? The one who grants WISHES, which is apparently a central theme in this song? Cool.
I can't wait to see how you like emotive, vulnerable, and contemplative Maynard. Once you get through Tool, there's lots of APC and Puscifer to react to as well. Great reaction, thanks for posting!
Thicks and Leeches from Lateralus. You will be suprised with Maynard vocals on this one.
Thick44 your nobody!!!
I think you're ready for Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
Are you sure? She lost track of the lyrics in "stinkfist", and he was singing pretty slowly there. đ
So, I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions. I can(not) wait for your reaction to Pneuma. I honestly think your head will explode.
Watching Tool reactions has been the closest thing, for me, to experiencing them for the first time all over again. I eagerly await the next!
This song is a LOT of fun to see live. Amazing light show with it.
The guitarist Adam Jones was asked why he doesnât rock our more during their concerts. He said heâs too busy counting.
That pause in the music is called THE DROP! You are totally correct about the sound effect used by Adam Jones about the tube on the microphone.
Jambi is in my top 10 Tool songs. A great song from a great album! Hooker With A Penis is vintage Angry Maynard!
And I caught you from 13:25 to 13:30 doing tiny little headbangs đ€đ€Łđ€
Opitate EP was 1992 - try Jerk Off for truly angry sound. Undertow 1st full album 1993 - Sober live is classic & would be an interesting reaction (especially to Maynard). Then AEnima in 1996 (first with Justin on bass) - lots of great stuff (my 2nd fav), H is the one about his son & Eulogy is awesome with a classic 'Maynard' at the end. Salival was 2000 - mostly live stuff, but also a tremendous studio cover of Led Zep 'No Quarter'. Live PushIt from this is a must listen, Maynard's performance is incredible. Then the best album ever Lateralus in 2001. Jambi was on next album - 10000 Days (approx # of days between his mothers stroke / paralysis and death - Wings 1 & 2 are his emotional tribute to her). Another great listen - Vicarious & the wild Rosetta Stoned. Then had the big time break, up to most recent Fear Inoculum in 2019 where you get less Maynard, but really hear the maturation of their sound - Pneuma & Descending stand out to me. People are right - really difficult to find a poor Tool song.
I donât think thereâs a single tool song I DONT wanna see you react to lmao
@13:57 It's called a Talk Box, and yes. The tube carries the guitar sound from a small amplifier/speaker into the mouth, which then modulates the sound by mouthing the words. No breathing or talking involved. Then the microphone pick up the sound.
Essentially, the guitar sound replaces the sound made by the vocal chords. Then the mouth shapes it as normal. Except you salivate a lot because there's a 1/2" tube in your mouth.
tube attached to a microphone, guitar tone goes through the tube, into the mouth, resonates and bounces back into the mic to make that crazy effect. TalkBox
I hope you're able to see them Live.!
We will wait "patiently"....
If you really, really wanna hear ANGRY Maynard, you gotta listen the Opiate ep. That's raw Tool
This is necessary...
The title actually does have to do with the genie Jambi;
âIts title has been said to primarily refer to the iambic meter used in the lyrics of the song, as 'jambi' means 'iamb' in Finnish. Drummer Danny Carey stated that when bassist Justin Chancellor played the bass track of the song, it instantly reminded him of the children's television program Pee-wee's Playhouse, then singer Maynard James Keenan thought of the genie "Jambi" and had the idea to make the song's theme about making wishes.â
Ok, seeing as how we're a month behind your Tool reactions, I'm just going to assume you've listened to "Crawl Away", "Bottom", and/or "Jerk Off" and stop recommending them. I will move on to recommending "Ticks and Leeches" and "Descending". Thank you. :)
Shine on forever ..thats gorgeous maynard as well
This song blows a hole in the universe. Bass!!
Sometime if you get bored, listen to Jambi again, paying particular attention to the lyrics towatd the end of the song. Then listen to a song called Jimmy on the Aenima album. I think you'll be fascinated at how these two songs relate lyrically, even though Jimmy was written years before.
Looooove the Talk box effect from Adam!
I have a different interpretation than some to this song. I think itâs about their relationships with each other, with fame and success, their unity as a band and their vision for themselves and the entity that is Tool đ
It's a song for his son Devo Keenan
You're not alone Lauren !! Keep the faith !
Actually the song IS named after the genie from Pee Wee's playhouse. One of them (Danny I believe) said it reminded him of the music for him or something like that...look it up if you need to know. But the song is about the Maynard's son Devo H. Keenan (that's a hint for another song). I love this song because it reminds me of my boys. It came out when they were young and we would all jam to it in my truck.
Pausing a Tool song is a no win situation. no matter when you do it you're doing it in an important moment.
Every new tool song is going to be your favorite, until the next song.
Theyâre ALL great !!!
Yes, tube in the mouth. Itâs called a talk box. Peter Frampton and Pink Floyd both used them very well. Iâm sure many others, but those are who come to mind.
REFLECTION! DRUMS AND BASS PROMINENT. Very interesting lyrics I think you'll really like. It's long but well worth the time spent. Sorry for the caps, just wanted to catch your eye đ
Its called a Talk Box and yes that is what you heard. It is not really hooked up to the microphone, but that is where the tube is for ease of use. It is hooked up to the guitar and it changes the sound based off your mouth position. Closed mouth gives it a more dark or compressed sound, and open mouth gets it brighter.
I love that you pivk your pauses the right way and dont cut out the song.. gawww
My favourite Tool song is the one that I am listening to.
Right in Two, please. I think you'd dig it.
I Love Your Reviews!!! I think You're doing a great job dissecting the meaning and the music. My 2 favorite bands are TOOL and Chevelle. I appreciate you listening and sharing your thoughts!!! I think your reviews are Great. Don't Stop...
imho, You should check out The "Triad" songs in 1 review. I would think after that You could go down MJK's Mother's rabbit hole.
Y O U A R E N O T A L O N E
Still here watching!
i loved your reactions all the way! great watch :D
KEEP IT COMING! Always here for your TOOL reactions!
This song is apparently a love song of sorts from Maynard to his son.
One of my favs, love your reaction to this song, greatings from MĂ©xico.
Yo i love your personality. You rock!
Adam went and hung out with Joe Walsh and that's why the box sound is so cool!!
Yes. It was a microphone tube sound machine, if you want to be technical. Or a talkbox, if you dig slang.
We had a cat when I was a kid that I named Jambi. He fought raccoons and once he ate a tray of biscuits off the stove.
Now thatâs bad ass!! Lol. Iâm definitely a cat dude!
Great song stay on the journey!
You got it! Voice box Adam Jones used.
It's so cool you made the connection! The song may not be about Jambi....but it IS named after him. Mekka-lekka-hi Mekka-hiney-ho!!
Really enjoying your channel. The Slipknot and Tool reaction videos are great! You are so genuine and its really fun to watch you go on this journey. Tool is such an outstanding band, such amazing artists that have mastered their craft.
I really think you would enjoy "Jimmy" and "PushIt" and hope those two can make your list. And when you get around to the MASTERPIECE that is the Fear Inoculum album, please do "Invincible". Lyrically and musically brilliant! Coming to terms that you are in the twilight of your career (and life), but yet still not giving up while staying relevant. Plus the transitions are insane and Maynard's vocals and tone is the best it gets!
Give a listen to, Wings for Marie, a personal and epic song...
Favorite Tool song = Last song you listened to (or watched someone react to)
Adam Jones plays his solo through a talk box. It amplifies the guitar sound into a tube that lets the guitarist use the shape of their mouth to contour the guitar sound into vocal sounds. usually no vocal chords are used only the guitar sound that is fed back into a microphone. The first commercial talk boxes were made by Bob Heil. The first one he made was for Joe Walsh and used in the song Rocky Mountain Way then is was made famous by Peter Frampton on the song Do You Feel Like We Do
The live version (Salival Album) of PUSHIT will be your favorite FOREVER, it has smooth Maynard as well as angry Maynard. You will love it guaranteed
YES!!! This is hands down my favorite tool song just love the talk box guitar solo!
Besides listening to," Wings for Marie" Pt1 and Pt2, it's time to check out "Invincible" from the new TOOL cd, "Fear Inoculum".... thanks in advance.... again.
You did a great job on this one.. â€
I knew that bass slide was going to get you!
Jambi was the genie in Peeweeâs Playhouse back in the late 80âs early 90âs btw
also the Mecka lecka hiney mecka lecka hiney ho...is the riff....i just realized that.l
Hence the title. And the gif I stuck in there before the song started. ;)
Tool canât make a bad song itâs why their albums take so long cause they make sure itâs worthy of their albums
Although, IMO, there are no BAD Tool albumsâŠ. 10,000 Days is the album with the songs that reach out to me in a different way. Listening to this album from start to finish, in one session, always leaves me emotionally charged. So far, this is my favorite Tool reaction from you. I can tell, youâre enjoying them.đđ€
First time I have ever seen anyone use the, "talk box", was John Kay from Steppenwolf, back in the late 60's, early 70's.
Every Tool fan asks the question: "What's your favorite Tool song?" Well, the RIGHT answer is "Whichever one I'm listening to right now." It's all amazing. Obviously this band took a LOT of time to compose every one of these. Way more math, talent, mixing and thought went into every Tool song than the last 10 years of pop music combined. This is about as top shelf as music gets, imo.
And you are someone that actually gets it, I'm glad there are millions of Tool army that understand. It makes my heart warm. As good as it gets, and the lyrics, and his vocals, that's what it absolutely puts it above a else.
you should love it, it's a love song. and yes you are hearing the Talk-Box made famous by Peter Frampton
I love your angry Maynard scale.
Every album is FANTASTIC!
Do 4° next, kick it old school
This also proves that the best tool song is the last one
Jesus... They used to open with that... Perfect.
I personally enjoy your reactions. They are my guilty pleasure.
Love your reaction you get and it will take more tool to realize it
I'm sure all the Maynards love you as well.
This is driving too fast down the Four Lane , windows down , stereo pegged in the red , Tool music ! This is the hardest charging Tool song , IMHO .
I heard him say DAMN MY EYES.... That also is a saying.. right?
Did she say "angry" Maynard note was born with the Grudge đ... think she is ready for Third eye, go on Lauren for live version and see how Maynard holds that note you are crying for! đ€
My video for The Grudge is when I started using the term Angry Maynard. Not when the note itself was born. :)
No, I'm wrong. LOL The Grudge video is when I started using "The Maynard" not Angry Maynard. :D
Yes! Third Eye, my personal favorite "epic" of theirs, the Chorus just fucking brings it.
Tool has the best drops.
You're kinda right Lauren. It's called a talk box.
Very passionate Maynard.
We are here with you
You're correct about Adam using a 'talk box' ("straw attached to a microphone") effect on the guitar; well spotted :)
Just wait there is: Push it. ... That song is gotta to be Jambis dizygodic twin.
So what your saying is you love all the tool and all the Maynard :-)
This song definitely finishes with angry Maynard.
Just wait.... you will be overwhelmed.
Its kind of like wishing on a genie like Jambi the genie. The sound is tricky kind of like having a trick wish
Oh and try Tool's Pushit Salival version if you want to hear them live
EVERY TOOL song is excellent and exceptional, my dear đđđđâŁïž
Maynardâs badass. đ€đœgreat reactions
Your favorite Tool song is the one you're listening to at the time. đđ€
Spiral Out, Lauren
Tool army, checking in
