Same thing in his/their other videos.
Especially "my mother told me" and "the Dragonborn Come" . "Hoist The colours" I know that high note is coming so the reactions to that is funny as well.
Have fun in the rabbit hole.

One of my favourite pastimes is watching people hear Geoff sing for the first time. Unfailingly, they say "Wow, that's low" and I laugh to myself and say "Oh no, this is quite normal" and then they hear him sing from what seems to be the core of the earth and it NEVER disappoints. Also, "a mixture of Fergie and Jesus" was not a description of him I have ever heard or even considered before and it absolutely sent me. Thank you for that! You should definitely watch some of Geoff's solo work on his own channel, I think you'd get a kick out of Misty Mountains in particular.
Voiceplay are fantastic and always put on an incredible show, so you really can't go wrong with any of their videos. I suspect you might like their cover of "The Dragonborn Comes" from Skyrim and definitely "Hoist the Colours" as well, but really everything they do is amazing. Beware the rabbit holes and have fun!

Geoff (Jeff) was lead here. The lead switches depending on the song. Often the parts are equally divided. Santa is just a guest - and I think Geoff's BIL. Geoff has a near 5 octave range and yes, his belts cover 3-4 octaves.
VP has increased its quality, arrangements and performance, exponentially. Listen to their Warriors where the short bald guy (Eli - pronounced ELLY), he once fronted a rock band, had the lead there. He often does when Geoff does the arrangements.
Beatboxer Layne used to be the VP bari-tenor, but their beatboxer went on to acting (he returned for their HALO theme tribute) and Layne took that over. He and Geoff have been friends since childhood and are the last 2 remaining original members of VP. Being old friends means Layne, the other main arranger with Geoff, often trys to crack Geoff up while filming.
Earl (the tall guy with the beard) - the first tenor, left last year as did baritone J None. Earl's reason's were personal, but J None joined the US Navy and even came back to take the lead in their Halloween song, Friends on the Otherside. Cesar de la Rosa replaced J None, but they have left the high tenor slot open. I was offered to several singers, but all had conflicts and prior commitments. That actually seems to have turned out well as they take on guests based on the song needs rather than tailor arrangements to member voices.
Of the big 3 a capella groups, Home Free, Pentatonix, and VoicePlay, they are considered 'the theater nerds' for their acting, sets, make-up, and general feel of doing a mini play. Friends on the Otherside is a great example. They blew away reactors with their Hoist the Colours (amazing) and just seem to keep getting better. They even tackle Aerosmith (Dream On) and manage a very memorable performance. All of the big 3 are amazing. I happen to like the panache of VP best.

Santa is definitely played by Geoff's brother-in-law Pasquale. He's a professional magician so he's comfortable performing. I thought that was his voice in the recording. When VP has performed this live, they play parts of the video on the screen behind them so they can react to Santa's lines.

Geoff describes himself as a baritone with a bass range. He isn’t really the main singer but he is for this song, and they do put emphasis on his parts a lot. They have so many amazing pieces, Warriors, Dream On, Little Mermaid Medley, We don’t talk about Bruno, and so many more. Every song is impressive. Geoff also does solo work on his only channel. I'm guessing Geoff's most recent release, his arrangement of Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine" will satisfy some of your curiosity about his voice. You get some gorgeous, buttery high baritone, some high tenor in his "backup group" (him) and a few low drops that'll rattle your insides. But it's going to take listening to a few songs before you begin to get a grip on what Geoff can do vocally. In other VoicePlay songs, listen for him singing the backup part of a 5 string bass guitar. He has the full range, and he sounds like a guitar, not a human.

Welcome to the rabbit hole! One of the greatest talents VP has is fitting their arrangements to their voices, not forcing it. Welcome to the unnatural phenomenon that is Geoff Castellucci. I often call Geoff the gateway drug to VoicePlay, because his talents are so obvious you can't help but be amazed, and he tends to be what draws people into the group as a whole. However, once you start listening to VoicePlay you'll quickly realize that they are *all* similarly gifted- Eli, the bald tenor, can actually cover Geoff's basslines if he is soloing during a live performance. Layne, the beatboxer, has a range that is even broader than Geoff's 5 octaves. Oh, and did anyone mention that the videos are all completely put together by the VoicePlay members themselves? They do all the sourcing of sites, costumes, props etc, they do basic camera work (although they sometimes hire steadycam operators), video editing, lighting (that's Eli's specialty) and effects. Layne and Geoff also split the work of arranging 99% of VoicePlay's vocal arrangements. These guys are the full creative package.
Geoff utilizes a technique called subharmonics to achieve his super-deep notes, although his chest range extends to at least an F1, I think, possibly a little lower. With subharmonics he has been able to go as low as a B0- that's two white keys from the low end of the piano keyboard.

So now Geoff is the "long hair". Re SingOff competition; VoicePlay competed against Home Free that final season, which Home Free won. (Pentatonix won the year before.) The judges loved Tim's bass performances, but Geoff was underutilized (IMO) until more recently. Now Geoff's breakout parts get plenty of attention, but he's not generally the lead singer. The lineup has changed in the last two years. Geoff, the bass, Layne, the beatboxer, and Earl, the bearded tenor were founding members of the group in 1997. The name of the group was changed about 10 years ago. Earl left two years ago for personal reasons, the black baritone left last year to join the US Navy and sing with them. Cesar de la Rosa joined them last year. One slot still open, they use featured singers to fill in. They've done that even before the changes in personnel.
This piece, because of it's nature, showcases Geoff, but that is not standard.
The most recent is Dream On, (Aerosmith), before that We Don't Talk About Bruno. You can get a feel for their ability to sing any genre with those and Hoist the Colours or The Dragonborn Comes (Skyrim). And they have another one coming in a few days.

acapella groups dont really have lead singers. usually the baritone, tenor1 or tenor2 do most of the lead parts, but the bass also often gets lead parts. it's a mix of what fits the song best and trying to get everyone a moment to shine. in this particular song Geoff has the lead through most of the song (which is quite rare), but the song required it.

VoicePlay was up in New Jersey with Chicago in November. Eli (bald tenor) and his wife had a new baby (can be seen in the audience at 2 weeks). Geoff and family had covid in Sept. VoicePlay did Jingle Bell Rock (Mean Girls), and Geoff did Blue Christmas (Elvis).

    Send1t-
So in the A Cappella world, there is The Trifecta of A Cappella:
Pentatonix-Won The Sing Off Season 3-technically PERFECT- The Cheerleaders and Jocks! Absolutely adored by everyone and rightly so-they paved the way
Home Free-Won The Sing Off Season 4-The only A Cappella group claiming their “Country” but slay any genre. These are the guys you want to hang out with in The Back 80 having a Kegger and a bonfire!!!
Voice play-Competed on The Sing Off Season 4…obviously didn’t win since Home Free did. Have collaborated with Home Free several times. They are The Theater Kids. Can hold there own against the 2 above groups, but VERY under-rated!!!! The main guys have been together longer than Home Free has been and longer than most of Pentatonix has been alive.
Never ask us to compare or pick a favorite! They are like our children and we CAN’T and WON’T!!!

Geoff Castellucci (Jeff) is the Bass and has a 5 octave range.
You picked an epic song for your 1st VP experience. They all share the lead but most of the arrangements are made by Geoff and Layne (beatboxer).
Most people focus on Geoff, I'm guilty of it too, but each member is exceptionally talented. You need to check out Carry On My Wayward Son, Halo theme song, My Mother Told Me, Queen in 5 Minutes...

Just as in most acapella groups, the best ones, at least, there really IS no "lead singer", per se. Who leads a song depends on who's voice best fits the lead part, and there are times the lead switches between several people in any given arrangement.
The bass singer of this group, Geoff Casetllucci, has a 5 octave range to his voice, with a few scattered notes thrown in from a 6th, of course. That's the reason he's able to cover the heights as well as the depths. The technique he uses at the end of this cover is called Subharmonics. It involves a lot of relaxation, a ton of air movement, and a lot of production to get it to sound that forceful. It's a technique that Geoff learned from Tim Foust, actually, of Home Free.
You asked weather or not Voice Play was on the Sing Off as well, and the answer is yes, twice. Once on the season Home Free won. Which is how they met and befriended Tim Foust.
As you'll no doubt discover if you continue reacting to Voice Play their membership has changed over time. They've lost some members due to prior commitments, family concerns, or other opportunities coming up. However, they've always been able to find super talented people to step in when a member has gone elsewhere. Voice Play also, as you'll see, have a number of very talented friends who come in and help them with songs from time to time, the most notable of which, I would say, is Mrs. Rachel Potter.
One last thing before I end comment on this very fine, fun reaction: In order to round out the trifecta of the acapella world you should also check out Pentatonix if you haven't already. Pick any song, either cover, medley, or original of theirs and you can't go wrong.

Voiceplay was on the same season of The Sing Off as Home Free, but Home Free was unique with their country twist on A Cappella along with more experienced members and Home Free won that season. Voiceplay has had some lineup changes, but has gained a lot of experience as well. Their more recent stuff really shines, but their older stuff is great too. They're currently down one fulltime member but have some amazing guests filling out the sound in various videos. There was a tour after the season of The Sing Off and all these groups know each other - Avi Kaplan (Pentatonix) was a guest singer in Home Free's cover of "Ring of Fire" - Geoff Castellucci (Voiceplay) did the bulk of the arranging for Home Free's collaboration with The Oak Ridge Boys covering "Elvira" - Tim Foust (Home Free) does a brief (but hilarious) appearance in Voiceplay's fundraising song "Just Sing" - Rob Lundquist (Home Free) is featured in Voiceplay's "ACA Top 10 | Movie Themes" mashup. Have fun.

Voiceplay was on The Sing-Off the same season that Home Free won it. VP finished 5th or 6th. Back then, they had a female lead singer in addition to the five guys.
The personnel in this vid is their standard 2017 thru 2020 lineup:
Earl Elkins Jr., high tenor. [Earl left the group in 2020 and his slot is still open. They're currently making vids with various guest artists.]
    Eli Jacobson, second tenor.
JNone [Jesse Nunn III], baritone. [JNone left the group in 2021 and was replaced by Cesar De La Rosa.]
Layne Stein, vocal percussion and backup baritone/bass.
    Geoff Castellucci, low bass.
At the end of this song, Geoff drops 3 and 7/12 octaves in 10 seconds, down to an E1. He has some vids where he hits a B0 (the second lowest white key on a standard piano). On his personal YT channel, there are vids where he talks about techniques to sing low. He uses a mixture of growl (which he learned from his friend Tim Foust of Home Free), vocal fry, and subharmonics. He also has several cover songs on that channel where he multitracks and sings all the parts. He just started doing that in response to COVID.
