It's already being established that the friendship is very therapeutic for them both. Dan is a link to the man Abby wishes she hadn't taken for granted and Abby helping Dan to remember the man Harry made of him, the man his wife could fall in love with and ultimately marry.
That's a wonderful way of looking at this series. Thank you.
He still has that charisma and sarcasm like back in the day
His energy has changed; he isn't as physically fast and loud as he was in the original series but that's also a reflection of the amount of time that has passed, John's actual age and the evolution of the character. He is doing a magnificent job (as expected).
An older, still sarcastic Dan Fielding, and brother, do we love him.
Dan is the best loving character ever. Gotta love John Larroquette!
Never has a good actor made a despicable character so loveable. Well, him and Jeffery Combs. Brunt, FCA should have had his own TV show.
I'm currently re-watching the original. The new show has been a little uneven, but so was the original in its 1st season. I will continue to watch.
The fact that Dan has evolved instead of just being the same guy in an older body is the best part.
The first season of the original Night Court in my opinion was really good and I didn’t watch the show originally or was born just yet but this show just doesn’t have humor. Yes it’s good that Dan Fielding has evolved from how he was 30+ years ago but it doesn’t even seem like the same person humor wise.

I loved Dan Fielding in the original series and I love this older version of the character.
This Dan Fielding really speaks to my soul. “No energy is the dream.” I felt that.
John Larroquette is one of my favorite comedic actors
I'm not one of those guys who always says the older stuff is better but in this case, the best of Dan Fielding happened about 30 years ago. I am hopeful though because he's still got it.

I really love the new show , i used to watch the old show with my father and now i get to do the same with my son , i would love to see some of the surviving cast make a cameo or be on the show i miss Bull the most , congrats on the newboot.
John & Melissa seem to have a pretty chemistry.
I grew up watching the old one with my Dad, too. He passed when I was 15, but I have super fond memories of watching it with him.
Unfortunately, most of the original cast have passed. The only main cast member that is still alive besides Dan, is Bull. I would absolutely love for him to at least make a cameo, but he made a comment to TMZ a couple years back saying and I quote "I'd run the other way" when asked about his interest in being on the show. (This was before the show aired and I believe was just in the beginning stages of being greenlit)
I also heard rumors that he didn't have the greatest time on the original set, due to falling outs with other cast members/producers. That, I'm not sure how much, if any, is true.. but could maybe be the reasoning behind his reluctance.
Anyways, sorry for the long rant. Your comment just really resonated with me.
@@jcar12321 Marsha Warfield (Roz) is still alive too, but she hasn't said anything about coming back as far as i know. she's still acting, so maybe (hopefully) she'll get a guest spot at some point...? 🤷♀
I don't love the new show, but as always John Larroquette is the best part of it.
Not a full cast member, I know, but William Utay (Phil) is still alive. I know the character died, but I’d love it if they could give him a part. John Aston (Buddy) too.

This feels like he's Jenkins again from the librarians only with a sense of humor, teaching and helping others to get stuff like food or just to be left alone lol
I watched the librarian once or twice for him and maybe Jenkins and fielding were brothers separated at birth .that's funny 🤣
☺️ a friend of mine's headcannon is that Jenkins IS Dan. He was undercover for The Library. Dan's womanizing was an act (can't remember how much we saw in the original or how much was just reputation). Now for the new series, Jenkins has to go back to pretending to be Dan.
She says it's the armadillo that's the artifact. It brings out the weird and bizarre in people and has re-surfaced with Abby becoming judge.
Dan does have quite a bit of the Jenkins vibe. Probably one of the reasons I love both

OH! They actually DID bring back that show? Fantastic! Last I'd heard, the old stars were sceptical a remake would happen, especially after Harry Anderson ("Judge Stone") died.

One thing I remember about the original, it held the record for the tallest male cast in TV history. Seeing Dan and Abby standing next to each other only emphasizes this.
They should of showed both versions of his role on Night Court

I’m glad that John Laroquette came back and I believe the only other surviving cast member is Bull and I would love to see him come back to the show
Roz is still alive and said she wasn't asked to be in the reboot, Bull declined to reprise his role.

Reinhold Daniel Fielding Elmore is a gem in the original. The older one is the opposite.

I think Dan in a way is serving as a mentor for Abbie. She’s just starting out and I think Harry would appreciate his daughter having that help in the courtroom
They need to show flashbacks of Dan, and Vincent "Vinnie the Pooh" Daniels, Dan's diminutive boss.

I see him as the white George lopez from lopez vs lopez ..... calls it how he's sees it. I love it. That's gangsta, real life ain't sugar coated. I hope lopez and fielding have 10 plus seasons. I never get tired of hearing them. I used to watch night court with my mom and younger sister when I was about 7. I'm 36.

Is this show back or was this just a special? If it's back, I think it's cool that they continue off the original story instead of an actual reboot.

Problem is that THIS is not Dan Fielding. Not the one we all know and love. The original won't ever be topped by a second rate reboot.

Richard Moll doesn't care for the show, as it effectively typecasted him as a bald headed dim witted goody-goody, killing his more lucrative career as a full head of hair villain type that he did before Night Court.
I haven't seen the show yet, as I'm not fond of the recent flood of classic TV shows being rebooted....

John Larroquette is this show's only saving grace.
Dan's evolution for this iteration of the show is very well done. And through the first season, Abby becomes more well-rounded. But I have to express disappointment in the other three characters. They seem two-dimensional, and their jokes are just formulaic "set-up/payoff" gags. They lack humanity and depth, and their stories need to be explored in order to make the show worth watching. I would also like to see a return to the original's idea of sometimes having a parade of quirky defendants throughout the show. And a return of Bob and June Wheeler would be very welcome.

Interesting. Now, IF only there be a "Best of Dan Fielding" segment from the ORIGINAL "Night Court" TV sitcom of the late 1980's and early 1990's on CZcams as a way of remembering what "Dan Fielding" used to be. Now THAT would be interesting indeed.
That best of reel would probably be 5 hours long though :)
