Surrey is the West Coast equivalent of Brampton, monolithic Punjabi communities that engage in Vote Blocking to ensure Punjabi rights in Parliament, the Sikhs have figured out how to game democracy to the benefit of themselves, and to the detriment of Canadians, (ie) Harjit Sajjan taking orders from the World Sikh Org and putting Afghan Sikhs in front of Canadians

Stifling political correctness will not solve our legitimate problems. Sometimes the truth is inconvenient but how can we solve legitimate issues if we don’t talk honestly about them. There is a serious crime problem in the Indian community with gangs etc. My Indian friends are first to point this out.

It's terrible that people who are trying to bring their spouse or family sponsorship can't get results for up to 3 or 4 years, but students and refugees are hop, skipping and jumping inside. Family have homes waiting for them to live in, while students and refugees don't. Nothing makes sense.

@@eyesuckle Immigration is entirely relevant to the topic of life in Surrey BC. The fertility rate of Canadian-born women is below replacement levels, meaning that the population would drop without some immigration. Unfortunately, the Federal government rejects the idea of population stability in favour of mass immigration leading to high population growth. Surrey is a victim of those policies.

However now the area is getting way to over populated and with most people from other countries who can barley speak English and often act rude and don't seem to have much respect for any of the rules ...Traffic is a nightmare all over the city and like you mentioned good luck if you need to go to the hospital ..

I realized that even in the GVR and outskirts the idea of buying a house is absolutely a delusional dream come untrue. I believe I will never afford this fool's dream because although I work full time, I have been reduced from middle class to lower class working poor. The only place I am going to be able to buy a house is somewhere in Russia, perhaps the outskirts of Moscow, maybe Siberia as I have seen some houses there as cheap as 5 grand, on a minimal scale and if I want a few more perks maybe 20 to 30 grand to splurge. When I lived in Surrey in the 1990s, I worked for the school district in charge of keeping the classroom electronics and school computers operating. One year we opened 4 new high schools and 6 new elementary schools. They all opened with portables. I only had 5 technicians for over 15,000 desktops. That was when Surrey had about 300,000 people. I moved to Los Angeles in 2001 because by then I was on my phone half the telling people they has to wait for their scheduled tech visit to get emergencies dealt with. Elementary schools for a half day visit every three weeks. High schools a full day every 3 weeks.
I came back to Burnaby in 2010 and now live in Maple Ridge. When I have gone back to the Newton area in Surrey, I am amazed at how congested it is now. Both houses in Newton where I lived have both been replaced by mega houses with 1-2 lower level suites in them. And it seems that most all houses in the old neighbourhood have a laneway house built in the back yard. With the streets packed with parked cars.
Even Vancouver is in rush hour mode all day. It takes over an hour to get onto highway 1 at the Lonsdale on ramp in North Van and get to Hastings street across the Ironworkers Bridge. The wholes lower mainland is a victim of its own success. Basically, greater Vancouver is full people. What it was 50 years ago that was so attractive. is now a sea of slow moving cars.

It's a super nice place. My desire is to move to Squamish, but I don't have money. My in-laws live in West End, (Downtown) but it's impossible to afford. Surrey is good. I can walk to Green Timbers or get SkyTrain and go to Downtown in 35-38 minutes.. No reason's to complain.. I bought a brand new car with the diff of rent in different areas..

Living near a Skytrain station is, in my humble opinion, the one thing that would make life in Surrey tolerable. You get the benefit of reasonable rent, combined with quick and cheap access to Vancouver, New Westminster and Burnaby. This strategy works well for my brother, who moved there about 20 years ago. It works for him, a renter with low income.

What I like most about Surrey is that I don’t need to spend a lot of money travelling to New Delhi or Mumbai. I find here everything about India like good food, all the religious paraphernalia, weird clothing and Bollywood music and movies. Candies and Indian desserts are the best. I like the parades with thousands of gods specially the one with hundred arms and legs and guys seated in yoga positions like a mummy. It’s very fun Surrey. I think Surrey is the first Sikh Kingdom in the world.

I have lived in surrey since 1968 and as soon as I can I am leaving the roads are terrible the cultural over taking from the Punjabi community is extreme. All the beautiful open space we once had has been plowed underfed. Health Care terrible, the housing market and development t market is owned by the Punjabi Community as is the Surrey City council and has been since the early 80’s, run run for your lives. The police are going to become a municipality run organization which means the corruption will be worse than it ever was under the RCMP, with it, the municipal police being run mostly by the Sikh and Muslim Communities, very different values, Surrey could have been an example of great planning and livability had the municipal councils
Back in the early 80’s cares more about the standard of living than lining their pockets with under the table money paid for by the then Sikh developers, who by the way own all of the farm land now in surrey.

Lived in Surrey for 25 years, (central area, cedar hills aka Whalley) wasn't exactly my city of choice, it was close to work, without having to cross bridges.
vehicle traffic is insane! One big freeway. Snow omg, nordel hill and river road
    Transit is okish sort of.
Best Doctor's at SMH and Clinic, they are burned out, over worked still give you 101% the longest waited was 14 hours due to medical emergency in the hospital all doctors left the emergency department to tend to a patient. Shortest 30 minutes.
Beautiful whalley parks a lot of baseball diamonds, near BC Lions trainning park.
Green timbers park over populated not as enjoyable.
Surrey place mall aka Central city community mall, requires a facelift, it has a family oriented feel
Bike riding in Surrey not pleasurable experience. It is not Vancouver, no fraser river path ways or 'seawall'
Brownsville park under skytrain bridge is beautiful though sketchy area, good fishing. Good fishing along the fraser river dock.
Some people are friendly, ethnic community are disrespectful, not all.
Fireworks(bombs) weeks before halloween lit off until the wee hours of the morning and weeks after too, anything goes in Surrey!
People dump their garbage in back alleys, open fields... its a dirty city.
The cost of gasoline can be more expensive.
Best Whitespot at Guildford, staff very friendly, in a laid back family oriented atmosphere, good conversation. Ask for Nick
Construction of new condo towers its where you're going to live, forcing the homeless into the open, i wonder where the homeless are going to be forced to move to. Langley?
Drug users that include all people including your neighbor !
All about Pho on 104 and king George is good.
This is central 108th to 96 ave, 152 street to king George blvd
Best festivals fusion festival! At holland park. And Fvded in the park! water fountains on tarmac at City hall during summer
Easy to get to new Westminster by skytrain, best fireworks display.
Never a dull moment in Surrey, once had a dozen cop cars in my neighbourhood looking for someone, this guy runs through my back garden, cops jumping my fence chasing this guy. Hit and runs, murders, tesla drivers running red lights, helicopter out searching
Walking score 0, krispy kreme 70 and Scott road, that's delta.
Best Vans shoe store Guildford Mall Best service, staff great to talk with and helpful in a non aggressive way, greatest manager ever!
If you're into Vasaki 88th ave and 128th street and 700,000 people.

Dude you couldn’t be so far from the truth it’s no where as bad as you claim except for maybe the traffic due to construction. School And Drs walking clinics is same issue in all cities but surrey is still in far better shape.
Surrey Memorial Hospital and the surrounding medical district that includes the 3 towers across from hospital containing all the additional specialists, largest outpatient care with Jim Patti on building, a Surrey heart Centre, and a full blown Heart clinic with a team of specialists that track patients hands on for a year or more for treatment above and beyond the separate specialists. The Surrey Hospital is largest hospital and medical district in Metro Vancouver next to Vancouver General Hospital it is not just Surrey’s Hospital but also Fraser Valley’s head hospital with all the services located around it. I have witnessed them accept emergency heart patients that was driven from signing in at emergency to a bed in intensive care wired up to monitors with in 15mins and a internal medicine dr monitoring and prescribing tests, bloodwork, scans within a few minutes of that. The hospital also has the largest Cancer centres in BC next to VGH but better… if you lived in RIchmond they would send you to see specialist at VGH and then get certain scans etc in downtown Vancouver/Chinatown or to St.Paul’s… or other hard to go to places with parking and traffic issues. But with Surrey everything is there with the hospital and its medical district in the same area. They have additional outpatient specialists outside that district through the city and Fraser valley as well. There is another hospital at the south west corner which is called Whiterock which might as well be Surrey since surrey mainly services it but it’s own city Whiterock and that peace arch hospital sits on the WR side of the border for WR/Surrey… the new hospital in south surrey//Cloverdale is intended be major hospital, much larger that Rmd or. Burnaby but to support peace arch and surrey memorial to help rest South Surrey/Whiterock and bring a major state of the art Cancer Centre there’s well to help that side of the region including Langley etc… the Cloverdale hospital with also have a medical district of outpatient hospital and specialist care services…
So far I’ve only mentioned the hospital medical care not the endless clinics and Lifelabs centres and haven’t touch on schools, roads nor crime, transit, and for now 2 police forces Surrey RCMP & new Surrey Police. RCMP HQ. for BC in Surrey as well. I can go on forever. Surrey vs any other city in BC is doing very well while it still has deal with the same challenges the other cities do as well but it handles them better… it still holds largest Fireworks for Canada Day in western Canada, handles multiple border crossings, has the largest parades in BC while stated to be the largest city in BC and fast growing in North America… heavy mix cultures in Surrey with white and Indian being largest so every type of cuisines available.
Now if you don’t like it in Surrey then please please leave we could use the space for someone that appreciates the area and its growth and good luck at the other cities but don’t come back when you see what you lost…

    1) healthcare is trash everywhere in bc. Surrey might be worse but the bar is already in hell soo yeah.
    2) infrastructure in surrey seems to depend largely on what part you are in. Even the busier bits are more workable than many other cities during rush hour. Its leaving the city that's painful. Plus schools anywhere outside of Vancouver are all over serviced as far as I can tell. Vancouver is unlivably expensive, so everyone is spilling into the greater vancouver area
    3) its reputation may hold in some areas, but again, it all depends on the area.
All that to say, bc is just not a great place to live right now, but it can be more or less livable based on the specific area within any given area. Getting out of the province is the best decision ive made in a while

I'm Indigenous and lived on the west coast years ago and now moved back. I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE SURREY NOW!!! Racism is quite thick. I faced renovictions and oh yeah my landlord gave us an eviction notice because my child had the audacity to play in the backyard and made some noise. That became I had to turn all our lights off at 9pm while his unit had all his lights on and enough outside lights to look like daylight. They stopped us from using the laundry because I blocked the door to it with the fridge because I caught the landlord snooping around my house ( we had no lock on it and he wouldn't provide one. So we had some debates and then he got the eviction. Found out he couldn't because of his infractions and then said his cousin was moving in and when that didn't work it became his mother and Grandmother. In other words when he found out I was Indigenous ( White presenting Metis ) I was no longer good enough. Even paid 6 months rent up front. By the way , I had to dive in a ditch because of a drive by. You must live in one of the better areas. That being said it is still a very good area for natural parks and greenery. Just be careful who you deal with.

Sounds like one of our landlords there in Surrey. He asked for six months to be payed in advance for a space on his driveway for our RV and had the stupidest rules to make it look like we didn’t live there. Impossible for my roommates who were elderly. He ripped us off constantly threatening to evict us only to say we couldn’t move until the six or three months were done when we had had enough and went to a real RV park by chance. Can’t even rent pads. Huge waiting lists, shortages and the rent for pads and spaces like his has doubled since. That was about two Years ago

I'm a Christian from India and let me tell you that most of India doesn't live like how these folks do, atleast the ones who have migrated from big cities in India. I have come here to assimilate into the culture, complete my masters and probably find a job that comes under a skill that is hard to find amongst Canadians. In that way neither am I taking jobs from fellow Canadians or doing some shitty job for a PR. And if none of that works, I'm happy to head back home and do what I was doing which was working in the corporate back in India.
The folks you find in Brampton and Surrey are the ones who come mostly from Punjab and not all are bad, let me tell you that but the issue is Punjab is mostly farmland and most of these folks haven't even seen a major city in India, so when you suddenly pick someone from there and have them land in Canada, its a culture that they don't understand, so they force themselves to mix only amongst themselves (Punjabis). Also these folks don't speak the official language which is Hindi or English, they mostly just stick to their own which is Punjabi, so they find it hard to get along with the rest of the states. Now the current government has let so many of them come into Canada that its hard for them to manage any of these excess immigration.
Honestly the shock that one has to deal with in a new land is understandable from a Punjabis POV but this isn't good for Canada or Canadians because this isn't the culture one follows here and as a Christian Indian I understand this well.
I honestly hope that Pierre puts an end to this unskilled immigration coming in from Punjab. Its not good for Canada as the country isn't prepared for such large unskilled migrants to come in who can't understand the culture or have any value add to the society. A good example of whats actually good immigration is to see how America gets the cream of students and immigrants from India. Doctors, engineers, nurses, lawyers, teachers, data scientist you name it all mostly from the west and southern states of India who pay their taxes and have helped America grow.
Also here's one interesting fact, especially for Canadians who think all of these folks are Indians, ask any of them in Brampton or Surrey whether they are Indians or Punjabis and I bet you they will first say they are Punjabis, that shows how much they hate India themselves. No patriotic Indian will ever deny they are an Indian. Hence the term Khalistan has emerged so much.
A humble request to my fellow Canadians as a Christian who respects the values of this country, do your research on the situation in Brampton and Surrey, you'll understand what's actually going on there.
