This, in my opinion, is the best video on CZcams about why artists and crafters do what they do. It was so life affirming for me and how I felt when I found this art/craft. It brought together all my life experiences in a small package that I can share with others. Thank you, Natasha, for putting this into words for us.

I don't think there is a single word I can add to your video. You are so spot on and you have the gift of making connections with people. You are a genuine and honest person who loves to share her passion. I just discovered journal making and it has made a huge difference in my life. It has helped fill the void that was left after my husband died, and really made me discover something I love. I can't thank you enough for giving me some of your passion. Now what will I do with all the beads and pottery making supplies I have?🤣

Despite this being two years old, I only discovered it today (2/9/22) and I have to tell you how incredibly moved I was by the entire video. I started crying when you told the story of the calendar and I had to pause to go get tissues. I sobbed over the diary that your mother gave you - what she wrote and mostly what you wrote at the end about your fear and your wish for the war to end. And I went to pieces over the doll your mother made and how she became your friend because you were lonely.
I cannot find the words to tell you how deeply you effected me and how your videos have done the same for me that your early mentors did for you. You inspire me with your art, your inner beauty and your “gift” for this beautiful world of paper and all the treasured books that you create with it!
Finally, Thank-You for sharing your story and how your deep passion for paper was born from a calendar that changed your world.

Natasha, By far, the best, most sincere, honest, heartfelt, and open response to the Ten Questions that I have seen!
Allowing us to get to know you by being brave enough to share your heart and soul brought tears to my eyes. More than once. It effected me deeply.
Six and a half years ago, my aging mother asked me to come home to help her. I sold my home which was in another state in the US, gave away most of my loved possessions, including my two cats because my father hated cats, and moved away from my two grown children. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. It’s a long, ugly story that lasted three years. The short version is, I had to force my father, who was angry, mean, abusive, and violent into a home. Shortly after that, two years after moving into my parent’s home, my mother committed suicide. She was found floating in a kelp bed in the ocean. My father died 11 months later. It broke me.
I have sewed and done various crafting, but never anything with paper. I accidentally found JJ about a year ago and am obsessed. It is healing like you said. How you described treasure hunting for materials is how I feel too. It is addicting, but so much fun! Haha. I have only found you recently, love you, your work, and your step lists, and now will be binge watching.
You are quite lovely, inside and out. Thank you for sharing your story. You are an inspiration.
    Your new groupie, 💖🦋😊

I can only imagine all the mixed emotions that you must be feeling about both your parents. I'm glad that you have also found some healing in this JJ world. When you say that what has happened has 'broken you' its just those puzzle pieces being scattered all around. Now you are on your healing journey putting yourself back together. You know, wherever I go to a cafe, store I treat people with a lot of respect and always have in mind, “people greet you with a smile or not at all, but only he/she know what they’re going through”. ❤️ I am 68. I had watched hours upon hours upon hours of journal crafting videos. Yours started me DOING instead of just watching. I have lost 18 important people in my life since 2017, had to relocate hundreds of miles away from my children and grandchildren, and I am becoming frail and am losing the ability to use my hands for fine functions along with my ability to see clearly. I had to find something creative to do that would center my mind again. Your calm voice and the rhythm of your hands struck something inside me at the beginning, but it was the way you explained sewing a zigzag stitch along the edge of a journal being made out of a windowed envelope, just catching one side of the paper, that turned on that light in me - I can do this! I had experience sewing - a lot - made things as complicated as wedding dresses and movie costumes. I had been to art school, won prizes. I had been to design school. But all that had gone dark. Your video, you, flipped that switch inside me back to “ON.” Thank you. My sincerest thank you.

Thank you for sharing your personal thoughts throughout your life. I am volunteer for Samaritans Purse/ Operation Christmas Child. We pack shoeboxes filled with toys and gifts for children in need around the world. It all started because of the war in Bosnia. That was the begining of my packing them and making things for them. We recently celebrated 30 years of OCC. I thought of the children who recieve these boxes while I was listning to your story. It sure helped me to see that we should do all we can to help children in all countries to find their purpose with the gifts of a simple shoe box filled with toys, toothbrush, soap and washcloth. Last year we packed almost 12 million boxes. I pray that many children like you will be inspired by something they find in one of the shoeboxes. I love watching you, you inspire me. May God's face shine on you.

Taking bits and pieces from my life and those of my loved ones, and then putting them together with snippets that others have thrown away to create something lovely is wonderful. Natasa, I’m so inspired by your story and your message, and can’t thank you enough for posting this video. I’ve felt your generous spirit coming through your tutorials, where you show so many incredibly creative ideas, and keep saying that we can use anything, and find supplies anywhere, using just our imagination. I’ve been so disconnected from art and myself for so long and watching you inspired me to try something small to reconnect. So, using an old crossword puzzle book, with a lovely wallpaper-like cover, I turned to the beginning and stuck in a magazine picture, added some tape, made some doodles, highlighted some of the puzzle, glued in a bit of a pretty card and voila! I made my first treasure page! As a child, I never thought twice about my connection to my creativity- it just flowed, but my life experiences and mental health had made that almost impossible to access. Every kind of art has felt like it would take too much time and energy than I have to give. I know I’ve not made a whole journal, but youve shown me that it’s a craft that can be as big or small as I need it to be, and it’s had the bonus of giving me good feelings even when I only have time or energy to look at it, rather than create! I’m hooked and have just created my 20th page!!! You have inspired me in a way that has changed my world, making me an “artist” again with just a change of perspective! And for that I am truly grateful. Hugs from one Natasha to another ♥️✂️🔖🖇

I'm 78 years old and it takes a lot to make me cry, but when you showed the journal your mother had given you, and talked about it, I definitely needed a tissue! I was also happy to hear you say you loved hearing people's stories. My "puzzle coming together" time was when I discovered I could help people write their life stories. I was a personal historian for many years, and always felt gratified whenever I finished a book for a client. Especially because their family was so grateful to have that written history of their loved one. You are an amazing woman with an incredible story. I'm very happy to have found your channel and I'm glad to "know" you!

Oh my, I wish so much i could meet you in person. You and one other person here on CZcams are the ones I receive notifications from. I love your simplicity and way of teaching. I grew up very poor, so everything in our home had a dual purpose. Nothing was wasted. Oprah Winfrey used have a segment on her show called "Everyone has a Story" and your story is among the very best that I've heard. It truly touched my heart. When people expose their soul to share their passion, it is a gift to all of us. I was especially touched by the precious diary given to you by your mom when you were 8. The words she wrote brought tears to my eyes and the words you wrote on the last page about the start of the war in Sarajevo was heart breaking. How special you are to share, with all of us, your knowledge and love for paper. Thank you. Ps. One of the lasting gifts you will have for your children is this video and the history it contains. God bless.

Wow, what an amazing story. I can relate to that. I was born in Armenia and in 1990's Armenia separated from Soviet Union and was under attack of Azerbaijan. We had no gas, no water, and 45 minutes of electricity a day. Water we will get ones a few weeks, we couldn't bathe properly and i had 2 small children. One 8 month old and another 2 years old. We lived like that for 3 years until finally escaping. I still have my doll that my dad bought me when I was 5 years old. I am like you, treasure all my stuff from the past and very frugal with my crafting and everything i make means a lot to me. I don't just make to make it. I think about the people and how it will make them feel. I love your channel very much. You are a great person. God Bless ❤

You are changing the world. My grandparents immigrated to the US during WW2. My grandparents saw firsthand how war tore their home country apart. All my life I heard their stories of how their lives & others were torn apart & how they survived. It wasn't until I was older that I understood why my grandmother hoarded certain things & why my grandfather understood. War, escaping to survive brings about so many levels of emotions that for my grandmother, it transcended the practicality of that Depression era of using everything and not throwing anything away. She held onto and collected certain things "just in case" and as a coping mechanism from that period in her life. When they passed I was the first one my sister asked if I wanted to keep all of the Vintage birthday cards, invitations and other things my grandmother collected and kept. I still have them. Thank you for sharing your story and your incredible challenge. It is definitely your calling.

Natasa - can I just start off by saying: you are wonderful! Before I click on a video, I usually look at the video length - and I have the attention span of an unbuttered slice of toast, so anything over 15 minutes usually turns me off. Anyway, 40 minutes. But the crafty questions. I somehow *knew* that it would be worth watching this, not least because I was curious to *see* you. I also knew because it is like you say in the video: I certainly had already connected to you through all the previous videos I have watched - I love hearing your Australian accent, I am always amazed by your generosity of sharing your knowledge, and I simply like what you do and how you do it. I was also intrigued to find out whether my hunch that you may have started your life elsewhere, was correct. (The way you write your name was the giveaway for me.) Anyway - your video was so worth watching. Your approach to crafting as more than just "passing the time creatively", really resonates with me. I absolutely loved that you went "deep" - and that you didn't cut the emotional bits from your video. It shows your strength and is deeply inspiring. Your stories from your Bosnian childhood were not just touching, but for those of us who lived through the times (albeit in other countries), you gave an insight into what life really was like during that war - and how it affected you firstly as a child *at that moment*, and then as a refugee, an immigrant and now an adult in a new home country. You gave the abstract term "Balkan war" a face and a feeling, and that is precious. So thank you for sharing it with us.
I usually dislike overly sweet and familiar compliments in public - but I think you are very special, a wonderful person. And if I was living in Australia, I would love to know you personally. Keep crafting - keep sharing. I am sure the universe will reward you.

I can see that you know about that war. You know that Sarajevo is in Bosnia (not many people do). I was quite surprised that I did become emotional during filming as I thought that I have healed this pain. But it seems like these old hurts stay with us for a long, long time, if not forever. Thank you so much for all of your support, it means the world and I am truly grateful :)

@@TreasureBooks A comment is the least I can do to show you my appreciation of you and your generosity in sharing. xxx
I distinctly remember the (news about the) war; I was a young adult in Germany at the time, had just started university, and I remember buying a t-shirt in aid of Sarajevo University - helping students still receive education during and shortly after the war.
Anyway, without opening old wounds, but I believe war experiences must be traumatic - and stay forever, even if usually hidden. I am impressed but also glad to see that you told your story with such emotion but also strength. The way you told your story, was beautiful - with those two items, and the lost dolly, too.
Anyway, I'll leave it at that before I get even more soppy. Just know that your openness is much appreciated!

I had tears in my eyes a few times in your story. Quite the ride. I’m drawn to channels making things out of nothing. When I was much younger we couldn’t afford a Christmas tree. I gathered the discarded clippings (lower branches ) of neighbors’ trees. I tied them together to make my own tree, and put in an old coffee can with rocks and water. We didn’t have internet back then for craft ideas, but from my stash I made wallets and bags and such for family presents. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my goodness! I was so moved by this video. Yours is the only “junk” journal channel that I am subscribed to, for various reasons. I’m not particularly interested in making treasure books. I find your creations quite beautiful, but I admit that I don’t really understand them. Still, I really love watching you create them, and as a person whose creative journey began with drawing and painting, I know that art at its core does not have to have an especially practical purpose. It’s beautiful. That’s enough for it to be created and to exist and to be seen. I found your channel by way of a CZcams recommendation. It was the one about making rolled paper beads. I made paper beads when I was maybe twelve or fourteen. I’m 66 now, so it was a very long time ago. I remember how lovely my little rolled beads were, and how proud I was of them. (I went straight to Etsy and bought the tool that you showed in that video. The exact one!)
I didn’t experience lack or fear on the scale that you did, but we didn’t have a lot of money, and there was significant chaos and fear in my life, as well. My mom was also creative, always sewing and knitting and making sure that I had what I needed in that way. She was a teenager in Germany during Hitler’s time, so she lived with the sort of fear and lack that you did. She wanted to be a singer, but only “Hitler Youths” had those types of opportunities, and her father wouldn’t even allow a radio in their home, because only Hitler propaganda channels were allowed. I have the stories she told me of that time, and I have literally just two of her handwritten pages of that time in her life. I treasure them with my whole being, so it touched me deeply that you have a journal of your time as a child. That really is a treasure book. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

But you have shared your sadness, turmoil, memories and happiness with all of us. I have to say that yes, it is very therapeutic. I have journaled off & on for about 2 years. Before that I put together scrapbooks for my daughters during their school years up to graduation. At their graduation parties I had their books out for all to look through. Everyone loved them. They are now 36 & 32, have never been into crafts even though I have crafted my entire life (I recently turned 60! Thats a lot of crafting) and attempting to get them interested, no go. Until recently, they picked up junk journaling on their own. I am happy to say that we recently spent the day journaling together, putting together special pages. It was amazing! We had so much fun and made so many memories that day. I have shared so many of your ideas with them.

Natasha, this was a Beautiful video. Your willingness to share so openly the journey of your life - the pain of the little 8 year old who was wise beyond her years, she knew love and value and she reached inside herself and found a way to grow and work through the turmoil of her life via words and journaling. It's as if you want to share with whomever will listen the joy of personal growth you have achieved with journaling and you do this by creating stunning, attractive artwork for us to make to add to our journals that entices us to open up the pages and write. I have been an artistic person all of my life, mainly sewing. I make clothing, things for the home and now I've turned into a quilter. During the pandemic I discovered CZcams which has put me in touch with wonderful people like yourself. We span the globe in physical location but it seems like you are just nextdoor! I live in Chelsea, Alabama USA and the date I watched your video and responded is May 23, 2023. I'm 72 years young and just recently went down the "rabbit hole" of making Treasure Books. My granddaughter loves journals so I'm making her a Treasure Book for her birthday. I hope you don't mind me adopting your name of Treasure Books which I hope the journal I make for my granddaughter will turn into for her. I have been watching your videos for several months now and I've found a couple of folks you would probably enjoy too, they are Ceri Griffith from Wales and Barb Owen from Missouri USA. Both are extremely creative with paper that we would use to chop up and make covered paperclips or something! I will continue to watch your videos and I would love to hear back from you if you're so inclined. My email is mdmonti@bellsouth.net if you want to reach out. It is probably improper to list my email but what the heck! I hope you will receive this comment even though it was made a couple of years after your video and I apologize for it's length. Happy creating! Melanie

Oh Susan, my deepest condolences. What an amazing way to honour your mama and stay close to her by making a journal with things that remind you of her. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. That way you can always hold her close to you to help heal your broken heart. Sending you big hugs.

I started following you about 2-4 yrs ago.....time flies & the memory fades, but I know it's been years. lol I come back & rewatch this one video every few months & it never ceases to touch my heart. I just want you to know that you are changes the world....one person at a time. One person does make a difference. After hearing your background story I just stand in amazement at how well you seem to have adjusted & how gentle your heart remains for others. Maybe someday when things are going kinda sideways you'll come across this & smile. Much love & respect from East Texas. 💖💖💖

I only just recently discovered your channel and am now, naturally, trying to catch up with all you've shared up to this point......
Watching this just took my respect for you to a whole new leve...
I've loved your channel since I saw the first video (only about a week ago), and immediately became a subscriber. You've turned my world upside down with treasurer books, (which I shall now refer to these after watching this). You are an absolutely beautiful soul. Your spirit shines like magic✨ Thank you for your gifts and for sharing so much of you. My heart is ready to explode right now... I can't even... I can't really put it into words right now without coming off as being a weirdo.😅🤷🏽‍♀️ But you're pretty precious, you have an amazing heart, and you have a special gift. ❤️ Thank you again. 🥰

When you said 'I 'm not changing the world', I thought 'oh, if you only knew! Just enticing people to think of waste differently and how it doesn't mean we need to just toss everything out is...world changing in the sense that it is the 'seed' the world needs right now. True, you're not the only one doing it but you do it so WELL! You're like one of the early adopters of the circular economy. You are showing people it CAN be done - beautifully! I also think the idea that we can 'create something from nothing' speaks to many as their 'ticket into' creating, especially for those who believe you 'need all the tools' or you have to 'have it all figured out'....no - ya don't!

Two years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and all that I knew changed in a instant. But one of the biggest things that changed was my ability to run and be active. So I began to search for something new to do that could bring me joy when I came across a few of your videos and it changed me. I became addicted to your videos and found something that once again made me happy in a world that didn’t make sense. I am still two yrs later watching your videos and creating great things. Thank you for sharing such a personal story with us all. It was nice to understand your story and why you are who you are ❤ 😊

This video may be from 3 years ago but I just came upon it; 6/25/23. You have such a sweet personality and I so enjoy your video workshops as they are so inspiring. You are so lucky to have a diary from your mother. This is truly a treasure book. My mother passed away 12 years ago and I still miss her. I have the cards she gave me for most of my adult life and I surly treasure those. My brother passed away 2 years ago. I miss those phone chats we had 3 or 4 times a week. I have a birthday card we mailed back and forth for 30 years. We were only 11 months apart and we were extremely close growing up throughout our college days through adulthood. At any rate I continue to get it out on each of our birthdays to read all the notes we made on it. I even have it taped together and all the sticky notes. When he retired I made him a scrap book of our infancy through his retirement. That is my way through scrapbooking onto paper crafting. Thank you again for all your wonderful videos.

Oh.my.word. That was so dear and precious. Thank you so much for opening up and sharing your story - what a blessing you are! I agree - making "treasure books" is a calling. I started making them last year. I started with one about Colonial Williamsburg (a re-creation of an 18th-century city here in Virginia) because I already had so many paper items gathered from there and I knew exactly whom to make it for - my sister-in-law. But then I heard about a friend who had cancer and I immediately knew I had to make one for her and for her mother. Almost all the journals I make now are for people who are experiencing painful situations of one kind or another and I think it truly does cheer them up to receive one. You are precious. Thanks again for being so transparent. God bless!

It was amazing to watch this video today for the first time! I lost my mom the year your mom gave you that diary. I was 22, not 8, but the tragedy was so devistating to me. To have to go through my young adulthood without my mom was the hardest thing ever. We grew up poor and I too have a problem hoarding craft items. I can "create" who I am rather than try to "tell" who I am. Everyone loves my handmade things because they speak of who I am. I don't have hardly a thing from my mother. So therefore I create and give myself away that way. Just a little memory of me. I moved from home many states away to move from the hurts of that time, but the memories will remain none the less. I remember hearing of Serejevo, but cannot imagine having to "leave" my home to escape harm. I wonder if it will come to me here in the USA soon however. Our rights are being stolen from us each and every day, and quickly. Our government is tearing us apart at the seams. The division between people is horrible, and the attack on our religious belief is growing stronger every day. I cannot imagine having to leave the country I love so much. Thank you for telling us about you. :) p.s. There is a gentleness in your voice that is soothing and kind. That is why people watch. :)

Ah Valerie, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom and loosing her and not having many of her things. :( I love that you have found healing in this craft. I love how you explain that you are giving yourself away that way, and also how you "create" who you are, rather than "tell". Wonderfully put. Thank you. It is very concerning what is happening in the US. I was under the impression that things have settled down a little. Its very scary and concerning

I found your channel a few years ago and have enjoyed learning from you. It's nice to get to know you. You do have a love for what you do and you have talent all your own. Videos like yours and Pam at the Paper Outpost have made a big impact on me. I have loved making things since I was a little girl. My grandma taught me the basics of sewing and my other grandma taught me the basics of knitting and crochet. I wasxalso taught to use what you have. Items can be reused and made into something new. We always made cards for each other in my family. We used paper and glue made from water and flour. Mom and Dad kept every card us kids made for them. Dad would use old garden hose and juice cans to make artistic trim in our house by gluing it to the wall and covering it with plaster. You would never know what was under the plaster. He made the house look like a castle. It was wonderful. He taught us kids how to make things from the things people usually threw away. Having little money makes a person think how to use what they have. Again for your video about yourself. 😊

Even as a child going through what you did, you somehow made it through that awful hardship to inspire us with your gratitude for the small things that mean so much. When you spoke of your 1st journal, the pencil case & the doll being your friend, oh my goodness, you truly embody the spirit of appreciating how memories come from those special thoughtful gifts mean more than something bought from a shelf. The love that goes into crafting a gift, the meaning behind the gift. This was a beautiful video and I’m so happy I found it this evening.
I have been lacking in everything since my mum passed away in 2018. I get my love of craft from her, she was a dress maker and she made me my princess dresses when I was a little girl. No one had the same dress because they were one of a kind & and I loved them so much. It has been tough without her, I lost my meaning when she past away. It’s not something that we can retrieve very easily but I loved crafting and your video on Christmas card journals has given me so much inspiration & motivation to begin something new in my crafting journey. I craft paw wreaths and Christmas crafts for dog lovers and this has given me so many ideas.
Thank you & Merry Christmas 🎄
