You're right.
The city of San Francisco is laughing as you calculate all that for LA.
Hearing the living cost in LA always shocks me. The mortgage for my 1200 sqft house is 1075 a month 😳
My condo fees for my 1 bedroom are as much as your mortgage. Where do you live?
I agree that if it's important to have a good quality of life and not spend exorbitant amounts of money, we all need to move out of large cities. I have a friend who owns a 3,000 sqft house in Huntsville, Al (NASA is the big employer there and some Army installation) and pays $1100/month for his mortgage.
I love how there is a grocery bill and also an eating out bill then proceeds to mention how the gym membership isn't needed. I mean I agree but I would also argue that the "eating out" budget is just as useless and unneeded
@K B you both are right but I think you have different types of people on your minds when you talk about eating out. If you have a strenuous job and if you forgot lunch or have no desire to make it, please don't eat out every day in rastaurants and complain that your wage isn't covering your expenses. You must live according to what you make, otherwise problems start piling up. Get a sandwich or a pizza slice, get a shawarma for God's sake. If you eat 5 days a week for a month in a restaurant, you shouldn't complain about money. When I was making little money, I went out to eat max twice a month. If I had to have lunch at work, I'd get the cheapest sandwich or go to a supermarket to get some fruit / bread. Sometimes people need to separate their needs from wants.
At the same time I get what you're saying. Some people can't even afford bread, so we should work on making it as accessible as possible. However I still think that many people in the western world live beyond their means. Getting Starbucks, lunches in restaurants, buying new clothes every 3 to 6 months.... And then they complain about the cost of living. Something tells me that people have no idea that needs must come before wants and only after that you can think of spending the excess on some of your wants. Any other way of doing it and you end up satisfied but broke which will only pile on stress in the long run.
@@divx1001 I totally agree with you , but eating out provide more than just food . You stay with other people and interact , you taste different food and things that you are just not able to cook .
It really depends tbh. When I lived in LA I would look for apartments that were close to a metro station, and I would either walk or take the metro everywhere for the most part. You don't NEED a car to live in LA. There are ways around it. I saved so much money I would've spent on a car, car maintenance, car insurance, gas, etc.
Smart Lady!
Yep. I didn’t have a car when I was in school and this was 10 years ago. There have been so many great improvements on public transportation since then.

My daughter and some college roommates moved to LA and rent a house for $4000 a month. She doesn’t have a car but her housemates do. She takes a bus or Uber 5 miles away to her job in Beverly Hills. She graduated college a year prior in the film industry and received a job offer. I was so nervous about her moving across the country from the east to the west coast but you can’t tell a young 20 something year old anything. She’s been doing OK so far and has been gaining screen writing gigs on the side, I have to let her spread her wings but will always be here for her as a mom but I’m not helping her pay for anything. On occasion, she may asked to borrow some money here and there, but always pays me back surprisingly :-) I wasn’t keen with the area as well. She lives is nice but two blocks away look like a totally different world, but from what I understand that’s LA for you and when I moved her out there last year, the price of gas was bananas and the supermarkets didn’t seem anything like the ones where she was a custom to as far as quality of produce, etc. but like I said she’s been doing OK so far. Her roommates with the cars drive around and they will pick up food together and she chips and for gas and she wants to work on getting her own car. I think when she’s been out there a few years and I see that she still continues to do OK, only then well, I feel all right, but I have to have faith.

U r right I spend same amount here in Berkeley
Thank you. ❤
It’s expensive but NOTHINGbeats living there… I used to live in Venice and regret leaving every day
Damn bro. Venice is sooo lit. I live in Bay Area and honestly other than the outdoors I haven’t found anything fire like what LA got.
Wow, that $500 on health insurance can go towards retirement here in Canada.. Thanks Canada!! 🇨🇦💖
Yet many of you pay out of pocket to get much needed cancer testing etc. in the states because you have that slowly amazing government healthcare that would rather have you die than pay for you to live.
@@donrainesoh haha! Do you live in Canada? if not, you are mistaken lol. Bless you!
@@nish20 No, I work in a very large hospital that many from Toronto use when your government fails them.
canada is great for health stuff unless you’re disabled or have big health problems (coming from someone who lives in canada) lol
Where do you think the money is coming from though? You're paying for it in different ways besides you'd still be making less money in Canada with health insurance.
