  • Holden Torana SL/R 5000, Premier wagon, Commodore and Calais, Ford Fairmont and utes aplenty, this show had some great Aussie weapons, plus an intriguing mix of European classics - MG, Austin, Mini, Lotus, Alfa Romeo (1750 and 75) and American heavyweights from Caddilac, Chevrolet, Chrysler and Dodge. Filmed as part of my trip around New Zealand in a Citroen BX 19GT. Quite a few other Citroens too, much to my surprise!
    HubNut store and support options are located at hubnut.org - the store is still trading while I am overseas.

    This is a typical kinda of car meet. New Zealand and Australia has a very active and vibrant classic car scene owing to the relatively cheap cost of car ownership and the fact that old cars last. Resto tends to be much easier out here than in the UK. Here in Perth Western Australia these kind of events are almost weekly around the city.

    • @terrywright6335
      @terrywright6335 Před 4 lety +1

      @tone167 My procession of fiat 124 sports' I had in Perth would probably argue that point.

      Wish they were weekly here in NZ. I still buy all my parts from the U.K. as they want to much money here. Plus you can never find what you need.

    • @jhamilton7373
      @jhamilton7373 Před 4 lety +2

      Yeah the climate helps here in Perth but it does make you evaluate what constitutes a classic car. Huge numbers of cars here 20 + years old used as dailys. I think people generally consider most things pre 1980 or with a 'steel bumper' as 'classic' at the moment.

    If you look at the window screen on the passenger side in nz,you'll find the registration sticker. It will tell you what model, year even what month and year it was brought in to the country 👍

    Hello Ian, I expect you have a million places to go while you're there, are you going to visit Invercargill ?, birthplace of the legendary Burt Munro.
    If anyone reading this is unfamiliar with his name, please look him up, and also the film 'The World's Fastest Indian', based on Burt going to Bonneville Salt Flats and setting speed records on his old motorcycle at the age of 68, the real-life story is incredible, the film is brilliant, anyone who enjoys Hubnut videos will love it
    Also in Invercargill is the Bill Richardson Transport World museum, mate of mine went there and said it is fantastic (plenty of info online)
    Good luck on your travels!

      He was a interesting old bloke by all accounts but there have arguably been greater contributions to the motorcycle world by Kiwis. My favourite is Rod Coleman, who died recently, in that he rode for a Works team (AJS) in what was the sports' greatest era. First Antipodean to win a TT race (1954 Jnr)...Back story was interesting too in that he gave up his medical degree to go to Europe and race

      It is a very interesting melting pot, I guess part of it is that NZ doesn't really have it's own car industry. While I love them a similar british car show would be over run with Minis and MGBs.

    It's quite interesting to see you discover cars that, as an Australian, have just been part of the landscape. That Group A Commodore bodykit was factory, an attempt to get some aerodynamics into the VL body, based as it was on a 70s Opel. It was nicknamed the "batmobile" and was actually slower down conrod straight at Bathurst, where the drag is more important that the downforce! I agree with the choice of a VL. If you can find a good one (they are 33 years old!) it might make a good choice for your Australian adventure. I had the Skyline with the same motor at the time. I think that Challenger's colour is "Plum Crazy" What a meeting! It's almost worth heading across the ditch!

    What surprised me most was the number of American cars on display. What interests me the most, though, are the rarer Japanese cars and the locally-produced cars that are rarely seen outside Australia and New Zealand. I laughed when you walked right by the Plymouth Satellite to make a bee-line for the tired "more doors are more fun" Escort. Perfect.

    7:25 is Ford Falcon XA Coupe. Licence plate gives it away too.
    Those minis around 9:50 with the white on black licence plates were the standard until 1987 when they went with the black on white (starting with NA in the alphabet). Now they run with three letters. I used to know all the car years just by the first two letters. Dad's Mk II Zephyr was AE (1962), Mum's mini was DL ('67), my Viva was GK ('74). Dad's Datsun ute JF ('79), my Nissan Sunny LG ('84), mate's Mazda 626 ML ('86).
    Hah, real anorak!

    Glad you got to see Caffeine and Classics at least once, Ian. I make the trip over to the North Shore from the southern end of Auckland and had planned to go that day, but woke up too late, else I would have been with the two Heralds or chatting with the owner of the Austin 3-litres (he's a mate of mine too :) ) FI214 is his car and CTZ396 belongs to his wife. Both are lovely people and the 3-litres absolutely beautiful to drive - very smooth and comfortable and surprisingly agile through the corners (that's the cars, not the owners!).

A Citroen BX 16valve ran in the 1995 Production Car 12 Hour race at Eastern Creek Raceway outside Sydney. Very unfortunately, It suffered some sort of brake failure and had a spectacular entry to the pits. It was one of the more interesting cars competing. Loved the pre-Farina Austin (of course). Cheers

    Got strangely excited to see a Repco store 5 seconds into a Hubnut video! Nice to see a bit of a mix of cars at that show. You'll have to track down a "Dream" VL Commodore for OZ, although they are getting quite expensive now!

    Great stuff!
    It’d never do to have a hubnut vehicle without issues but at least the BX only has seemingly minor ones!
    That looked like a great car meet👍👍👍

    Loving the fact that at 3.27, my name is on the side of a building by the motorway 😆
