  • This video documents an excursion on the South Branch Valley Railroad (SBVR) in West Virginia taken in April 1989. The video begins with scenes of the SBVR at its headquarters in Moorefield, West Virginia and continues with scenes associated with the excursion I rode on April 22, 1989 between Green Spring and Petersburg, West Virginia along the South Branch Potomac River. The excursion was sponsored by the Chesapeake Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts (RRE). The SBVR is owned and operated by the West Virginia State Rail Authority (SRA) since it was donated by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad on October 11, 1978. In 1985 major flooding of the South Branch Valley destroyed most of the line including all three bridges that crossed the South Branch Potomac River. Reconstruction began two years after the flood and was completed in 1989. The SBVR is also the host line for the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad.
