She was a brilliant scientist and mathematician, who taught philosophy and astronomy. She was horribly murdered by the early Christians, “who were like an insane cult at the time”. Also of course, “the noise of the righteous dogma that hides the Handmaid’s Tale” is super self explanatory if you have either read the books, or watched the show.

Look up Hypatia. That's what they're saying. I think with that context the creepy chant makes more sense and the whole song is a lot clearer meaningwise.
@@2yoyoyo1Unplugged oh yes i know the story the song is based off, and i get why the chorus is that way. It's just that i LOVED Ghoulette's wonderful voice in the recent live performances.
ok i was listening to some of their older music today, and it's so wild how much they have grown and progressed musically. like damn they really knocked it out of the park with impera
The deluxe version is going to be lit. I wonder if they'll do some covers since most of their albums Deluxe versions have covers. Maybe they'll finally cover Don't Fear the Reaper.
Watching them open up their concert last night at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Virginia with this song was EVERYTHING! I’m so glad I got to see them live because it was worth it.
Well they’ve come a long way from Opus and Infestissumam (will always be my favorite album) but this album truly is a banger, I love it. I’m just along for the journey.
I agree. Everyone is just comparing all the albums when we should just enjoy every one for what it is. Impera is just a new chapter and an amazing one at that!
I listened to Infestissumam today and it's obvious that Ghost has/have evolved. Tobias's vocals are better now and if you compare the lighter, faster songs of Infestissumam (e.g. Idolatrine) to the modern stuff I think the songwriting is more sophisticated too. But in terms of dark and gloomy songs nothing beats Infestissumam. Still, I think Impera is the best album since. It just works for me.
@@potzblitz6577 I can agree with that. The production and cohesiveness on Impera is probably the best they’ve done. It sounds great. For me Infestissumam will always have that sentimental attachment for me which for that reason edges Impera. But I like Impera more than Opus and Prequelle. Having said that I love all the albums. They are all different from each other which is what makes this group so good to me.
This song is about Hypatia who was philosopher, teacher, astronomer, etc who lived in the 300s in Alexandria, Egypt. She was killed by Christians who believed she was a witch. This is back when Christianity was still s cult. The song treats Christianity as a cult that inhibits human progress & human potential. The chorus brings us back to to the present (Long Ago, Yet Too Close To Forever) to drive the point home that it's now & forever. A tale as old as mam himself. It is a very political song. Just like in the times of Hypatia, people today are clashing with the side effects of human progress. We stand at a crossroads as society. Either we will become more than human through our technological might or we will regress to our ignorant & primitive selves. (People see human progress as a threat to themselves but it also threatens the artibers of our social order. So no matter how much bread & circuses you give the masses, those in power will lose it. Another faction will inherit that control. The moment we split the atom, we lost the ability to believe in nonsense.
This is real Heavy Metal, total Iron Maiden vibes... I haven't listened to the entire album yet, but I discovered the new songs seeing them live some weeks ago and when they started with this one I really had goosebumps.
Ghost music brings me back to my teenage self in the 80's in Middle School with my Rock Tee and Tattered Jeans one of the only kids that had parents that let me grow my hair as long as I wanted .... Thanx Tobias for giving those Memories back ... Great Album 👿😈👿😈👿👻👻
@@macgruberyahfrigginturds7044 I’ve been listening to them since Opus Eponymous and this is fucking terrible. I’m not sure why the length of time someone has listened to the band matters in any way though. Maybe you can help me understand.
@@zachiswayposi1 Their sound changed a lot since the fist album and the place where you started to like Ghost will always affect how you feel about the newr stuff. I started a little after Prequelle and fell in love with Meliora. Impera is a banger for me. Opus is pretty good but there is a few misteps (and I also prefer the more subtle aproach of later songs lyric wise) and Infestassium has very few songs that I like.
Ghost is making the absolute best praise and worship music out there today...they've got an integrity to them that you just can't find in any other CCM artists and they do not follow trends....I personally feel that just because they support the away team shouldn't matter and that they should be in the running for the Grammy equivalent, or truly maybe Razzy equivalent, in the christian music industry....the Dove Awards! And they could perform at the ceremony and we could get one of those popular "Mashup" deals where Ghost is performing with, or technically against someone like Kirk Franklin or Toby Mac and maybe the Newsboys? I can hear Papa IV now chiming in each time Michael Tait effeminatly states that God's Not Dead with a snarky "Yet" and ultimately Tait scurrying from the stage in terror from the top less year zero nuns screaming about the horror of boobies!
Same!!! Never gave much thought to them. Knew about them. Knew they were a “weird band” then saw them in concert with Volbeat and WOW!!! What have I been missing?!?!?
Interesting facts. I've just discovered that 'Hypatia', whose name is sung by the backing vocals (first heard at 1:25, but sung repeatedly later over that great guitar riff), was a female philosopher and mathematician in the 4th-5th century AD, who was murdered by Christians who dragged her into a building known as the Kaisarion! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypatia
I thought that chant in the chorus was “we can see you,” but turns out it’s “Hypatia.” Knowing that, suddenly the deep chant on the studio version makes a ton more sense, and the lyrics (and especially the _title)_ click as a whole. This song is way more biting in its message than I thought. Incredible.
just checked out wiki for Hypatia. Man oh man is that story chilling and breathtaking. Song is my favorite of the album so far. Usually the first official song of the album are one of the best from Ghost.
@@austinjohnson2797 Hypatia was a philosopher and teacher from Egypt-Greece-Rome, she was brutally murdered on the streets by a mob because her opponents pegged her as a pagan witch that didn't follow the new religion of the land. She didn't follow jesuss basically. And her brutal death was echoed throughout the empire as warning and a sign of a new empire on top the ashes of the old. Old Roman Empire falling (Emperors), New Roman Empire (Popes).

@@antti927 fixed it. Tks
The intro, especially the scream, is very reminiscent of Maiden’s The Number Of The Beast (The song itself) love it!
I noticed a lot of Maiden influence in this album which just makes it better!
The very beginning gives me a big Unleash the Archers vibe. Especially the scream! Probably totally unintentional but still epic all the same.
@@TheFiretiger27 This is far behind iron maiden..iron maiden is a much better band...
Kaiserion sounds like it would be an amazing Eevee evolution.
How does this comment not have more likes!!!! 😂
HAHA! Eevee's Ghost type evolution! XD
Well pokemon already has volbeat so you never know
mark my words, this album will send Ghost to the stratosphere

Lol nah
Probably not. In its current state the band has no chance to ever go mainstream sadly and it probably never will
Ghost is back with a vengeance! This guy knows how to write a rockin opening track - long may they reign!
I’m so happy new Ghost songs are out
Hell yeah 🖤 been waitin soo long
Great song but man, ghoulette's vocals are missed SO MUCH! It sounded so good with that beautiful voice heard in live recordings..
Yeah, I can't wait for another live album, preferable with Mary on a Cross and Kiss the Goat on there
Look up Hypatia.
@@PredatorTheStealth Can't disagree there!
Agreed
ok i was listening to some of their older music today, and it's so wild how much they have grown and progressed musically. like damn they really knocked it out of the park with impera
The deluxe version is going to be lit. I wonder if they'll do some covers since most of their albums Deluxe versions have covers. Maybe they'll finally cover Don't Fear the Reaper.
I'm kind of hoping for killing moon by echo and the bunnymen
There's also a chance for a studio version of Enter Sandman after that cover in the "live" performance yesterday

Whoever Hypatia was, she sure as hell never expected to be mentioned in a rock n roll song.
Watching them open up their concert last night at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in Virginia with this song was EVERYTHING! I’m so glad I got to see them live because it was worth it.
This song is the perfect way to open any concert….FULL OF ENERGY and great guitar!!
The energy in this song is amazing I'll definitely be replaying this one a lot.
my girl Hypatia finally getting the recognition she deserves
HELL to the YES
The ghouls are sounding killer on this album, this song shreds 🎸
Yeah production and tone is flawless on this album
Please,...a LIVE DVD from this tour!
Hearing this live was magical 😭 I couldn't even process it at first
I agree. It still seems unreal that I actually saw them live. I think most folks have that reaction.
Exactly! It was like an out of body experience
Absolutely!
i was crying
This sounds so much like early and late 70s Rush and I’m so happy about that
Me too! I said rush immediately
Definitely! I also get Kansas vibes, especially from the part around 3:00
Infestissumam is still my favorite as well, but DAMN, this album is absolutely fantastic and this song in particular is truly a classic already!!
Finally the legit studio version! Bloody fantastic!❤️
OMG, when I first heard this in concert live, I FELL IN LOVE RIGHT OFF THE BAT!!!🔥💜🔥💜🔥💜🔥🤘
Hello 👋 shelia
How are you doing today
Ghost music brings me back to my teenage self in the 80's in Middle School with my Rock Tee and Tattered Jeans one of the only kids that had parents that let me grow my hair as long as I wanted .... Thanx Tobias for giving those Memories back ... Great Album 👿😈👿😈👿👻👻
Same brother same!!!!!
I just came back from the French Tour Concert at Lille, and the fact that one of my favorite song was the first to be played was just amazing 😭❤️
I hope they keep releasing more songs in this style.
This album is shaping up to be a continuation of the glory of Meliora. This sounds like the love child of Prequelle & Meliora.
not nearly as good as Meliora.. digging through the album right now, trying to find traces of Meliora..
@@deimosthegameofficial5727 can I ask how long you've listened to ghost and be honest ......
Fun fact: the producer from Meloria produced this album.
“Just because they support the away team”
LOL. 💀
This album has made me a fan of Ghost. This album is a real banger front to back, and this song is my favorite.
Oh my god, I love Ghost so much
GHOST is nominated for ROCK ALBUM OF THE YEAR with Impera!!!! Nov. 20, 2022 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS
Ghost are SAVING rock (and metal) in 2022. Top notch music, nough said.

Same!!! Never gave much thought to them. Knew about them. Knew they were a “weird band” then saw them in concert with Volbeat and WOW!!! What have I been missing?!?!?
@@marcoscastaneda8848 Volbeat is great ... seen them a bunch of times
Damn, Papa Emeritus IV wasn't lying. It really do be the voice of the righteous dogma that hide the Handmaid's Tale 😔
The song is an ode to Hypatia of Alexandria
I thought that chant in the chorus was “we can see you,” but turns out it’s “Hypatia.” Knowing that, suddenly the deep chant on the studio version makes a ton more sense, and the lyrics (and especially the _title)_ click as a whole. This song is way more biting in its message than I thought. Incredible.
just checked out wiki for Hypatia. Man oh man is that story chilling and breathtaking. Song is my favorite of the album so far. Usually the first official song of the album are one of the best from Ghost.
I thought it was 'Gelatine yum'. :)
Absolutely. Tobias Forge: you cannot stop him, you an only hope to contain him.
I'm curious how the title of the song relates to Hypatia, can you clarify?
@@austinjohnson2797 Hypatia was a philosopher and teacher from Egypt-Greece-Rome, she was brutally murdered on the streets by a mob because her opponents pegged her as a pagan witch that didn't follow the new religion of the land. She didn't follow jesuss basically. And her brutal death was echoed throughout the empire as warning and a sign of a new empire on top the ashes of the old. Old Roman Empire falling (Emperors), New Roman Empire (Popes).
This song is such a fuckin banger, I can't stop listening to it
I missed the female backing vocals but it's still a fantastic song!
It’s still there just not as prominent
Yeah it's definitely better live.

This is a great opening for such a great album.
XD
Same twenties honestly made me not excited for the album
