I miss my Bella! No there dog like her!
This is all so helpful. Wr adopted ours from the Humane society. She was tiny. They were unclear re: breed. She let us know right out of the box that we needed to sharpen up & start definite training NOW. She is such a fast-learning, intelligent puppy and has completely captured our hearts. At 11 weeks she is mostly potty trained, knows how to find and fetch her ball & knows what we're going to do next, practically before we do. We've hit the jackpot. So grateful. Thank you so much for all your tips.
We miss our tiny Trinity. She was about 11 pounds and left us at 16.5 years. She helped us raise our #200 Irish Wolfhound…no joke. If she had been his size…OMG! She was 13 at the time and full-on Alpha with him. One of my favorite memories was sitting on the couch with her at about 3 or 4 months. My husband was on the other side of her. She decided to just jump and show us just how athletic she was. I swear she sailed through the air about 10 feet to the other side of the room. She did the whole Rudolph the reindeer, legs perfectly tucked under her body… she basically floated across our living room. We couldn’t believe our eyes. She was a special girl!! We miss her daily.

My Jack Russell passed away early this year just shy of 15 years old. He was by far the best mate I have ever had in my lifetime. The key is to treat them with the intelligent respect they deserve. Liam and I went everywhere together. Hotels, road trips, camping. We also started watching movies together when he was 10 weeks old. And yes. He watched the whole movie. Jacks are masters of language, so keep talking to them each and every day. Trust me. You will be amply rewarded. Miss you Liam!
My Jack died at 15 as well, on Christmas day no less! He just couldnt handle mums cooking again I think haha. I always called him my old mate, he was deadset legend tho. Miss you Jack! Hes probs hangin out with Liam somewhere over the rainbow :)
I am soooo sorry for y'alls loss. My Jack Russell is 13 weeks old she's my baby. I also have a 9 year old shorkie who also is my baby and to just sit and watch them play and Chase each other around the house is so darn cute. I love how intelligent my jrt is. Im a diabetic and the other night we both was sound asleep, she was laying on my shoulder knocked out. Well I guess she sensed something was wrong because she would not stop licking me all over my face until I woke up. Once I was awake I wasn't feeling to good, body shaking and my words were slurring and I know when I get like that my sugars are low, so something said check it and I did and long and behold it was 50 and I guess my jrt sensed it and knew if I didn't get up it was going to keep dropping in my sleep, that right there really opened my eyes on just how really intelligent and smart these dogs are and now she stays right up under me and by my side with every move I make. I call her my guardian angel 😊😋 her real name is Destini 🐶🐕💝💖. I love your videos and will continue to watch cause I still have a lot to learn, so thank you for all the lessons thus far I've learned, especially still needing alot of help with training her.

I’m 80yrs old and have had dogs all my life. I was given a JR puppy 8 yrs ago to go along with my Vizela and bloodhound. She is the funniest, most loving, and most tenacious dog I’ve ever owned. I live on two acres, and she has free range on all of it. One day I couldn’t find her, and she didn’t come in with the other two. I found her up in a tree where she was stalking a squirrel. Her prey instinct is extreme; she is fearless (except for large dogs); and she makes me laugh everyday! The other two are gone now, and I’m thinking of getting another JR for her. (My daughter loves her too, and will inherit her in the event of my death)!
I had my JRT, Jack for 9 years. He passed away from kidney disease, the vet thinks it was in his genetics. It took me probably 6 yrs to get him potty trained, it was a nightmare. I did everything I could to get him right. He was only hyper when people came over, he was very chill when we were alone. He actually became overstimulated if we walked or jogged for long periods, he would just diarrhea, the vet was completely shocked. He knew his crate was his bed so when he was in trouble I told him to go to bed and he went right in. He was funny because he was not the typical jumping JRT as in non existent! He would attack any mouse, bug even snake that was in the house. He was my hero. He would stare at me all the time, I mean all the time. Sweet boy. He was my favorite boy in the world and would give anything to have him back.

My family has been keeping Jacks for about 40 years. They are definitely not the right dog for every owner, but if you are the kind of person who can handle them and give them what they need, they are the best dogs you could possibly ask for. I feel like this list was very on point. Good video. It guts me when uninformed people get a JRT expecting them to be like other small breeds and they end up with way more dog than they are equipped for. Its not fair to the animal and often leads to behavioral problems and the dog being displaced from their home. Anyone who takes on an animal, regardless of species or breed, really should do a tremendous amount of research to prepare themselves and fully evaluate whether they are able to provide the care, commitment, and attention that the animal needs. If I won the lotto, I'd buy a farm with plenty of space to run and start a JRT rescue.

Everybody is telling me: Oh, JR needs a lot of energy! Like is something bad. I love my puppy, she is tiring sometimes (4 months old ), but when she is stubborn she is so funny! The things that i really don't allow- she understand and give up, the things that i am not so detemined in not allowing- she also understands and insist. She is so smart. I hope is not very bad for her to stay alone, when i am leaving the house.
The biggest mistake we made was giving our two jack’s something from the table while we were eating , and you can never give them enough attention they always want more , but I have to say they are dedicated
Me too! Ours now thinks it's her right to have a place at the table. It's embarrassing when we have guests because she loves them so much she wants to share their sandwiches 🤭
My mistake was once I let him lick my plate after dinner… now he hurries us to finish the meal and put the plate for him to clean🙈
Oh, no 😂 Ignore them until you finish your meal. He can sit, watch you eat, it will be annoying, but don't give them anything until you are finished first. And strong "no" when they start to whine. You will loose your mind until they get it, but you'll see how happy they get when they finally get some, after you're finished. I get mine now to wait underneath the table, and get out when all of us are finished. I don't want him staring at guest's plate, making them uncomfortable troughout the whole meal. But started fixing mistake of feeding him from the table, with just making him wait his turn, to get some at the end. But rest of the family, guests, can't be soft, no matter how guilty they will make you feel for not giving them anything during the meal. Good luck, and may God give you enough patience to deal with them :)

Not only do they have an insane prey drive but they are also Houdini’s with NO road sense. Best dogs I ever owned. My last Parsons Russell passed away 4 years ago and I still miss her every day. All their quirks/issues/training needs are worth persevering with, they definitely make the best dogs. And no they are not yappy or bitey, again it comes down to training. ❤❤❤❤❤ Jack Russells
My jrt adopted me at 5 months old. I had him in my life until 2 months shy of his 15th birthday. I had zero problems with potty training, I put him in my bed the first night and woke him up every hour and took him outside, never had an issue with him using bathroom in the house even when I was gone for 10 to 12 hours a day. We ran, we trained and we hunted every evening. He was the greatest dog I ever had, he was always in my lap. My grand puppy is a jrt and he gives his mom grief from time to time but I'm home with him every day and he gets his exercise but he hunts constantly. He to, at 13 years old can get stubborn. Jrt are my all time favorite. They are the greatest and for all the love and personality they have you will never find a better companion. I love your channel.❤️❤️❤️
I have a jack, he's 17, l trained him right from start, your right. He's never left my side in 17 years. He's my little boy. Yes they all have amazing personalitys, they are loving and loyal, they love you and stick too you like glue. There the best companion ever. I wouldn't have a another dog ever.

I have a parson s Jack Russell he’s Patches and he doesn’t leave our sight I have patience he’s like our 3 child and he trained him self and he is like us I’ve talked to him since our grandson gave him to my husband for Christmas he’s 4 now and he needs to be with us as a puppy he followed every single step he was biting my ankles while I was working in my greenhouse I kept a pocket Charlie bear treats and ask him to sit and talking to him constantly he began to respond to each thing I taught him. He is a very well behaved dog person and I believe that he has given us so much love and enjoyment I could never want another parsons Jack Russell he has been a very special little guy to us .❤😊🖐️🇺🇸
I adopted a JRT Rat Terrier mix a couple of years ago and I had no idea it was a JRT mix as the shelter had him labeled a chihuahua. He was SUCH a terror the first 9 months after adoption - spent hundreds of dollars on behavior training classes with a professional... he was biting my boyfriend and me in the face if we touched him or tried petting him (I think he had or has fear aggression stemming from being abused before we adopted him).. along with other messed up things. I eventually put him on Adopt a pet because I couldn't take it anymore. I was literally crying with frustration every day for these 9 months. I started getting inquiries from people wanting to adopt him (I was truthful with his description on the website because I didn't want to hide anything like his biting habits). I started picking all the potential adopters apart and found something negative about each one - for example, one lady lived in an apartment (I live in an apartment and I feel he and JRT's really need a backyard space to truly be happy) so if I was going to put him up for adoption - I didn't want him going to another apartment. Eventually, I discovered I really just didn't want to give him up! I stuck it out and here we are almost 3 years later and he is my best friend and very smart and obeys me. He still has occasionally aggressive behavior when my boyfriend gets near me and he's in his protective mood. The best command word I learned is the word "off" in a stern tone. He listens. You really need to have patience with JRT's. They'll be a great dog if their needs are met on a constant basis - especially mental stimulation which I had to learn. Stuffing a little kong with some treats that are semi-hard to get out will make him really use his brain. Exercise is really important - but I sometimes find it difficult to do because again we live in an apartment. I do make a point to take him somewhere that is enclosed with no other dogs - so he can do sprints in the grass. My JRT does not really like going on boring -non-challenging walks on a sidewalk. They want to be in grass or on a trail of some sort I noticed. To anyone that has or is looking for a JRT - best of luck to you :) they are worth it.

Imho a jrt needs
- at least 50 square meters of space to calm down, at least 200 square meters to run around. I live in a apartment too, and I have to adjust because of my jrt. I have to be friendly with everybody. I woke up in the middle of the night so that my JRTs would have a larger space to run for their exercise. Our building have a concrete roofdeck and I have to be friendly with the building administrator in order for my JRTs to exercise. You're right, JRTs need to run - not walk.
- someone who is fit enough to run/play with it, I bought a 2nd jrt to play with her, jrt's should not be left alone together because they will get into fights after running around for a few mins.
- they loves to play bite. Everyday I chop a mature coconut into 4 pcs and let them chew out the meat and eat. The coconut remove much of the bad smell from their poop. It makes their teeth a bit dull, it is less painful when they play bite with us. It also appear to make the flap at the abdomen disappear, making them appear more fit.
- cats would stress them
- licking a poisonous toad will kill them in 15 mins, this is why we don't want to get too personal with them. They die easily, that's probably why evolution bless them with many babies each time they got pregnant. When you are outdoors, always have a small tank of water available. When you saw it foaming at the mouth, immediately flush the mouth with water, waiting for the vet will allow the poison to get into it's system and kill it.
- Anatomically, the short legged and long legged JRTs are two very different dogs. The difference is not just the length of the leg, long legged JRTs have bigger chest and it's ratio with the legs is more square in appearance. That's why when a female short legged JRT mates with a long legged, there is a strong possibility of a expensive caesarian birth.
- If you want to neuter your male dog, please wait until they are at least 18 months old. Early castration is cruel, it would cause abnormal bone development. And would result in incurable health complications later in life.

I don't normally post on things but I just wanted to say what a very kind, sensitive, heart felt and really accurate description of life with a JRT! This was really well said with love and care for the breed. As you quite rightly say the JRTs (and with my own boy Parson Russells too) are a LOT of dedicated, consistent work but the rewards are amazing. Not for everyone, but as a passionate but amateur trainer they are a joy once you understand and accept their nature. My boy Marty just turned two and we've been working hard for his obedience certificates and just started beginner agility, and I can only do any of this because he genuinely loves working together as a team. I often get funny looks and comments from folk that think I'm eccentric when I have a tonne of home cooked fresh treats in nearly every pocket and our favourite tug toy at all times, at just how much work and preparation goes into to it all, but there is genuinely no greater joy than seeing his amazing recal in even tough situations when you understand just how valuable you have to make yourself to them. They were never breed to retreive or return, but once it clicks they can be amazing at it, just requires as you say a change in ourselves. Prey drive. So true with both the Jacks I have had. If it runs, they're on it. My first jack I could usually recall. But my current jack Sadie... all bets are off.
I have a rescue, boarder terrier/jack Russel cross and I’m grateful I have this information- most people don’t understand the challenges plus this was my first dog! Big personality and not a people pleasing dog but with plenty of personality- now I understand the breed ( I’ve done tons of research I love him even more if that’s possible
Great analysis! Great advices! My JRT almost 7 years old. Before I got him I prepared myself to the challenge. I thought so, but after 6 months of coexistence, I was ready to betray my new friend. All sorts of thoughts can visit the head, but common sense remains. I confirm this breed is not for everyone, but if you dedicate time to your JRT every day in a good mood, you will see that EVERYTHING is a game for him! and in the game he happily adapts to your family rules. My first dog was at 25, and I got a Jack Russel. Oh, boy! I just thought that's what all dogs were like (ripping my arm out of its socket while walking on the lead), so when my next dog was a pug, I thought he was the BEST dog in the world, lol. So responsive to verbal commands, it were as if I'd tugged his lead. And I needed to waaay tone down the firmness I had to use with my Jack, because it would crush my pug's soul. But the energy and clownishness of my Jack are still great memories!
I have one, little black and white one, he’s nearing the end of his life span that’s just gripping my heart, he’s just shy of 15yrs old, trying to give him all the love and attention I can possibly give him, I’ve spoiled him all his life, so he’s definitely a drama queen lol

Me and my family (2 adults, a 7months old, 1,5year old JRT) went for a vacation and in order to keep our JRT in the cabin on a flight we had to take also a ferry for 11h. Our JRT usually barks to people getting too close to us, or talking to us, but during the 2 days journey, she was a perfect dog, sleeping on the bus in her carrier and very calm on the plane, she barked only few times. But what made me a very proud owner, was to walk her on the leash, in the airport and for the ferry, during the long queues for security and border checks. She walked happy at my heel and did not bark to the 1000 people around us. She always surprice me, but this time it was very inaspettated. Love my little JRT.
My JRT was one of the best dogs that I have owned. My Nellie loved to swim in the pool with the kids & pull my oldest son on his skateboard while wearing her harness. She was so sweet tempered my vet advised me to breed her. Miss you Nellie girl ❤️

I actually adopted my first jack russell, about 10-11 weeks old now and had him over a week. He's an absolute sweet boy, good with his crate at night and his potty training is going well. He's learning to sit, with his huge love for treats but is a big nipper, trying to help him learn it's bad LOL. But I'm glad I found this channel. I truly already fell in love with my boy already
My Dory had a problem nipping at that age too, not much you can do but don't encourage them, Dory is going on two now and rarely try to bite my fingers, she was obsessed with fingers at one time. Great dogs, can be a handful and will keep you on your toes but they are worth the extra time and effort
Thank you for your care and advice. This is great. I do not have a JR. My neighbours do. This is the 2nd summer the neighbourhood has to shut the windows because the dog yaps continually. Their solution is to tie him up in the yard and occasionally say 'oh sweetie, please stop it' kinda stuff. Obviously many issues, but tying the dog up?
My mom adopted a JRT back in 2009. He's 15 years old now. These dogs are smart as a whip. Sometimes I'll observe him when he's sitting and you can see him observe everything and his mind working overtime. Also very stubborn and wants to run the show. Very jealous of my mom's attention too. Last time my sister brought her baby over and he kept whining and going on the couch to be center of attention lol 😅 Then he peed on carpet in defiance lol!
I owned 2 JR...Peanut and Petey...separately. I absolutely love these dogs. My Petey just died on valentine's day and I am lost without him. He was 12. He went blind then lost his eyes because of the pain of glaucoma. He survived the loss of his eyes but I was a mess. He adjusted well....I miss him so much.
I plan to get another puppy this summer from a breeder. Petey will help me pick out my new fur baby.

Everything you said lol our girl is a velcro dog and has more energy than any dog I know right up there with a border collie. Smart as they come fetching balls at 9 weeks old! Love the videos and Luna is a sweetheart.
Hi. I like your videos. I have a Jack Russell…. Actually our second one! She is Registered with the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America….which has a good web site ….she is NOT an AKC recognized “Russel”.
My girl does not like to be touched:/ she has a short limit with touch. Our trainer says many dogs actually do not like to be pet too much but will walk away…. My girl growls and will go for us on occasion.
She also has a very strong prey drive. So I’m very careful with her around the house cats.
Luckily we have a good sized yard that we reinforced with cinder blocks at the bottom all the way around.

Our jrt can be so naughty if we don't take control 100% of the time. We too trained her from day 1 as a puppy and everything went brilliant, she was a beautiful companion and really well behaved. Now Ruby is 11 months old, the moment we let things go a little, she is in there doing what she shouldn't! Digging holes in the carpet as well as our garden, as soon as our backs are turned. But we are soon discovering its because we let the trainings go a little. She's such an intelligent dog, if we don't keep her brain stimulated she'll invent something naughty. The other day she actually open my partners sock drawer and made her own toys! And, I'm at home with her all the time!
Thanks for your great videos about Luna, would love to know how you distracted her from digging in your garden. We have lots of holes in our lawn, and even though I cover them she always goes back to the same ones 🤭

You are spot on. I have two JRs (bro and sis). Lots of work, but at almost a year old now, they are finally getting in sinc with us. We have 2 acres. Not enough. They love to hunt, hunt and hunt. They need a challenge. However, they learn fast and are willing to please you. Sometimes there is confusing but they get it. They are not bad dogs. Just knowing the breed really helps. I have a one-year-old JRT called Cashew. She definitely tests my (and my fiancé's) patience and energy levels. She is really good with boundaries in the flat (she is absolutely not allowed on furniture, potty trained by 4 months, and crate trained by 4 months as well) but she gets way too excited with strangers on the street who start talking to her, other dogs (especially when she is on the leash) and specifically knows which family member cuts her more slack (hello grandmothers!). Other than that, sometimes we really think our whole day evolves around her and managing her energy levels (we walk around 10kms DAILY - gonna be really good for our fitness over the coming years haha!) other than that, we are so blessed to have her, she has such a fun personality and brings so much joy to our lives. JRTs are definitely not for everyone as they are a lot of work, I can see that if they are unattended to and not trained, they can get out of hand really quickly!

I got a rescue JRT and she is absolutely amazing dog to me. We constantly fight over a space in my bed, because she just loves to be as closest as possible. Unbelievably active climbing all the broken tree trunks as high as she can, she is certainly a working dog, caught an intruder, and in the woodlands u see just a puff behind her. Complete opposite to my rescue GS who is most relaxed dog with her, loves everyone and has no need to rebel. The only downside is that she is picking on humans and she snaps in warning style to push them away, doesn’t like to be pet by strangers but once she knows the person, she turns into the sweetest. It can challeging and obviously makes me worried because 99% of time she is ignoring everyone ( i tell people not to pet her) and out of nowhere she snap at someone with big scary boots. she had training and she used hate cyclist, scooters etc. and she is trained out of it, but not sure how to deal with that side. I get all positive feedback from their dog walkers, boarding, classes but they do say ‘she has balls’, she does not take any nonsense from any size of the dog. I know she would die for me, she is all in but obviously snapping at someone out of blue is no no.

I had 2 Irish Jacks, Loved them so much, smart, cute, loyal. The barking was the hardest to deal with. I took them with me to the grocery store and they would bark their little hearts out while I shopped. That did help ... Oh keeping up with toys they could chew. Only buy Kong toys - they hold up. Stuffed animal type were destroyed in less than 5 minutes.
We got our miniature JRT in Sept 2022 aged 10 weeks. He is 1 in July 2023. We have trained from day one and some things he picked up really quickly but other things are a nightmare- he has zero recall, especially if he is doing something he shouldn’t like eating worms/slugs/snails/garden bulbs/soil/ fox poo. It’s a nightmare as he thinks it’s all a game, waiting until we get in touching distance and then zooming round the garden defiantly. He is still car sick whether he has food or not before we travel. As he is smaller than a cat he is very good at hiding and usually stands in the flowerpots so he’s not seen! He is not a foodie dog so we can’t train him with treats, but he is obsessed with two balls which we are going to use at training classes in a few weeks. He gets very excited when meeting people, jumping at them and licking. With other dogs, which he rarely sees, he sniffs and is friendly but then starts barking, which usually scares the other dog. Hubby started taking him to bed about 8 months ago, despite my protests, so when he was away for work I decided he was not sharing my bed (due to chronic pain and disabilities) so I pointed to his crate, said bedtime and he went in without issue. Hubby was amazed on return but Bruno is happy in his own bed. A lot of bad habits but good ones too. I just wish he wasn’t so fast as my disabilities are not a good match for his zoomies!
Beautiful jrt you have..it's hard find short hairs jacks that are like the one you have I video in Australia now alot of rough coat now..not a lot breeders around with the beautiful smooth coat you have.there all fantastic but my last was a smooth coat..breeder's retired
my jack Russell da Bodger has knocked 3 of his bottom teeth out going for the postman. took to vet on painkillers and drowsy! still hates the postman

My middle child had/has an addiction for common lizards. The only thing that stopped him for constant foraging was the fact that he lost his sight. I can definitely attest to the smartness of the breed because middle child although blind can navigate around the house as though he is still sighted. He is as determined as ever in keeping up with me. His favorite annoyance with me even as a pup of 3 months was to come up behind me and "snoozzle" the back of my leg. To this very day, he continues to do so. the JRT learns words even if you tell them the word just twice. We were 63 yrs old, and she was already 7 1/2 months old raised on a farm in a barn 😳my word the smell from her about gaged us it was a 3 hr drive , I swear all she ate was hay ,corn and wood and something else not sure what it was ,she's 3yrs old now.
She is attached to me , finally accepts the fact that my husband and I hug and kiss.very protective of me.
I have no space when she wants up in my lap that's all there is to it .
She usually cuddles up with her brother on a chair in my craft room at night they sleep with me one on each side😊.
She definitely rules the males in this house , tried to with me and I let her know she's out of line !! She can tell by my voice what she doing right and what she's doing wrong.
She listen pretty good to me.

#1 rule to training a JRT is CONSISTENCY. If you slip up (or are lazy) and let them get away with a negative behavior, you’ll have problems. JRTs are great at training US, not the other way around. Best dogs in the world when you take the time and effort to train them from day 1.

I have 4 female rescue jacks ranging from 7 months to 10yrs. We run a tight ship which revolves around them. As a result we have 4 well trained hounds. What's the answer? Plenty of stim (up to 2hr a day, raw food, 121 play time, leadership, balanced consistent corrections and praise. Worked tired dogs are happy dogs!
The biggest mistake I made with my jack Russell terrier, was being entertained by them, jumping up and down on their hind legs so much. All that weight on there tiny joints resulted in surgery for one of them.

things to remember when taking on a jack into the home. they do have a hunt & kill gene. Similar to hounds on the hunt. in the real world animals are not pets. Your feeding of them brings on their ancestors feeling of the pack or in human terms the present family. they live for the outdoors & do enjoy to explore. their feed is more blood related than caned stuff & bones are an extra treat. dont tease them as their bite is worse their bark. they are intelligent and a special breed that is brought out within the home.

for people with young children / other dogs thinking of getting a jack russel i highly recommend getting a parson russel terrier instead they have better temperaments compared to jack russels and they dont malt

My cousin asked me to house her jrt temporarily…. This dog reminds me of crackhead. I’ve never seen a more energetic dog. I am not use to this because I’ve only ever owned chihuahua’s. I’m trying so hard with this dog. I only agreed to stay with her because I didn’t want her bounced around to strangers. I wanted her to stay with family. Now I’m seeing she may not match my little cousins temperament 😅 this dog is more for an energetic person. And that’s not me either. The other night I spent 2 hours playing fetch with this huge chew bone in the pitch night this dog is the best at fetch. She found this bone amongst all the leaves 🍁 brush and bushes every time. She loves it.

Do you have a video on how to stop potential aggressive behaviour? My 11 month Ruby growls at us when she is in her bed resting and we've only to look at her. She was absolutely fine until now and has been brought up with my 2 young grandsons fine. I'm a little concerned she may snap at them one day. I've taught our grandsons to respect her space, but would never forgive myself if she ever bit one of them.

Mine does that! If she does it on my couch I give her the command off until she complies… if it’s her bed I give her her space and yes ! I teach my grandchildren hands off

I thought I had prepared myself for a JRT, I have 2 geriatric cross jacks who both had and still have a lot of energy and they are 15 and 16 years old. My full bred is only 10 months old and I was definitely not prepared for the amount of energy she has. Yes she’s very smart and OMG was not anticipating how stubborn she can be. I get up for work around 4am and she starts straight away wanting to play ball ( which is her fav toy) until I have to sweep, mop or vacuum then it’s all out war and I’m at my Witt’s end trying to get anything done. Do you have any tips for this behaviour as I’ve tried treats, clicker training and nothing seems to work.
Something about those vacuums always got my Jacks riled up big time. I had to put them in the yard till I got done it was pointless trying to train it out of them.

Advice on playtime I found on the JRTCA web site is it’s imperative that WE start playtime and WE end it.. not them… Keep the toys only in your reach and start
playtime when you want and end it by putting to away. My jack is 2 now and every day is fun BUT I always need to remind her who’s the boss lol…
That brings memories back to me. My first JR was a real bomb even if I was training with her every day. After year two, even with all this training, I really questioned what I had been thinking getting a JR. Even though I had done lots of research on this breed, I thought I was prepared…but never for this endless energy. But I have to say that to this day, I still miss her dearly. We had an incomparable bond, the time spent training was an incredible experience for both of us (from obedience to tracking to Search and Rescue). I am now with my third JR 😉. So we survive…and start again. 😆 as for vacuuming, I turned it into a game. I would find one if her favourite ball, suck it up with the vacuum, she would go wild, because she did not want this thing to eat her ball so she had to save the ball from it and pull on it (ball was big enough so it would not get into the vacuum) and run away with it🤣. If everything is turned into a game, with a sense of humour, you’re half way there.

I bought a miniature jack russell terrier a few weeks ago, he is 5 weeks now. He is having his first vaccination next Monday 11 march 2024. My question is does my puppy need to be fully vaccinated before i can toilet train him.
If you want a lap dog, get a lap dog. This breed has energy and is willful. The little big dog. The Jack Russell terror. That said, if you are patient, dedicated to training, and take the dog on long walks, you cannot ask for a better breed

I recently was given a JRT or some mix with one...but he's approximately 8 weeks he tend to bite a lot and even if give him a toy he rather want to bite my hand. How can I reduce it? I don't know why he gets like this. it could be he has pent up energy and i can't take him out side since he's not fully vaccinated,😕 it's my first pet any advices for new puppy owners?
Hi! My JRT just turned 1 so I can give you a few tips based on my experience with the same issues.
1. Treat him when he chooses to nibble on the toy rather than your hand. This helps him understand that toy = reward so he will gradually stop biting your hand.
2. When he does bite your hand, ignore him for a few minutes or even try a high-pitched scream (not too high to frighten him though). This would help him understand that he’s hurting you and doing so means that playtime is over.
3. You should start training and disciplining immediately. The earlier you start the better. The effort you put in now really pays off when he’s an adult.
4. If high energy is an issue and you cant take him outside, then consider activities indoors. Even just throwing a ball and getting him to fetch it should be enough given he is young.

We yelp really loud if ours chews on our hands and that helps her to know what we will/will not tolerate. Our Ruby is 11 months old. We also taught our grandsons of 6 and 9 to yelp loudly if she bites down. This had really helped us in her training 🐕🙂
Yes yelp, move your hand away. Give him a chew toy. As soon as he accept the toy praise him and treat him. Always. Teething was very painful for our pup.

Idk what to do. My dog looks just like a Russell terrier, but I know she is not. Her father is a Chihuahua (possibly mixed) and her mother is a Shih-Tzu and she came out looking like a Jack Terrier, but she acts like a JR also. She is not super active anymore because we got into the habit of not taking her for long walks anymore but she's distractive. Whenever no one is watching like I'm the middle of the night she will go thru the garbage, destroy shoes and clothes, go thru the snack cubby for her and the cats and her and the cats will eat all their snacks.
I have a jacka poo. Right now she's holding her back leg up, she keeps licking her foot, if I try to look shell snap at me. I don't know how to help her in do anyone know what it could be, my son says it could be her nail, or she could have stepped on something, but I heard sometimes their leg can be out of socket, can someone give me some feedback I would appreciate it
My JRT mix was doing that when she was about 6 months old. Vet said she had a luxating patella (knee cap pops out of place). Surgery did not sound like a good option for a dog that likes to run, so I just started giving her glucosamine chondroitin MSM and walking her several times a day instead of one long walk. She is now 7 years old and rarely shows those symptoms. I also stopped letting her wrestle with bigger dogs.
Take her to the vet! Something is physically wrong with her. Ignoring it will only make it get worse over time.

First and foremost, if you cannot or will not care for the animal, then don't own one. Second, depending on breed, make sure it gets more than enough exercise and if you truly care for the animal; get it trained if you don't have the experience. You may own the dog but trust and love must be earned. But I have to be honest, JRT are without a doubt chick magnets. I'm just saying lol
sammy, good advice but I must add, the owner getting "trained" is as important as getting the dog trained and that's even more true with Jack Russells! I've seen people spend a fortune on a trainer and still be unable to control their dogs because they don't know what they're doing.
I have neighbors with a huge German Shepard. They did spend money getting the dog trained but the dog is very smart and they are very dumb when it comes to dogs so it still drags them down the street and is totally out of control with the owners whom the dog does not respect at all.
It goes wild when it sees another dog to the extent that happened and it flipped one of the owners causing injury just recently.
These are definitely people who have no business owning a large dog known for it's power and aggressiveness (no, not all.) In my opinion, they have a law suit waiting to happen every time they take their dog out for a walk. The dog seems to be a good animal. I feel sorry for it.
There are breeds that simply don't care about dominance. Jacks aren't among them. A Jack can be perfectly happy as a beta dog, but only if you make it clear he's not the alpha.
But don't buy into the idea that dominance is about violence. It isn't. It's body language and attitude.
