Powerful unambiguous video series by Mr. Horton, My take away on closed traverses, for internal angles with AZ given; regardless of CW or ACW traverses.
Internal Angles while facing interior= Left Az -Right AZ (provided AZ was corrected as back Azimuth when it was pointing toward station; this will yield the same answer on two equivalent closed loops regardless of CW or ACW TRAVERSE with different nomenclatures.

Mr. Horton is so far the best trying to teach surveying principles.

For the last two calculations (the weird negative ones) you can flip the numbers you are subtracting. Then do 360-your #. Good luck you can do it!

  • @arkrealtorcaseygarretthearn

    Azimuth (A) minus Azimuth (B) Minus 180. = I Rotational clockwise. thus 336*15'24" - 68*39'39" - 180* equals interior angle. Regards.

Could you have said..... In the CCW direction, subtract everything unless you get a negative difference. When that happens, add 360 to the first?

You can add HG + 180 degree minus hj to get the corner angel h - be the same result .. same thing with Angle G - gh + 180 degree minus gh = angle g

How did you compute the angle JHG? I'm confused on how you got 266-46-38 from:
    69-28-46
    -336-15-24
Do you have a video that explains this example? I saw your angular part 2 video but it didnt have this kind of computation. Thanks.
Edit: Nevermind I was able to find the answer by flipping the problem making it:
    336-15-24
    -69-28-46 = 266-46-38 = -266-46-38
    +360 = 360-00-00
    -266-46-38 = 93-13-22

Hi, thanks for posting this video. I have a question, when you compute the differences by subtracting how are you doing that exactly? For example you subtracted the following azimuth readings 299-02-54- 184-33-54------------------------ 114-29-00when I subtract 229-184 I come up with 115. How are you getting 114? and when you subtract 02-33 how are getting 29?

Just wondering if my math is incorrect? 339 15 24 minus 69 28 46 = 269 46 38. You have 266 46 38. Just wondering. scratching my hollow head. If not for Todd I would have QUIT Construction Management course. Halfway through Surveying, really a struggle, esp if you are not gifted in Trig, Geometry of Algebra, which I'm not. If I make it out of Surveying, what a celebration.

You right, but the way he explained it, you should be able to know the formula for calculating interior angles. But adding mistakes are already pre-programmed into all of us!

39' became 38' when you subtracted 54" from 39" leaving you 45" from one of the 39'.
