I love how you just use common sense to make do anything you need extra. So many people do not have common sense, and still think they are geniuses! Have you ever used a double stitch needle to make 2 parallel seams at one time? Also, have you ever checked into quilter's cutting mats, rotary blade cutters and see through rules? Besides quilting, I use it to cut wallpaper. So easy to use. God bless, love your videos!

There is no way I am ever going to watch an hour of anyone sewing .....Unless it is Dave making a new shelter project.... I really like the tarp / shelter piece..Looks like it could make a really nice tent..Sure would be nice if you could have someone make these and you could sell them

Reallybigmonkey1 Here’s a secret for you.....you know how people will lick the thread to remove frays to make threading easier.? Well....secret is to wet your finger and apply spit to needle instead. It eliminates burrs on needle and threading is a breeze.

Omgoodness brother, You are on to something amazing there. From an engineer’s perspective, check into a textile company in your area, and also making a patent for your idea. Emergency thermal tarp, tent thermal footprints, emergency bivouac tarp/bags. Good luck and keep us updated. 🙏🏼😉🇨🇦
One thing that I saw a lady do that was sewing slick fabric and having trouble getting it to feed, she put some tissue paper on the bottom so the feed dogs could get some traction. Then just rip it off when you're done. I admire your tenacity. Thanks
Another great video ! Have you looked at the "Sewing Clips" on Amazon? You can get 100 of them for under $10. Works better than tape or pins. As your sewing you can just slide them off while sewing with out having to stop.
the sun came out and dried up all the rain and really big monkey went back to work again sorry dave had to lol . you know i been watching you dave and bugging you since 2015 roughly lol . and you put up with me for some reason lol . but i got to say i think i remember when you started the sewing it was just little pouches and i think bags for cook sets so on . but you have really come a long way with the sewing and i got to say it is fun to sew i did a little bit when i was a young man growing up with four older cousins girls in the late 70s and early 80s you learned alot of things like sewing and crocheting well maybe not alot but some lol . one thing i never learned but i bet would come in handy for knot tying was macrame . they dont teach that stuff no more . i even remember the old nail and thread art remember that . well any way i got off subject lol . cant wait to see your new set up brother looks like its going to be nice and warm for sure . always enjoy hanging out with ya brother god bless ya .

@@Reallybigmonkey1 Try putting up a $1.95 mylar survival blanket at a 45 degree above the fire. Use duct tape on the corners for support and bank line to suspend. Wow. It lights up the camp and reflects heat. I use a tiny flashlight with a single AA battery shining up into it for a soft light all night long. One AA last about 10 to 12 hours.
7:37 "It ain't gonna win no beauty contest... but with the track record I have, I'm allowed to catch it on fire anyway" LOL, made my day! How many layers of canvas is this sewing machine good for? I have an average Husqvarna and it starts to be troublesome around 3-4 layers of heavy canvas, which makes sewing edges somewhat finicky. Could be my needle choice, though. Truckload of popcorn already ordered for next show ;-)

Thank you again for another how-to video. Nothing wrong with a guy knowing how to drive or owning a sewing machine. My mom made sure me and my brother knew how to use one and how to sew by hand since we were young. It's one of them skills ya will never regret having. Love that reflector. Think I may try this project myself. I'm still working on that tent/shelter I started last year, and this reflector gave me an idea! Thanks again and we shall see ya in the next one!

How in the heck can ah wreck my neck, if I ain't gotta sit on the floor?" :) Nice thing about using masking tape while sewing is that you can stitch through the tape and still peel it off after you're done sewing. Wish there were more thumbs up I could give for the episode of "Men's guide to using a sewing machine."

There's enough women out there making sewing videos on making clothes, but most guys just grab 4 new pairs of jeans and a pack of t-shits, so we really don't need to know how to sew a skirt or dresses, or flower print fabrics. Tends to make most men a bit uncomfortable to even deal with those fabrics, but a good camo? sure, why not? OD Green? Earth Brown? no worries. Paisleys? Fuh ged aboudit. "You want me to watch a video about making a skirt so I can learn to use a sewing machine? And just what am I gunna do with that skirt when I've made it, just throw it away? No thanks, next video please." And the types of fabrics that typically get used are a bit different too I think. Are guys going to use Codura or Chiffon? Silnylon or Satin? I have to tell you, though, it would piss me off royally to see someone else take your ideas and run with them for their own gain. Hi, David! In addition to bushcraft, I also quilt. What we quilters do in a situation like this is roll the two fabrics together along the length and secure it with clips, leaving the area to be stitched open. I like your tape idea for basting.

I bought a small sewing machine at a garage sale last summer. Thought I would learn to sew small pouches and stuff. OMG there is so much to sewing I am overwhelmed. Wow you kept me glued the entire video watching you sew that's amazing but its not really about your sewing its about your vision thank you for passing on your ideas. I've used a lot of that reflective material in plenty of attics and that idea never crossed my mind .
Really enjoyed this! Maybe you should consider building a higher bench with a smooth top and a drop in the centre for your sewing machine similar to a mitre saw bench.. Then you won't have to bend over for so long. The underside could be used for storage and the top could be used to lay out your gear for sorting and packing when you are not sewing. You seem to be doing more larger projects and a bigger bench may come in very useful long term. Get a tall comfy stool on wheels and you can wheel around the gear room after a long day on your feet at work. Add ceiling tracks for camera mounts and lighting and you have an artist's studio because let's be honest, you are an artist.
That was one HUGE ton of work you put into making this single video, Dave. Hats off to you mate!! I shall have to ask a friend of mine who's a sailmaker how they get on with large pieces of material. As you can more than appreciate, she has to deal with seriously large pieces of material too. Cant wait to see the end product in use and I hope it works as well as it looks like it should for you.

Reallybigmonkey1 Here’s a secret for you.....you know how people will lick the thread to remove frays to make threading easier.? Well....secret is to wet your finger and apply spit to needle instead. It eliminates burrs on needle and threading is a breeze.
You know they make liquid thread, right? To use as basting stitch instead of blue tape.

One thing that I saw a lady do that was sewing slick fabric and having trouble getting it to feed, she put some tissue paper on the bottom so the feed dogs could get some traction. Then just rip it off when you're done. I admire your tenacity. Thanks

Another great video ! Have you looked at the "Sewing Clips" on Amazon? You can get 100 of them for under $10. Works better than tape or pins. As your sewing you can just slide them off while sewing with out having to stop.

the sun came out and dried up all the rain and really big monkey went back to work again sorry dave had to lol . you know i been watching you dave and bugging you since 2015 roughly lol . and you put up with me for some reason lol . but i got to say i think i remember when you started the sewing it was just little pouches and i think bags for cook sets so on . but you have really come a long way with the sewing and i got to say it is fun to sew i did a little bit when i was a young man growing up with four older cousins girls in the late 70s and early 80s you learned alot of things like sewing and crocheting well maybe not alot but some lol . one thing i never learned but i bet would come in handy for knot tying was macrame . they dont teach that stuff no more . i even remember the old nail and thread art remember that . well any way i got off subject lol . cant wait to see your new set up brother looks like its going to be nice and warm for sure . always enjoy hanging out with ya brother god bless ya .

@@Reallybigmonkey1 Try putting up a $1.95 mylar survival blanket at a 45 degree above the fire. Use duct tape on the corners for support and bank line to suspend. Wow. It lights up the camp and reflects heat. I use a tiny flashlight with a single AA battery shining up into it for a soft light all night long. One AA last about 10 to 12 hours.
Definitely need shades 😎😎for those reflectics

How many layers of canvas is this sewing machine good for? I have an average Husqvarna and it starts to be troublesome around 3-4 layers of heavy canvas, which makes sewing edges somewhat finicky. Could be my needle choice, though.

Thank you again for another how-to video. Nothing wrong with a guy knowing how to drive or owning a sewing machine. My mom made sure me and my brother knew how to use one and how to sew by hand since we were young. It's one of them skills ya will never regret having. Love that reflector. Think I may try this project myself. I'm still working on that tent/shelter I started last year, and this reflector gave me an idea! Thanks again and we shall see ya in the next one!

Nice thing about using masking tape while sewing is that you can stitch through the tape and still peel it off after you're done sewing.

There's enough women out there making sewing videos on making clothes, but most guys just grab 4 new pairs of jeans and a pack of t-shits, so we really don't need to know how to sew a skirt or dresses, or flower print fabrics. Tends to make most men a bit uncomfortable to even deal with those fabrics, but a good camo? sure, why not? OD Green? Earth Brown? no worries. Paisleys? Fuh ged aboudit. "You want me to watch a video about making a skirt so I can learn to use a sewing machine? And just what am I gunna do with that skirt when I've made it, just throw it away? No thanks, next video please." And the types of fabrics that typically get used are a bit different too I think. Are guys going to use Codura or Chiffon? Silnylon or Satin? (yes, I went and looked something up.)
Anyway, sorry for the tangent, and as always, I look forward to your next video! :)

Hi, David! In addition to bushcraft, I also quilt. What we quilters do in a situation like this is roll the two fabrics together along the length and secure it with clips, leaving the area to be stitched open. I like your tape idea for basting.

This would have been an opportune time to have Nick available to help push and pull the fabric along. This is something of a continuation of the fire shield that I commented to you about making another side and a roof for it and you replied that you had already had that in mind. I bought a small sewing machine at a garage sale last summer. Thought I would learn to sew small pouches and stuff. OMG there is so much to sewing I am overwhelmed. Wow you kept me glued the entire video watching you sew that's amazing but its not really about your sewing its about your vision thank you for passing on your ideas. I've used a lot of that reflective material in plenty of attics and that idea never crossed my mind .

Really enjoyed this! Maybe you should consider building a higher bench with a smooth top and a drop in the centre for your sewing machine similar to a mitre saw bench.. Then you won't have to bend over for so long. The underside could be used for storage and the top could be used to lay out your gear for sorting and packing when you are not sewing. You seem to be doing more larger projects and a bigger bench may come in very useful long term. Get a tall comfy stool on wheels and you can wheel around the gear room after a long day on your feet at work. Add ceiling tracks for camera mounts and lighting and you have an artist's studio because let's be honest, you are an artist.
