    I can’t stand people who complain about the scrum in union. I love the contested scrum. If you don’t want contested scrums then watch rugby league. I watch league. I love all the codes of rugby; union, league, 7s; I love and watch them all.

    • @Connor6569

      Can't stand the resets tho. Should call time off. Instead they waste 5 minutes of game time

    • @MichaeldeSousaCruz
      @MichaeldeSousaCruz Před 4 lety +4

      Connor I can understand the frustration you feel about the resets, but think about this. If the clock was stopped for every reset, that would extend the game. Remember, American Football comes directly from rugby, and they stop the clock many times throughout a game. A 15-minute quarter can easily turn into 45 minutes real time, a 60 minute game can easily lapse pass 3 hours... yikes! I’m an American who grew up with the NFL, but once I found Rugby 4 years ago, I dropped the NFL and have been a fan of all the codes of rugby.
      Plus you can think of the resets adding to the drama of the overall game and the time crunch putting pressure on all involved. Adds a dynamism unlike other sports

    • @Connor6569
      @Connor6569 Před 4 lety +1

      @@MichaeldeSousaCruz It doesn't add drama to the game. It sometimes kills over 10 minutes of ball in play time. Either turn the clock off for the reset or add the time on at the end of the game.

    • @MichaeldeSousaCruz
      @MichaeldeSousaCruz Před 4 lety +5

      Connor you might as well watch league (which I’m a fan of too) if you want to have more ball in play time. League is decades ahead of union in catering to spectators, because they went professional long before union and they had to create a game that people would want to pay to see

    Only backs and Aussies moan about the scrums. So much unseen work goes on in there that too many people fail to understand or apprieciate. Austin Healy is the perfect example of a mouthpiece that just doesn't have that understanding, yet willing uses his ego and influense to rattle on about it; a good underatanding of his position in the game, but not of what goes on at the grunt end.
    Without the scrums the backs wouldn't have the platform to play their part nrarly as often.

      C 0 Sinklers a hot head who in high pressure games will let the side down with discipline. Cole is much more controlled, experience and just coz he doesn’t do fancy offloads or big runs like sinkler doesn’t mean he doesn’t offer anything.

    • @tollyt7465
      @tollyt7465 Před 4 lety +16

      There speaks someone who doesn't and/or hasn't played in the front row at any decent level, and probably never.. Old King Cole and Jacob leafblower Marler are still Englands two best scrummagers, which as he said is needed to tire out the opposition pack, which in turn allows players such as Rhino Genge, Mako The fly half and Stinckler to rampage around the park later in the game. England are the only team in world rugby to have the benefit of players such as Cole/Marler to add depth and huge experience to their front row.. I played in some very good front rows as a hooker, albeit many years ago [almost stone age], and there isn't a better set of props on the planet right now, with the addition of Exeters Harry Williams to the 5 at the RWC.. They all offer what is required in any given circumstance..

      Cole is solid in the scrum but he’s not destructive or feared. The way he plods about the field in between scrums isn’t world class. Let’s say he’s 7.5/10 in scrums and 3/10 in open play. Surely that can’t rank him as one of the world’s best tight heads.
