  • In this video, we show you how to remove your front and rear valance on your 4runner. Once removed it's up to you whether you paint them, vinyl wrap them, or completely replace them with the trd pro option. We chose to show you how to paint them because not everyone is comfortable doing vinyl wrap. It's a cheap and easy way to make your valances black and save over $300. Below is a link to the trim black we used. If you have any questions please comment below. Thanks for watching and remember your xpedition is on the horizon.

    Nice job! You had me at removing the front valance clips but lost me at removing the rear bumper. I'm okay at taking stuff off, not so okay at re-assembling. I will take my chances sanding the rear valance on-vehicle. My TRD ORP is silver. I've added the gray TRD rims, added black overlays painted with gun metal gray Plasti-dip which is what I will do to the valances. Not as much contrast as black but it's different.

      We ended up removing the rear bumper so we could completely remove the rear valance from it. So we didn't take the chance of getting overspray on anything or accidentally sanding on the white. It made it easier to also sand the edges. Removing the rear bumper doesn't take long and it just made the painting process easier.

    Will definitely look into doing this. I have a black ‘16 Trail Premium. Looking to have full black balances. Considering if I should take them to match the paint or leave the “matte” look… subscribed and looking forward to your content!

      All depends on the kind of look you are going for. The paint matched valances do give you a cleaner look in my opinion. The black valances have a more aggressive appearance. In our case, the silver valances were hideous against the white and we wanted to show the 4Runner community how to paint them black in a DIY manner.

      @@yotaxpedition would you recommend the sem flexible primer or would that be unnecessary. Thanks for responding

      @@AG4runner I think you will be fine without it. As long as you just scuff the clear coat to get that top layer off the paint should stick fine.

    Looks good for now but being the front bumper part. Just get it professionally painted or buy one that's black. It will save you the headache down the road with chips & flaking. 😆👍

    • @yotaxpedition
      @yotaxpedition  Před rokem

      Still looks good. I personally wouldn't clear coat it because I like the flat look. With clear, it would be too shiny. But you might like that look. The paint as is matches the other black accents pretty well.

    I have no idea how you reached all the clips in the front bumper. The two extreme side clips where the slits run vertical impossible. I ended up putting my clips back in that I did get off and just masked the car with plastic and masking tape. Back bumper worked out as you did 👍🏽

      Im with you 4hrs and those clips on the end are impossible this 4runner must be a little more simple my 24 premium has some side covers that dont let you get to them without removing the while bumper

      The rear bumper removal and installation is not a difficult job. Just take your time and be careful to watch the paint when reinstalling it.

      Right, they might as well just buy a TRD pro, all OEM parts. Mods are very expensive and they add up quickly
