Strange Drunken Fellow gives Luffy a Strange Red Apple while Thanking for Help (Japanese/Subtitled)

- From episode 146 of Anime called "one piece". A strange man falls down the street and zoro with luffy helps him back on on his horse who then falls down from also being drunk. So the stranger gives some strange apples for repay resulting them blow when Luffy bites one of them. Since luffy gets only a dud nobody gets injuried with only Nami getting a lil crazy atm.
This is Original Japanese with Subs and not some Funimation Dubs.
The funny thing about this is that we had no freaking clue that guy was part of the same crew that terrorized the drum kingdom and whose captain ace was after. Oda really knows how to build characters up.
When you look at this story from a planning point and detailed of veiw, it's without doubt one of the best written stories ever!

@@machina5 while it's true that he has a lot of assistants, they mostly help with the artwork, not the story, so it doesn't really change the main point that the story (for the most part) all comes from the mind of Oda, dude even has the main points of how it will all end written in his will, just in case something happens.
He was giving those apples to random people trying to get their devil fruits, as when a fruit user died the fruit goes to the nearest fruit nearby. This makes more sense when we find out later that Blackbeard's crew are hunting devil fruits, this is pretty neat foreshadowing I think. Wow i wrote this a year ago and I got so many likes! Thanks guys!

we dont really know about that "nearest fruit" thing. we have seen it with caesar, but caesar is a scientist close to vegapunk, maybe caesar is leagues behind vegapunk, but i would say that still is more than enough to know a thing or two about devil fruits. blackbeard pirates do know things about them, but their knlowledge is far more limited, also in my opinion the thing that they use to steal fruits is blackbeards ability itself.
lets not forget that people like the cp9 had still limited knowledge about the fruits, so something as simple as having a normal fruit near a user before killing him to get the power is iny my opinion not enough (blackbeard did something far more dangerous to himself behind that blanket when he stole whitebeards fruit)
its cool how luffy met these very strong guys and oda didnt really make a big scene or fight scene about this.
They were pretty weak at the time, Ace could probably have soloed them all if Blackbeard wasn´t there
***** If we say that Ace is about admiral level in strength (probably a little weaker), during Ace fight with Blackbeards crew Ace was able to easily deal with everyone except Blackbeard, so compared to todays standards that mean they were very weak.
Ace was no where near admiral tho, he stalemated smoker and smoker got owned like 3 times in one arc since the time skip, sabo with haki and ace power plus dragons training was having a hard time keeping up with an admiral, ace was way below admiral.
The fact that he couldn't utilize Haki put him at a huge disadvantage, he lost to blackbeard, who was owned by Magellan in seconds, the same blackbeard who was owned by whitebeard in seconds, the same whitebeard who got his face blown off and his inside incinerated by an admiral. He stalemated with Jinbei, and was casually brushed off by Whitebeard when he challenged him. Like i said, he is no where near an admiral dude.
Yeah what the hell. Jimbei isn't weak, but Ace and Jimbei being equal in power was years ago.
What Darkness said makes no sense. Blackbeard himself said that he doesn't take anyone that is weak under his crew, and Doc Q is part of it. Yes, Doc Q looks like a weak character, but this is One Piece, so appearances don't matter.
What we learn here:
1. Luffy is lucky.
2. Zoro is realistic and see things as they are.
3. Nami will be the one to kill luffy before the apple.
I like how this shows that the straw hat pirates are the luckiest group and make them survive until now

as a Long time OP fan I'm skipping the unnecessary Kaido arc and any other unnecessary Time Skip arcs I stopped after Whole Cake Island
once the War arc begins I'll get back to One Piece it's been a good run

Evil Eye yeah, but one thing that seemed weird to me were the bounties of the three other guys: Laffitte 42.2 M, Burgess 20 M and Van Augar 64 M. I think the bounties were far too low for these guys, even before the timeskip.

This is what i like about one piece. They introduced future strong villians early in the game. So the hype and excitements boils up until we reach the arc of that villain. Not unlike other animes, where every arc they introduce new enemy that shows up out of no where. Lol

If you stop and think about it, Doc Q easily had the best chance to kill Luffy right then and there, overall in the franchise. I'm honestly surprised nobody else tried this with Luffy, seeing as how easily he puts food in his mouth, without a second thought.

Here’s my theory. The reason why that guy gave Luffy the apple is so he is able to kill him and take his devil fruit. Since devil fruits reincarnate to the nearest fruits when the user dies.
I think he goes around like that, collecting devil fruits. Not really going for Luffy but for df users in general. Smart actually.

I think what is crazy about all this is that it's in the beginning where nobody was taking luffy as a threat or serious. Luffy was still proving himself. The blackbeard pirates seemed like they really knew who luffy was. Like they knew he was going to be a threat in the future. They took luffys ambition seriously.
I just remembered that apple in Japanese is "ringo" (りんご
) and Doc Q is loosely based off of Doc Holiday. Doc Holiday faced Johnny Ringo when he was close to death and you could interpret their showdown as a test of his fate because he was severely ill and Ringo was also highly skilled. So, Doc Holiday tested his fate by dueling Johnny Ringo and Doc Q. tests other people's fate by offering their pick of an apple (i.e., "ringo" in Japanese). I may be reaching here, but Oda plays a lot with words and this suddenly occurred to me lol

He was trying to collect devil fruits by giving those exploding apples to random people. Makes sense, that the reason of having a dud fruit(original fruit) in the basket. He would give the exploding fruits to other devil fruit users and when the devil fruit user dies by eating them, their fruit would reincarnate to the nearest original fruit(the dud). Luffy was lucky enough to eat the original fruit.
I really like that theory, but he could have just kept the real apple in his pocket or something. Would be cool if true tho

Thats exactly why he is permanently riding his Horse, called "Stronger", but the Horse is sick too xD
However, even though the Horse collapses too sometimes, it still has very much endurance and manages to transport him very far, without collapsing that often.

Doc Q was always the Blackbeard Pirates doctor. Their entire crew (minus the Impel Down recruits and Lafitte, who was on a mission) is in town during the Jaya Island arc.
Also, the title of this video should read "Strange Sick Fellow" instead of Drunken. Doc Q is perpetually ill, that's why he's on the ground.

I am just waiting for the day when this old dude gets into a fight and he turns out to be just as powerful as Kaidou or something.
Thats was the work of the Strawhat im calling it. There are so many scenes back in One Piece Oda foreshadowd us that the Strawhat makes a D. very lucky. Like this scene or right before the Knuck up stream, thunder who saved Luffys life from Buggy, Roger back then agains Shiki even Hawkins couldnt see Luffys death. I think thats why Doflamingo wanted the Ope Ope no Mii, to change his soul with a D. Soul and make him invincible.
Some people say it is plot armor and brush it off but I think it is justified. In every "to be the strongest whatever" series the protagonist has to have a combination of talent and luck that takes him to the top. Maybe there were other people with more talent potential who died earlier on because of any trick of the destiny and more lucky guys that are just not as strong therefore are the typical i dunno, leathersmith for example that always get those 4 leaves trebol. This gets magnified if the guy is a "chosen one" like it seems he is in this series.
