  • In this Video I show you how to replace the screen on a Moto G Stylus phone.
    I am by no means a professional repair person, quite the opposite I'm new to nearly every repair I do. I'm a noob just like you probably are and I'm just showing that it's possible for regular folks like us to repair and maintain our own devices.
    That being said if you do choose to do your own repairs do so knowing that you are taking on the risk of damaging your device or even harming yourself if you are not careful so again I am not a professional and if you attempt to do this repair you are doing it at your own risk.

    Thank you! So helpful, and it worked out well for me. The Cruz was getting the battery out without stabbing it, doable with a fork/spoon and guitar pick.
    One note: you can remove the old screen without ripping the cable, by first removing the battery to expose the screen cable and safely remove it. Some peace of mind in case the new screen breaks or doesn't fit and you need to put the old on back on.

    I replaced my 1st screen couple of weeks ago without watching any videos, I used nice thin razor blade and did not use any heat gun. Screen was already fked up so I didn't care to be too care full. Process took 30 min. Once I took the screen of I was disappointed that I had to open the back side and take it apart to plug in the screen but it was so easy that now I'm looking to fix other phones laying around the house. I recommend doing it your self its fun and easy and about 30 min. I used supper glue to put it all back together and it did just fine.

    • @Projectlalo
      @Projectlalo  Před 3 lety +6

      Love the enthusiasm!
      Yes, it can be super easy to fix!
      Heat gun just helps make the process easier, faster, and it helps in preventing unwanted damage.
      As far as glue goes, I suppose anything works but I would advice against super glue. If you ever need to open things up again it might prove near impossible without damaging something. Superglue can also be very harsh on plastic components.
      Just my two cents!
      I'm glad to see people out here trying things!

      You didn't watch a single video prior? Not one? What instructions did you follow? How did you know what to do? Where did you get the kit? I'm assuming it was just the outer glass that was cracked correct? I'm just trying to fix mine as cheaply as possible because my cheap ass did not get the insurance within the 14 or 15 day window and now my glass is effd up real REAL bad. No issues with the LCD thus far no it was nothing like that but got to fix it before that happens

    • @Projectlalo
      @Projectlalo  Před 2 lety +2

      @@dragonslayer-em2qo so it's pretty much impossible to replace just the glass. It's all different layers of the same component. So if you had the right equipment (expensive) then maybe you could do it but then you'd also need the very specific part and I'm not sure how you'd find that.
      I've tried replacing just the glass on other phones and I've found that the replacement glass is not the same as the original it's missing layers.
      Also pretty impossible to do with regular tools.
      I have a munch of links in the description to where you can find the things you need to replace your screen.
      I'd say the easiest thing to do is just replacing the whole screen as a unit.
      Good luck!

Too bad I can't post a link to show the before after. I've got my display for $36 at AMZN. I have my own screw drive set, including T3. It good to check all function before putting things back together. the most PITA thing is the battery, probably need to use some sort of solvent to make the tape not sticky vs. trying to pry it
    once you get under the battery (widest side gap) you can use a credit card after you've lifted it up some, still feels sketch
    you also have to check that your replacement display has the bevel thing going around it, with the speaker grill, mine didn't so I have a gap around my phone lol

I was moving slowly and carefully, prying slightly on each side, using a hair dryer to heat the other side from time to time to help loosen the glue/tape. The battery was disconnected, but somehow I lit it up like a fire cracker while trying to get it loosened from the double sided clear tape. I had even mentioned to a family member that I had to be careful with the Li-ION battery. Then I went and did that. Bummer. If I had to guess as I was attempting to pry the battery out its end cable touched the board somewhere. If your attempting this just be aware. I should have folded its cable back so it was outside of the case like shown in the video. It's either that or I pierced the battery.

      Does the back lift away from the phone when the glue is soft or do you have to get in there and wedge it apart because I can't seem to get in there and I've been at it for 20 minutes and it's becoming frustrating 😡🤬

    • @Projectlalo

      I used a blade to get in there and get started. it honestly took me at least thirty minutes to even get that far. It's hard to get started but once you can get an opening just went a pretty tool in there and keep hearing and slowly working it until it's all removed. It's going to take a long time and it should. You don't want to rush it and break anything. And yes it's very frustrating. Good luck!

    HI, that was pretty good for a first try. And next time it would be good to see you reapply the tape too.
    I'm guessing that you used no glue to put it back together? You talk in comments like you HAVE fixed other phones?
    EDIT, later I saw your link to the tape. Which one did you use 1mm, 2mm or 3mm??
    Later, I also read the tape did NOT hold so you had to glue it all back together.

    • @Projectlalo
      @Projectlalo  Před 2 lety

      Yes, every phone is different. Pretty much no iPhone screen ever needs glue. It just pops in to place and you tighten two screws at the bottom of the phone to keep in place.
      The android phones have it glued in or screwed in so I had no ideas going in if I was going to need glue or tape or not.
      There fore I was unprepared at the time of making the video because I didn’t know I had to glue it until I took it apart.
      Glue is best, yes. Linked in the description if you are curious.

    Will replacing the touchscreen digitizer assembly take care of phantom touches, as well as the glass being cracked? My Moto started going seriously haywire with phantom touches, for no apparent reason, which caused me to remove the case and screen protector, which caused the screen to crack when it slipped out of my hand.

    • @Projectlalo
      @Projectlalo  Před 2 lety +1

      So the phantom touch thing might be due to water damage.
      I've only had that problem with phones either when the screen is already badly cracked or when there's water in the phone.
      Could also be a motherboard issue.
      Replacing a part is never a guarantee of repair.
      The best you can do is make an educated guess and work from there.
      First I'd make sure there's no moisture present.
      Then I'd just go ahead and replace the screen since it's already cracked.
      But if it is a moisture issue and it works fine cracked and you want to save some money you can just keep using it.
      If you replace the screen and the problem persists. Then the motherboard might be bad.
      So you'd have to replace or have that fixed if that's a possibility.

      @@Projectlalo The screen is fixed, and the b7k glue is drying. I dislodged the battery with a precision screwdriver, and it sparked and started smoking on one tiny spot on the side. I was trying to be as gentle as possible, but nonetheless I managed to penetrate the cheap coating and caused a short. It seems to be functioning normally despite this. Another issue I had: When heating the back cover a second time, I left it too long and the plastic warped. Now I just have to hope the glue is strong enough once it cures to never peel away from the board inside. Another issue that does not necessarily apply elsewhere: There is a gap between the screen and the inside all the way around the edge. At the top, there used to be a little fake speaker grille in the middle. That's just a space now. I'm going to have to buy some silicone or something to fill it in, or else a tiny splash of water would certainly ruin it. • @Projectlalo
      @Projectlalo  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah the back cover is pretty trash on these.
      BUT
      That's no excuse for a repair company to hand your phone back in that condition.
      I recommend using the glue I listed in the description. It works really well.
      Just run a tiny bead of glue all around the edge of the phone then around the camera.
      Use something to clamp it down when you put the cover back on.
      Be careful what you use as claps you don't want to break the screen again.
      But I'd for sure clamp the corners down with something since you said there coming up.
      There will probably be a bit of glue seeping out but that's ok.
      Just let it cure for a few hours and then you can remove the clamps and clean up the excess glue with a rag and some rubbing alcohol. 👍
