Pro tip: I like pouring the tallow into a mini silicon ice cube tray, let it solidify in the freezer, then pop them out into a container or zip lock bag. This way, I get exactly 1tsp of tallow for every cube, and it's super easy to use! It's a little bit of extra work at first but worth it. I never liked having to spoon it out from a jar.
Pro tip: Render the tallow outside in your bbq so that your whole house doesn't smell, unless you want it to!

I have a crockpot full of chopped deer fat right now. My first time butchering and my first time rendering tallow. I am thankful for CZcams University lol!
I’ve watched a few videos and decided to do the wet method using water. I’m using the crockpot and will have it on low overnight.
I quit eating plants including plant oils earlier this year as plants just give me so many symptoms. I love my meats, eggs, and animal fats and have learned how to pressure can a few months ago and now learning to hunt, butcher, and render tallow.
Next time I will be sure to save the visceral fat but it was way too cold when we got the deer to mess around with the organs out in that cold wind. I did save the heart tho as that is my favorite part to eat (and is loaded with the nutrients that my body craves).
    Thanks for this video!

So something I’ve seen others do (I haven’t had the chance to render tallow yet) is add a little water to the mix. The tallow cools and leaves the water at the bottom, and most of the impurities end up in the water. I feel like that makes sense cause then you don’t have to scrape off as much of your tallow.

A course grind works well if you have a counter top grinder. My grass fed tallow from trim fat is very yellow, it doesn't look like she is getting true grass suet. I pour mine through a milk filter. Tallow is done when it stops bubbling, that means the water is all cooked out.

The two together have caused critical health issues that nearly killed me several times a few years ago and has left me chronically ill.

yes! That is the ideal strain method. My parents just don't have one at their house. We have our sourdough on "pause" - our guts don't like starches too much right now with the mold stuff going on. But working on fixing some gut issues and looking forward to enjoying some homemade sourdough again in the future! The einkorn was definitely more "dense", but it is a traditional/ancient grain that has some more nutrients!

I’ve made Tallow before in a frying pan in a much shorter amount of time, although I have a feeling it was muscle fat rather than true Suet from around the kidneys. What are the advantages of doing it this long way in the crockpot?

To be honest I am not sure! I think you can burn the “impurities” in the fat a lot easier with that method.

every time i make tallow it smells like a rotting corpse. Ive used suet from multiple sources...grocery store, butcher, the latest was the fat from the 1/2 grassfed cow i bought this past november. They all smelled the exact same, nasty. i did it the same way you did in the crock pot.

What do you think about using it to stir fry shrimp? Or just stir fry in general? Is it good for lower heat applications? I've seen its used in baking so I would assume so. Would the beef flavor throw off shrimp/seafood? I wanna buy some, it's very cheap where I just moved to. My two uses would be to quick fry shrimp with a bit of cornstarch, and to stir fry chicken and veggies.
