    Thanks for the info Brandon, that’s why I bought a Champion 7500 watt surge and a 6000 watt run with only manual start. And I also bought a 30 amp Generlink that fits in my meter base and my meter head fits into it and my generator plugs into the bottom of the Generlink and you can run your whole house from that by choosing which breakers you want to use as long as you don’t overload the generator the Generlink is a automatic transfer switch when the generator is running it won’t let it back feed the power line and endanger line workers and my utility company installed it for 30 dollars. It’s the easiest and simplest way to use a portable generator for your house

    Saved my butt!! Thanks jumped it and actually just connected the jumper
    Cables and it worked. Car was off. Thank you! Read the instructions cover to cover noticed in trouble shooter they mention you must have a connected battery for even a pull start.

    good heads up about that model. where I am I see tons of whole house generac generator’s
    here, not heard much about them. I know you have to keep up on the P.M. for the units.
    great video thanks!

    Good idea to attempt to educate people on that particular gen set. We have a 1999 Cat 30 KW single phase with a Perkins 3-152 engine. Hard wired into our home. Start it every Saturday AM and put a load on it to exercise it. I got it used. But wouldn’t take a zillion dollars for it. My next project is to run a line to my shop to have power there when out. Enjoy your channel!!

    Generac makes great stuff. I wonder if the battery issue for starting is due to electronics that they needlessly put on them. I’ll keep my old one. It’s always starts one pull. Thanks for bringing this up as I’m sure other companies saying the same thing.

  • @scrotiemcboogerballs1981

    That sucks you would think if it’s got a pull start it would start using that with battery dead or charged on a jump pack it’s a good idea to spend a little more on a good one then getting some of those cheap ones they ain’t worth crap thanks for sharing

    You may not want to bash Generjunk so I'll do it for you. We had a big Generjunk stand by. Power was a Ford New Holland six cylinder diesel. The engine and generator unit was never a problem. It was all the auxiliary components. The engine alternators would self destruct about every 100 and upon shutdown, would lock up. The next time it started, the belts would cook. We had replaced seven alternators in 900 hours of operation at a cost of $400 a piece. The computer system would fail resulting in it not keeping time for the exercise cycle. Fuel lift pump failed several times. Sensor failures. The final straw was the injector pump failure. We had enough sold it and replaced it with a Kohler Deere powered unit. My boss took a picture of the Generjunk sitting on the and the Kohler sitting in it's place a comment. "We finally solved our failure to start problem." He sent the picture to Generjunk customer service. Now you would think he would have gotten a response from them. Nope. You're their customer until you pay them, then your a prisoner.

  • @jazzerbyte
    @jazzerbyte Před rokem +5

    Yes - not starting with the recoil pull seems to be a huge oversight, considering the purpose is operation when power is out.

    • @PointBlankCHL
      @PointBlankCHL Před 11 měsíci +5

      It's NOT an oversight. This generator is "fuel injected" so the battery has to have some juice for the injectors to work. This is NOT your standard carburetor generator...

    • @MrSpeedyNYC
      @MrSpeedyNYC Před 7 měsíci

      @@PointBlankCHLExactly. If the AC trickle charger is left plugged in as instructed, when the power goes out the battery will be charged and the generator is good to go.

    I guess you need 12v to power the high pressure pump and open and close the injector. I guess this is a epa thing for lower emissions, but I can see the advantage of no clogged float bowls or hi speed jets. I’ll just keep my 12 year old Generac and run it out of gas when I’m done,

  • @bronzjohnson2362
    @bronzjohnson2362 Před 3 měsíci +2

    Correct me if im wrong but my research has my thinking that as a EFI engine, it needs a fuel pump to supply fuel, thats why it needs to be fully charged battery, once it’s running the generator power takes over and supplies power to the fuel pump.

    • @dirtgrainsteel
      @dirtgrainsteel  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Correct but my thoughts are shouldn't a back up generator have the ability to be started if zero electricity is available like a none efi generator I guess where I was going with this video was to warn people to keep these charged or keep a jump pack handy not saying it's a bad generator to have just keep a eye on it so it's ready when you need it

  • @annealing9271
    @annealing9271 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Couple of years ago I bought one of these XT8500EFI generators from Costco. My worst purchase ever !! When you have a power outage and you need it, it's not there (so to speak) First the manual says to plug the charger in only once every 3 months. (2) There is something in the control mother board that draws
    about .04 amps from the battery battery all the time, even when the key is in the off position, so this will drain the battery over time. (3) If the battery is not at full voltage (less than 12+ volts) the generator will not run. The fuel pump will work, the electric start will turn over, but she won't run, even with the pull cord..
    My fix for this MESS was to replace the battery with a motorcycle battery with and add an on/off switch in series with the + power cable. Works well now.
    In truth, to have a battery power a fuel pump in a generator is/was just a bad idea. what were they thinking.

    What could possibly be the logic behind having it not being able to be started with the rope start with a low battery,, that is nonsense..
    And I'll tell you right now that carbon monoxide sensing circuit that's the first thing that's gonna leave you without a generator,, the smarter they get the stupider they get ...
    It's gonna break it's gonna fail and it'll brick it,,,,,, for your safety..

  • @jackbraithwaite8345
    @jackbraithwaite8345 Před rokem +1

    I'm not sure it's a Generac issue as much as it is an issue with the engine manufacturer. Just like like any tractor, car or truck, it requires a charged battery to light the ignition. A motorcycle will not start with a dead battery if you use the kick start from now till Christmas. It needs voltage to fire the ignition. So you can't blame it for not starting because it has a recoil starter. Just my 2 cents.

  • @strugglebear
    @strugglebear Před měsícem

    Yeah but is it try to there over with a low battery? Does it give a fault light when the battery is the issue. I appreciate the information but I don’t know how to use the example in this video to relate it to my generator without further information

  • @carperdiem8754

  • @SurvivalFarms
    @SurvivalFarms Před 9 měsíci

    Is that the only issue they have? Maybe why they are low cost for efi. I will just use a jump box.

  • @elg4722
    @elg4722 Před 6 měsíci

    This particular generator also will not start if there is less than required viltage for the ignition circuit when using the electric starter. The electric starter may be able to turn the engine over, but drops voltage too low to fire the ignition. You will get a warning light if this condition happens. If this happens, turn the ignition on and pull the recoil. Do this before you run the battery so low that even a recoil start won't get it to run.

  • @imdeplorable2241

    If you have a FULLY CHARGED battery, why would you need a manual pull start? In case the starter has failed?
    Doesn't matter to me now. After reading that label, I definitely will not buy a Generac.
    Thanks for the heads-up.👍

  • @chetmyers7041

    Grandpa needs to SELL the EFI model and buy a manual/electric start model. Buy a 15 foot set of jumper cables and hardwire it to the genset. He can always jump from truck battery. Perhaps grandpa can find a place to store the generator that is not hidden behind a 300 pound panel door.

  • @PointBlankCHL
    @PointBlankCHL Před 11 měsíci +1

    This is a fuel injected generator NOT a generator with a carburetor. Knowing that, I know that the battery needs to have juice for the fuel injectors to work. Just pulling the "cord" will NOT operate the fuel injectors....I think maybe they did not understand what type of generator they purchased.....

    • @shawnmcewen1718
      @shawnmcewen1718 Před 10 měsíci

      Exactly! I was just about to write this! From what I gather is the control panel draws a small amount of battery power all the time when off. They might have fixed it with new versions coming out, not sure.

  • @2packs4sure
    @2packs4sure Před rokem +1

    I've learned why it will not start with a low battery with the rope and that is because that particular unit is electronic fuel injection so it's GOT TO have full power to fire the injectors and run the engine computer...
    I would pass on a fuel injected portable generator,, that's overkill, UNRELIABLE,, and very expensive..

  • @AndrewBrill1
    @AndrewBrill1 Před 10 měsíci

    EFI right in the name..with Electronic Fuel injection..well there are others...without EFI..but the point is you gotta make a spark and inject fuel with some amount of voltage...yup it's sad you need to start it...but I don't think there's magic here. It is sad though when you find out after the fact..I am very sympathetic for that...but yah..a jumper pack will work just fine.

    Got the same generator had it for two years runs without a flaw. The only problem like you said for some odd reason if you left it for even one month your battery will die. There is a draw I believe for the fuel injector. There is no carburetor on this generator that’s why it will not start as soon as you turn the key Fuel flow to the engine what I did on mine I ran an alligator clip double end to where the bolts connect to the battery when I’m done with the generator, I undo the alligator clips make sure they’re thicker wires with the alligator clips. You do not want to get some Cincy thin ones your battery will stay charged reason when you try to start it there’s no fuel going to the engine because it is fuel injected the great thing about it is you will never have to worry about carburetor problems. Alligator clips solved my whole problems, and I do charge it once a year trickle but it’s pretty much stays charged just a little bit of the trickle charge for 24 hours and you’re good to go
