I was a Canadian trucker and did alot of off road stuff in northern BC to oil rigs in the 1960's and 70's. I was also an outdoor person and if I would have broke down, knew how to survive. I watch what these people do, hanging from a chopper, or swimming in ice cold water, trying to get to impossible spots, and swinging around over ships in snow storms, just blows me away. I thought to myself they are either insane, or brave or both. No matter which, I have nothing but respect for them. It takes a super person to do what they do.
@donaldshula2413 What you think I am, really doesn't matter. With a comment like yours, people will have figured out you've done nothing worth while in your dismal lifetime.
@donaldshula2413 get wrecked xD
I can tell I've watched way too many of these when I recognize the crew by their voices. Love this show!
Just found this channel amazing coast guard's my fav thing to watch now. Such hero's

A camera on the basket might be interesting. I like the moments of eagles, whales, and scenery.

The ppl in the Coast Guard are very good and efficient at their job. Saving the ppl in Alaska when trouble strikes, is all that matters.

Perforated bowel is subject to peritonitis which can kill you in hours let alone a day or two. That is your main concern till that bowel is sutured shut. Most likely he would be transported with antibiotics hanging for the IV.
Arrrrrrrrrrr, “Higher Level of Care”! Arrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Rescue teams everywhere are amazing. I know I couldn't do that job, I fell apart after helping with an accident. Those brave people who can do it more than twice in a lifetime definitely deserve better treatment! They do a good job of making it look easy, but it isn't. Thank goodness someone can handle that kind of work! The ER people are very important, too, I wasn't trying to leave them out of the credit, but they weren't really part of this video. I am not less grateful to them, just trying a tiny bit to keep to the subject, only now I feel I shorted them...
*Edit: that one dude needs to get out more or read more, something. Alaska isn't the only damp state. Even Arizona has some damp spots. There is a very good reason "fire starting kits" exist. Better if you know how to make your own, but even the store bought stuff is better than an empty pocket. I would not suggest anyone go into a rural area with out one, even if they never need it in 50 or more years. At the very least, know how to make one. Trying to figure it out in an emergency is not a good time to start. Please do learn, because death doesn't seem to be much fun.
I know this is an old episode but I suffer from chronic bronchitis and feel his pain. I've also had pericarditis which means inflammation containing my heart sack. I have issues with my heart since then unfortunately.
I’m hooked on this show as well
Ffs I'm on a 2day binge with this shit lolol couldn't praise these boys high enough
Cost Guard Alaska you do a awesome job at saying lives 🎉😅😅😅😅😅
as a veteran guards men my self BRAVO!!!!!!! how can i get a hold of David Call
I guess what amazesmeis the large number of vessel failures..Imean comeon! It's Alaska.. DO....YOUR...MAINTENANCE
You guys are super hero’s. I wanna do a documentary for Australian TV if Rupert Murdoch will let me.
Alaska weather is insane. When I was in the USAF they sent me out to Shemya to replace a TACAN. as we landed I swear I could have just stepped out of the plane and walked. Pilot said he set it down with 37 knots of ground speed.
Who else thought them men looked like tin man or was that just me
❤ To these Guys 😊
You GOTTA have your survivalgear ON YOU R PERSON. If it is on your boat or your horse..You won;thaveit whenyou need it
*CORPSMAN!*
🔥 show 👍
Albuterol is good stuff. I can personally attest.
Those guys who had their boat float away essentially got an extra night in the cabin and a free helicopter ride out after their hunting trip, they were probably happier to have the heli than the boat, lol.
Weather cleared up very quickly
W contractors ong tho
Why do paramedics and other medical professionals think that if they look nervous it would be worse for the patient? I have a severe allergic disorder, and have insanely frequent anaphylaxis. It drives me nuts when they don't seem to be responding to my urgency. I have had SO many experiences where they under-estimate how sick I am, and have gone into cardiac arrest because an ER doctor didn't believe me. If I'm telling you that I am going to be unconscious in under a minute, and they respond "Everything is going to be fine." is the MOST anxiety provoking thing- it means you're not hearing me. I want to know what my BP is, my O2 stats, etc etc. Patients are more and more informed, and using placating tones makes us crazy. How about "I hear ya, I'm on top of it. What would you normally do next?" Or "I see your BP is thru the roof, is that normal for you?" Because I KNOW that if my BP is 240/145 you're worried (or utterly incompetent, but that's rare). Patients want to know if they should be worried, and if you're worried enough. And people aren't idiots- we can see if your affect and your actions don't match, and it just makes things confusing as hell. I don't want you to be calm, I want you to be in control. And never, ever, lie to me. Don't tell me i am going to be okay if I'm not.
So I was playing wow and at 36:09 I glanced up and I swear I thought that was Dr.Phill for a sec XD
As a USCG reserve Maritime Enforcement Specialist, if I volunteered to deploy, what are the chances of getting Alaska as an option?
First guy definitely has the rona. Shortness of breath and the chills.
He apparently time traveled there from 2019-2020 back to around 2011-2012 then lol
I barely go to my local supermarket without my PLB.. How in the World these people are running around in the middle of absolutely nowhere without one is beyond me.. $300 people and so could easily save your life!
19:24 oh shit I thought he was meaning 23 people were dead in the water not that the ship was dead in the water. That tripped me out
I thought I knew that boat, yeah Coastal Transportation they have like 5 boats. They just run cargo.
Great show. Question for anyone who knows: I see that Adak is some 1600 miles from their base at Sitka - about the same distance as LA! Did they fly the helo to Adak in the C-130 or island hop all the way out there? There were a few shots of the C-130 at Adak but the sequence was unclear.
pretty common to put helos in cargo planes for delivery.
During the planning, right after one of the pilots asked the ODO for weather, the scene switches to a map. There's several points and ETA on there, plus they mention "two or three" fuel stops, so my guess is they ferried from stop to stop, maybe with replacement crew in back to keep it moving, while the 130 went ahead with the flight crew for the actual evolution that started out of Adak.
I can't remember which episode, but they actually showed one long distance rescue doing it that way.
Fireinstructor doesn;tknowwhat he is doing. Yo PREP your kindling by size BEFORE you strike your kindling...Send that guy to SERE
Coast Guard Stations
Super tamely
26:48 - remind me to NEVER be stranded with *that guy* . Holy sh*t we get it, it’s survival training but does it have to be miserable morale killing co-worker training as well??????? 🤷🏻♀️🙄😵💫
(also ps- “some degree of *uncomfort* “ !?????? Ok wow not a real word, but no, absolutely trust this guy with your life lol)
stranded weasel
Their eyes always look so tired :-(
Just curious I wonder if the rifles were cleared?
So the coast guard is Alaska's 911 basically
How does the health care / insurance system work with these cases? Do people get charged for rescues?
For starters it's not a healthcare, insurance issue. the only think that usually costs money is if people need medical attention, then you see your typical medical bill costs. But for the rescue itself, nobody is billed for it. They might get billed for leaving their vessel at sea, but for the rescue itself, it's considered a public service.
Yes 😊
Hence thename "DeadMan's Bay"
why wasa that gentelman out at sea in his condition, he put everyones life at risk
Go Coast guard. You make this Country a safe place. For those of you who disagree. Go to HELL. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Roger that.
When I am flying, I file a flight plan so if something goes wronginflight I canaskfor radar followingandif Igo down, they have a place to look. Is there a meansto file a "boat plan" with the CG?
Pucker factor 😂
Why didn’t the boat drop anchor?
what was wrong with the lighthouse tho???
Mike is 60??
He is a 60 pilot. MH-60T Jayhawk is the helo
Krystyna McRoberts. OMG I will marry you some day.
18:53 ‘Merica
How many Coast Guard have in Alaska?
350 brave men and women on active service for the Alaska region ❤🏴👍
Looks cold
The USCG rescue swimmer role lacks utility. In Australasia the top tier civilian rescue helicopter services have intensive care paramedics (far more qualified and experienced than air medical corpsman) and which are also rescue swimmers.
What Is There To Dislike About This Video 🤦🏼♂️
Old CG joke, told by my late-ex USN corpsman, who had great respect for Coasties:
How do you tell the difference between a Navy vessel & a CG vessel?
If a CG vessel sinks, you get to walk to shore.
(I know, I know, it's a very outdated joke!)
That big vessel they went to help was an illegal whale-Ing ship
If that were true they wouldn’t have flown out there to help them. Key word in your claim is “illegal” 🙄😵💫
Z
Too much redundancy. I have to believe that the shows producers think their audience has a very low attention span.
This show was made for tv so after 5 minutes of ads it’s nice to be reminded of what was happening before the break
I’ve gotten pretty good at tapping/fast forwarding through the redundant parts. It’s made for tv with commercials and recaps for people just tuning in after every commercial
I the USAF we flew into Shemya..C130 at 9 knots ground speed 95% on the turbines. IN a helicopter it woul dbe impossible. We taxied into the wind to the very end of the runway and tied down because turning at any angle tothe wind would probably rolled the aircraft.Alaska is a BITCH
hunters out murdering animals, should leave the fookers out there
@Neil Siebenthal easy an animal has just a much right too life as a human, just because we can speak doesn't give us the right to kill
Everyone has the right to survive. It is survival of the fittest after all.
@@MrDbradie they are not surviving, they are just sport hunting, but by your logic, every creature has a right to survive
Boring!!
