Home Made car body frame machine, Frame rack, Collision Repair Equipment, Universal DIY Jig

- I recently built a an auto body Frame pulling machine. I've been wanting my own frame rack for a while now, because every time I get a vehicle that requires some sort of pull, whether it's a frame pull or just having some thicker sheet metal that I wouldn't be able to handle with just my bare hands, I have to resort to having to rent a frame rack at some body shop for a day or so, but most shops don't like to rent out their Chassis repair equipment, and a lot of time you have to wait a while before you can even get onto a frame machine, because they are normally in use. And I didn't really want to buy a frame rack because most of them are very large and super heavy and on top of that, a used car bench will set you back 5-6K. So that option was a deal breaker for me, that's when I decided just to put together my own setup that was portable also I saved a bunch of money in the process.

Great job man. I considered welding up a simple setup for vector pulling for a long time, but I eventually tripped across a used Dataliner 80, and saved myself the time doing it. I'll probably still fab up some universal jig fixtures for times when sill clamps won't work. In any case, I'm thrilled to finally see someone put a DIY video up for this kind of thing. I think that rig will serve you well.
You'll like save your self mad time and money buying a Data-liner from the 80,s than building one..
a caroliner frame rack designer took 10 years to achieve this same design an you took a few days to take over his prime idea and even mastered it...!! genius indeed.!!!! hopefully it wont become a nightmare finding a spot for it when not in use.
Thanks for a compliment bro, one of the main points for my design was that I could stand the base of a rack on it's side when not in use, thus reducing it's footprint to almost nothing. Something I wouldn't have been able to do with caroliner without the use of forklift, since caroliner weighs quiet a bit more.
@@fix206 are you nuts mate those fucking frame racks weigh as much as a fucking train mate...i work at this bodyshop were you gotta carried those racks all over the shop just to either use it or store it but good thing yours are lighter then all of them
I'm certain that a caroliner is much sturdier/capable/heavier duty rack then mine, with much thicker gauge metal. It would be a great rack for a shop, but all I got right now is my driveway. Cant even imagine pushing the caroliner around on an uneven ground :)
Boa noite amigo vc poderia me disponibilizar as medidas pois achei muito top e preciso de fabricar um desse obrigado@@fix206
I can't wait for the pulling vid. Excellent work for having to do everything outside. Those Harbor Freight welders are a game changer! These new ones are not junk. Thanks for the time you put into filming.
Pulling vid will be here real soon. I do enjoy working outside, but since I live in Seattle I have to put work on pause a lot due to rain :( As far as the welder goes, this thing is a soldier, I am very impressed with it. Originally bought it thinking that I'd be returning it since it is a "Harbor Freight welder", however after putting it through a trial run, I decided that this thing is definitely a keeper, It worked GREAT and earned it's keep :)
Outstanding job man. You can really handle that plazma cutter and your welding is great too. Its just a well built piece of equipment and I think it will do the job you built it for.
Thank you for a comment... I'll have a video of the frame rack in action out here pretty soon... Stay tuned... Cheers !
I think that your frame pulling stuff will be just as strong or even stronger than a factory made one. You did such a great job on this! Absolutely incredible! The workmanship is of the highest quality. You really have alot of talent. Well done!
I do appreciate the compliment 👍 I honestly don't see anything snapping or breaking on this frame rack, the one pull that I did with it so far went great, the rack had passed the test with flying colors. I'm sure this thing will serve me well for years to come
@@fix206 Everything in Europe is made stronger than US things, which is not problem and thats why you'll use that machine for lifetime
Brilliant use of the plasma cutter! Really made it look a million dollars 👍
Thanks for sharing 😎😎
Thanks man, I wouldn't have been able to do this project without a plasma cutter,. it was a godsend... Thank you for comment 👍
Fix206 What plasma cutter are you using here?
Oh My Goodness.. Never could I imagine building my own frame machine I love m car-o liner but what an amazing job this turned out to be!
Thanks man ! I'm too cheap to buy a car-oliner, I figured I could throw together something similar, and it worked !! :)
Even if it has some unforeseen problems you will quickly rebound from it and solve the problem that was an inspirational build I'm proud of you and your drive to get a machine like that even if you had to build it yourself great video
After doing a few frame pulls this thing is hold up like a champ. No issues at all, but as you've said, if any issues will arise I'll be able to quickly solve them
I have used a Car O Liner frame rack in the past and it’s a good set up, as long as your welds will hold you should be in good shape. 👍
I turned my welder up to the max, I used dual shield welding wire for a deeper penetration and I also did double pass on my welds to reinforce them even more.
Great Job, you’re skilled man, working on the floor.
Nice work- thanks for sharing. If anyone plan to build one of these - consider making the rack lighter by welding material to the tower to fit the rack dimension instead of expanding the rack to fit the tower dimension.
A big greeting, gentleman, and a thousand congratulations on your good work.
I think your idea has been good and with patience, effort and detail you have achieved a very efficient tool.
An artisan work of the few that exist today.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thank you very much my friend !
i'm impressed. well done. it looks beefy. i don't think it's gonna break...
Thank you!!
Woow, Excelent, I need 1 to my Body Shop, congratulations buen amigo.
Thank you amigo
Your welding technique is second to none. Rack looks GREAT 👍
Thanks Bruce, I am quite certain that with the right guidance after about an hour or two of practice most folks can lay down a decent looking bead. The rack did turn out great, I already got a few vehicles straightened out on it, this thing is a champ :-)
You built that right as rain,it's not going anywhere but where you want it to.good job!!
Thank you for a comment, I've already did a frame pull using this frame rack and it passed the test with flying colors...I 'll have a video of that pull here pretty soon. Cheers !
I will never be able to build that myself, but man that was entertaining watching you build it. Very talented sir!
Thanks Drew !! I'm glad you've liked the vid, don't think I'm all that talented, I was just determined to make that damn thing and my persistence payed off :))))
*What do I think? You're a mf'ing genius. Make it so you can disassemble it into the trunk of a Corolla dragging on it's shocks and you'll be a billionaire.*
It turned out very nice, looks like a professional frame machine. It’ll work very well on unibody cars and suv’s, frame work will be dependent on the capacity of the ram but I think the frame work that you made will hold up no problem!
I already did a frame pull with it and everything held up like a champ... That ram is rated for a lot more then the frame deck can handle I'm sure :) A vid of the frame rack in action will be out in couple of days
bet you could build a few and make yourself cash!
I was using a mk5 caroliner body jig on an insurance production line at the age of 17, fantastic bit of kit!
That's what I used for an inspiration :-)
You did an awesome job on the whole thing! Those with the negative comments would never attempt or complete a task like this.
Danilo I appreciate the comment brother... There are for sure plenty of trash talkers online, I don't let them get me down though 👍
Very impressive. Youve got some mad skills Sir !
Thanks man 👍
That was amazing man! Wow I've been looking into a frame machine for a while but even the smallest bought setup is pretty pricy, and this hadn't even crossed my mind. After watching this im pretty stoked. My motivation is out the roof rightnow. Those plates you welded on the sides should be enough reinforcement and if i remember right welds should stand 60k psi or so you should be good man.
I did a double pass on all of the welds, so this thing will hold ! I'm glad my vid is getting you motivated, at first I thought about buying a portable frame rack but everything was just too expensive so I decided to build one instead. altogether I spent 700-800 on eve thing, Are you thing about building one now?
@@fix206 HELL YESS!!
Great job. Can't wait to see you testing it.
That vid will be out real soon👍
My men ! That’s stronger than original! Will last forever! Now boys let take some tool and do your own body frame! Good luck to everyone!
It did come out to be pretty strong... Thank you
This will work great for a front or rear end wreck, but I think you should have welded the 1/2" plate to the boom instead of on the one end of the frame. That way it can be used on the sides as well. A and B pillars take hits and need to be pulled as well!! Otherwise, great job!!
I actually have another half inch piece of plate that is loose, meaning if I'll clamp the tower to the side of the deck then I'll just put down that loose piece on top of the frame tube where ever the tower would have to be placed at any given time, the plate that I welded on partially tied front tube to the side ones thus giving the front of the rack a bit more rigidity, since that area will likely see most action.
Great Job Fix206 in fact so good I subscribe :>)
Thank you sir, promise I won't dissapoint !!
Really entertaining to watch. I wish my kids would watch this type of stuff than rather than useless video's that don't teach them how stuff works. I'm also fascinated by the tools used.
I told my teenage son sometime ago not to waist his time online... I said that if he'll be watching videos on youtube, they better be educational, he's been following my advise for most part :-)
Great job man ..... lots of planning to go just off a picture of a auto body pulling rack.... admiring your engineering skills there!! I bet this saved you a good chunk of change!!! Thx for sharing it with us!!😊
Can't tell you how many hours I spent thinking about how I;m going to go about making any given component of this frame rack. Planned it all out in my head as you've said just going off the pics of other racks i'v found online... I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I'll have a vid of the rack in action uploaded tomorrow. 👍
Freaking awesome
Love the comment bro !!!
It is stronger that a factory one , u need to put plates for side pulling also , if you need to pull a door pillar ...
I do have a loose plate that i would just place on top of the square tube, so this way I can place the tower just about anywhere.
sure ?
I dont think soo... I have factory frame and trust me its lot of metal. But if you dont fix suv jeeps that's enough.
@kosmosleha you mean full body frame set? If yes, you should try to find second hand. Try in google: car-o-liner, blackhawk, unicar, car bench, celette.
It will hold! Nice work..
It sure will hold !! Thanks man !!
love it ! can't wait for a real frame pull!
That vid is coming soon 👍
I think that heavy frame needs V12 engine!
I bet it'll handle it to :)
Why not weld the 1/2“ plate into the tower? Doing that, the tower would fit everywhere on the frame!
I explained why I did things the way I did them in the follow up video where I actually used the frame rack to make the first frame pull... here is the link to that video czcams.com/video/S9A6gLV9EbE/video.html
I build a frame pulling machine, including frame tower two years ago, it works amazing.
That's awesome !! Definitely a very useful tool to have !
Congratulations you have done amazing work .
Thanks you Jeff 👍👍
Is it possible to purchase the plans from you??? I an in Western Australia. Cheers
A few people asked that same same already, as of now I don't have anything, but later on I might create a PDF file with drawings or sizes and such. Stay tuned :)
Dave mate why don't u import one from China Alibaba check they have really good stuff.
@@zak7990 made in china crap breaks soon after purchase
@@gregh7457 Too right, why would trust chineesium steel over quality steel.
Rewatch the video and make notes, that's what I do with many yt vid, then modify to your own needs.
Very good work sir. My congratulations on a piece of equipment that can help put people's cars back together. There's no way that thing is coming apart.
Thank you Pete, I am definitely happy with the way it turned out 👍
Bravo, Dam Good Job, Best Fabrication Work
Ive Ever Seen,
Thanks bother !
Dude that is fantastic work. For some reason I was skeptical of a guy wearing sneakers welding in the snow but man your welds are great and the design looks perfect.
Thanks David, I'm really happy with the way everything turned out, I put the rack through a trial run and it did great ! Here is the video of the rack in action czcams.com/video/S9A6gLV9EbE/video.html
I also want to build a little add-on to this setup to get the car on and off the rack much easier, I'll do a video on that some time later...
That's an impressive build.
Former body man , for the cars that you will be pulling that rack will hold together no problem . I would recommend that you put a pressure gauge in the hydraulic line so you can see what the load is . Like your rocker clamps, great idea . I commend your fabrication work . When I was doing it I had a parameter track buried in the floor .
Thanks for the tip on the gauge and a positive comment !! Cheers...
Отличная работа! У Вас руки золотые.
Спасибио Николай, благодарю за комент
Good job. A lot of hard work thou, amazing reasults.
Thank you!
Dear sir, if you are afraid that it will bend, you must rest assured, before that it will bend the vehicle you are repairing will break. Rest assured that it is very well done. A big greeting from Buenos Aires.
Yes, you are right, after using it to make a frame pull everything worked out just perfect. No bending or breaking anywhere... I actually made a vide of that frame pull right here czcams.com/video/S9A6gLV9EbE/video.html
Mind blowing job man, that skills of welding, then lathe was masterclasss
Sir, thank you for such a great comment !!!
I 'm Martin from Benin Republic,guy cheer up,it's fantastic
Thank you Martin
Nice job when I'm up and running I'm going to make one too
You should totally do it... let me know if you'll have any questions along the way, I'd be happy to help you out with advise and what not...
Fantastic Build
Thank you !!
That is totally awesome great job nice frame straightener
Thank you! Cheers!
I find myself working with metal more often. This was an inspiration, i am going to purchase a plasma cutter and mig welder
I love hearing this sort of stuff. I never thought I'd have the power to inspire people, but when I read comments such as yours that inspires me to do even better and put out higher quality content.. Thank you !!
Amazing build i lov watching people make stuff i learned a lot with cutting straight lines and I'll watch all your content well done.justsayin!
Thank you Clinton... Promise I won't disappoint 👍
You are a genius man , congratulations....
I am far from genius, but I do appreciate the comment !!!
Great, looks great. Thanks
Great workmanship
Thank you Sir !!!
Very strong frame well done
Thank you Samir... It held up great when I pulled 2 frame rails at once...
Really helpful , I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks all the way from South Africa

Excellent, thank you for sharing.
My pleasure!
Great job you made it look easy
It wasn't too bad... But I did spend ALOT of time planning the whole thing out in my head...
Excellent job man, very professional.
Thank you Keith, I appreciate the comment 👍
Brilliant work.
Thank you brother !!!
Liked this post well enough that I will share it with some other metal heads. I have never used one like that as the others were store bought junk that bent before frame give a bit..... I liked and subbed
Thank you for a sub, sharing and a comment. Promise I won't disappoint :)
Wow! You built that? such a fantastic job you did! Well done!
Thank you... I really appreciate your comment ! Cheers
That's awesome. Real mans work in a Real world environment. Not a $200.000 shop with massive fabrication tables. Out in the slushy shitty cold and damp, in the laneway. Snow on the bloody ground and you're out in it making things happen. Good on you bud. No doubt just trying to make a few extra $ for you and your family. Good job lad,and best of luck and success to you.
Thanks brother... Yeah, I just don't have the funds to buy everything that I want, so I just build it instead. Rain, snow or shine I'm out there on the grind.
when i was in the Trade our Company bought one of these from CAR BENCH ,1972 they called it the Car Bench , it came with 3 or 4 different jigs for different makes and Models of cars, you could hire extra jigs for lining up chassis holes and securing cars in place to allow pulling on crumpled zones it also raised and lowered like a normal car ramp but left the wheel beds on the ground
Yeah these things had been around for a while, I see that mostly European frame racks are more portable in size versus full size racks that we have here in the states... But since I'm not a shop and I am tight on space I modeled my rack based on the European designs and I'm happy with the way everything turned out... so far so good :)
this is a super mad build!!!! I Love it..i gotta build me one of those!! looks way better and more solid than the store bought ones..ya gotta do a vid with it in action!!
Working on that vid right not... Should be out in a couple of days !
I think you did a dam fine job . I have made things like this before and they worked but yours is better built and will work fine.
Thank you Donald, I've looked at a bunch of pictures of different frame racks online and based on that I've created an idea of what I've wanted... I think it turned out great, already proved itself on a couple of pulls including one frame pull. There is a video of the rack in action right here czcams.com/video/S9A6gLV9EbE/video.html
Awesome job
Thanks man, I just looked though your CZcams playlists and one of them contains a lot of homemade frame racks, funny thing is I've watched a lot of those same vedios to get my inspiration from. And a lot and that's where a lot of ideas for different parts of my frame rack came from :) Cheers!!!
Omg this looks amazing bud, collision tech here, you just saved your self over 15k$ easy. I want one now. 😩
Thanks man !! Im very happy with the way it turned out. I did put a good bit of time into building it, but all in all I'm about $700-800 into all of the materials. Plus I wanted to make it portable enough to where I could put it up on it's side against the wall once I'm done with it. And it worked out just the way I wanted to !!
Really nice frame machine! Great job!
Thank you Sir !!!
Just subbed this was something i have been looking for on youtube!!! Keep the vids coming!
I hope this vid was helpful to you. I'll have a vid out of this thing in action hopefully sometime tomorrow 👍

Thank you! Will do!
Bravo,Bravo.....very nice tools
Thank you very much!
Great job . I owned several brands of frame machines big racks. And the caroliner portable system is a good design for almost any vehicle. Only thing I would have done would have played the tower with that steel plate to make up the thickness. Instead of the channel. Great job .
I figured by adding a channel that it would give the base a bit more rigidity.
