Tiffany Poon, age 16, won the First Prize and the The Faust Harrison Pianos Award for Best Performance of Romantic Piece at the Senior Division of Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition held in New York. This is one of the pieces she performed in the final round of the competition at Merkin Concert Hall on June 23, 2013.

She characterizes and has so much personality that she always makes music not just well trained hands . Always a joy to hear this rather popular Hadyn Sonata he wrote so many but there are 5 or 6 we always hearand the beautiful middle slow mov . is really Hadyn at his most communicative !

I wasn't expecting such clarity when I saw the "Steinway" on the side of the piano, but Ms Poon has shown that Haydn sonatas can be played successfully on a modern instrument.
I guess that's something to do with the way it was set up, but also because she's not making much (if any) use of the sostenuto pedal, which was invented almost 60 years after Haydn's death.

60 years, are you sure ? it has come to my knowledge that beethoven was one of haydn students, and i belive he was familiar with the sostenuto, if not, then i have to revisit most of the pieces i've played by those composers hahaha!
@@andresguillermoalvarezlope418 I believe you're thinking of the sustaining pedal (probably a knee-lever for most of Beethoven's life) which just lifts the dampers. On early pianos, there were separate sustaining functions for bass and treble ends of the keyboard. By "sostenuto" I was referring to the latch patented by Steinway, which keeps the damper up from the string(s) being played when the pedal is pressed, thus saving the pianist from holding the key down to avoid damping.

Tiffany, the first video of yours I saw on CZcams was the Scherzo No. 2 by Chopin. You was 11. Your talent was already evident at that time and since then has done nothing but grow and grow. I think your playing is close to perfection.

to play F major, wouldn't you have to hold all keys down at once: F, A, C and E?
Hi! The F Major Triad is spelled FAC and like all triads can be played blocked-playing all three notes together; broken- playing chord notes one after the other and it can be played as a rolled chord and in any order, even between cleffs; also may be played in Arpeggios as well as other ways. When you place the E with an F Major Triad you create a new 7th chord called F Major Seventh.

If you are asking about playing in the key if "F" or the foundational major or minor keys, I recommend studying "The Complete Book of Scales, Chords, Arpeggios & Cadences" in the Alfred's Basic Piano Library as well as studying in their Adult All In One Piano Course (Levels 1-3)😁

Another Haydn work killed by Steinway and Sons, way too harsh and metallic. Anything else please...an old upright would be better and technological leap forward on what it was actually written for.
