hello my car is a 2021 tesla model 3. would a 26 pin or 20 pin monitor fit me? which monitor should i buy? Thank you!
Don't own a Tesla, nor plan to own one but I LOVE aftermarket stuff like this that's actually add value to the car in a OEM look. Awesome stuff 🔥
Really nicely explained and demonstrated
Very nicely done! Professional job!
This is just fantastic. I have been looking for a video on how to install something like this, finally, this problem can be solved. Thank you!!
Wow, thats a must have for model 3 and y owners
Great job and not as boring inside
Your video should be the template for all the tutorial videos on CZcams! Awesome, thanks!
That’s a game changer , looks fantastic! Loved how careful you were with the install 👍
Great explanation! Been criticizing the absence of a instrument cluster in 3/Y ever since. I can't believe it is really necessary to install this yourself because the manufacturer just won't put instruments and CarPlay/Android Auto in the vehicle.
Nice to have the option now
The lack of a dashboard was one of my biggest complaints with the non-S/X Teslas and this addresses it very well. I had written them off but this makes them slightly more appealing. Only slightly since I am pretty sure the dashboard will stop working after a software update at some point, but still.
This is awesome!
Tesla model 3 and Y should have come with this as standard.
I was real close to order myself a model 3 last summer but after I had test drive in it I found it annoying not to have something in front of me showing the speed and some simple info.
Great video 👍
Thanks for sharing
It’s the reason I am waiting for the EV6. I have been using a heads up display for the last 10 years. Nice video and interesting product.
Rent one for 3 days you won't miss it
A test drive is probably not long enough because you get used to no screen in front of you real fast, like within a week of owning. I like this product though.
@@DarrellC. Agree. I actually like having nothing in front as you get a clearer view of the road. I also don't mind having the speedo off to the side. What I really do mind is not having Waze. Spotify and Tune In Radio are also better implemented in Android Auto than Tesla manages. Seriously tempted by one of these for that reason.
I like this but there are a number of HUD solutions out there which I think make more sense on the Model 3. Surprised it isn’t a factory option - it fits with the Tesla minamalistic aesthetic.
"that wasn't the easiest thing" is an understatement; I just walked away from my attempt for a minute to let my frustrations subsite (as well as back pain...)
That is cool and very well described, appreciate it
Thanks. They sold out pretty quickly but I hear they are getting replenished soon
Update : still love this screen best install I've done on my m3. Took my car to tesla service center and all the service reps were enthralled with it asking me all these questions. Get this thing it's great!
Just carplay alone makes this worth it. Is CarPlay communicated through bluetooth?
Yes the Tesla Bluetooth connection is one way to use it. Probably the best way. Otherwise there is a built-in speaker
Does the steering wheel block any parts of the screen from the driver's position?
@@Donslife seriously? I wanted to add this so I could get audio to the speakers without having to use crappy Bluetooth. Why does no video about this go into detail about this. Almost bought it but I can just Bluetooth from my phone. What a joke.
that helps the tesla a lot
Beautiful
At least yours came with instructions. Mine didn't and hopefully your video will help me somewhat.
Email me (info in the video description) and I can send you a screenshot of mine.
Really transforms the car! Way too bleak without it. Great add on.
Nice! This is one of the reasons I didn’t get a Tesla. Didn’t like no screen in front of me.
"It's Linux based so it's gonna be more stable than something maybe like Android". What? Linux is a kernel and Android is "based" on a modified version of the Linux kernel.
Android (Linux based) comes with more features and stuff to the point it is less secure, whereas this device runs directly on Linux making it more stable. No updating required. Just wire up and use.
Here is a good article outlining how Android and ‘raw’ Linux are different even though they share a kernel. www.lemmymorgan.com/why-is-linux-more-stable-than-android/
@@Donslife I don't know at what point people will realize that their lives aren't that special or important unless you're a high profile person. Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft, etc. all be my guest listening to my microphone while I drive and sing with my "beautiful" voice or curse at the idiots I encounter on the road every day. Do they tap into my GPS and know where I go grocery shopping? Or where I work!!?? OMG it's public on my facebook too for THE ENTIRE WORLD TO KNOW.
no no no no. kernels are natural things. I won't have you using nature words to refer to computer crap. And none of this "ecosystem" crap either
Yep free google maps with your mobile who needs a subscription
I think they should have come like that from factory...looking at Volvo, i see they also cheapest out on the EX30 and only installed a center screen, hopefully someone will create a dash screen for that one too, although i get how one more screen would add a lot of cost overall making them up the price on new cars in order to get good profit.
Don, you are my hero! I purchased the Hansshow 9" screen for my m3p and your video was the only one that properly pointed out the gray connector. the Chinglish instructions were so bad I couldn't make them out, but you pulled me over the finish line.
I am happy this helped you
@@Donslifehello my car is a 2021 tesla model 3. would a 26 pin or 20 pin monitor fit me? which monitor should i buy? Thank you!
Wasn’t that the hardest thing ever removing that and getting the new one back in?
this is by far the best looking device they made. do the other devices get a similar GUI patch? or is this for some reason unique to that manufacturer?
I can’t say for sure as this is the only one I have reviewed
That is a pretty amazing piece of kit, should be standard.
this looks much better than the one Evan Michiels installs NEW Tesla Instrument Display | Tesla Model Y⚡️Model 3 | An OEM Look❗️Install and Review
I’m still waiting for model 3’s to come down in pricing but if I were to get one, I think doing this install would be a must for me. I’ve always preferred the 2 screen setup of the model 2. Call me old fashion but I get a better read off on things if.I have gauges. I know being electric all anyone would really bother with is the digital readout, but not having a gauge is really bothersome. Can’t gauge speed accurately with just a digital readout.
I think these type of accessory will be flying off the shelves! 👍🏻
Thank you
Amazing video
Glad you enjoyed it!
love the analog speedo. Analog speedos better give you a sense of the acceleration
I have been following Tesla since the beginning. Elon's choice to omit the basic driving instruments in front of the driver would be a deal breaker in any decision to buy this vehicle. I am so pleased that there is now a great solution. This innovation is wonderful!
Nice video. I have just subscribed to your channel.
I am happy you liked the video
Which u pay extra after the overpaid vehicle GJ
@@romandoru8134 It’s a choice. You don’t “need” it. It’s just a nice addition.
It’s a pos. Glad Elon removed it
a lot of modern vehicles dont have an instrument cluster in front of the driver. there are a lot that have in centered on the dash. Same as the Tesla. its no difference.
Hi. I'm about to do mine. You should do the yoke too. Looks amazing with yoke and the carplay.
really nice
I agree it is a nice add on. Some other Teslas have a screen in the same place
Brilliant
Great video - I am moving on --> Ordered! - looks like a must have.
So close to 10k subs!!
Soooo close. Pretty much all this year too
Very nice
Great!!!
Wow! That's for me!
Awsome install, thanx for posting
No problem!
Hi, this looks amazing.
I was just wondering how is the view from the driver's position. Sorry if I missed this part, but I didn't see this angle in the video.
Does the steering wheel block any parts of the screen?
Thanks
It’s similar to most cars. Only when turning the screen can get partially blocked
I’ve owned a model 3 for 3yrs and it didn’t take long at all to get used to no front panel. That being said it’s nice to have options :)
That’s all the review is highlighting. Options some folks might see value in. 😊
Thanks for the great video! Just curious, when using carplay Waze or another navigation, does the sound come from internal speaker or from the Tesla sound system?
You can set it up either way. Internal speaker or pair with the Tesla’s Bluetooth Audio
I have owned a Tesla M3 for over 3 years now. I truly do not miss the binnacle at all. I am sure some people do. But no one I know that owns a Tesla has an issue with it. I also own a Lexus LS430. I have owned it for about 15 years now and there are features that I never used or either set to a preferred setting and never touched again. The only thing I wish the Tesla had that it does not are physical buttons for volume, A/C and wipers. And all of the media stuff you can either stream form you phone or stream form the car itself. If you want this thing go for it. I just see people referencing this as an issue so often. I really don't think it is as big a deal as it is made out to be.
Any worries with future tesla software release compatibility? Looks great! Would love to see extra stats too that isn't on the tesla gui.
Updates can be performed via the USB-C connection on the side.
Nice
For the Tesla owners out there!
Great install....When you count, do you start at the first curved hole?
I counted every actual hole that went completely through the panel, even if shaped different from the main ones
Thanks for your video. If I want the blind spot camera, do I have to buy the 10.25 android display? Do I need a license plate frame to mount the camera?
Very cool screen! I did have a question though. Does this cause any issue with the windshield defrost airflow? That backing plate covers a big section of the vent holes.
I just discovered your channel and subscribed. Thanks for being so thorough.
Thanks. Defrost performs fine for the window
the defrosting is performed by the vent hole right near the windscreen, not by that vent hole.
Would this invalidate or affect the factory warranty? Could it be potentially a bone of contention with Tesla service if you have this and you have a weird software issue? How about when OTA updates come and there may be a compatibility issue with the latest software update?
For older Performance Model 3/Y owners. I can CONFIRM that the non-performance cable is what you need. Just like in this video. OneCarStereo was cool about sending me the correct cable, but they should make it more clear on their site and instructions, as the connectors ARE different. For anyone with the Ryzen CPU: you'll need to find a way to tap the 12 volt power. But this is awesome.
Very good share. Unfortunately I was only able to provide the review review. I don’t really have influence on the details of their website
Do you have the intel cpu? Was it difficult to install?
@@TalReviews if you mean which CPU is in my car, I'm honestly not sure. I'd have to look up what was used in all the 2019 build cars. The only hard part was being under the dash and installing the harness to the CPU. That's because you're basically upside down in a tight space. Once that's done it's pretty straight forward
Great video and sounds like a great add-on. Will it void Tesla warranty?
In the US and Canada it would likely have to be proven to have caused a system to fail. There are laws to protect consumers when adding and changing parts on their vehicles.
arrived in 4 days to san diego via dhl
Is there any issue with the bluetooth between the phone and the CarPlay unit dropping out? I have seen this issue on other videos but it was from the earlier 10 inch android unit.
As good as it appears I’m not sure how practical this is operating the functions like apple play on the move through your steering wheel ?
What's a bit more compromise after having so much with the centre screen ?
i knew people would sell these. I just thought it would happen sooner
@Donslife Quick question: can you change the speed units to metric (MPH) or does it stays imperial (KM/H)?
It should be switchable. I installed it on my neighbour’s car so I can quickly check how to switch it over. His was in KM/H when we installed it
I have that unit and love it for android auto and Apple CarPlay
Yes, my neighbor agrees
Can that device use the car sound system for music thru Bluetooth?
@@lvega777 yes, connect tesla via Bluetooth to unit to send sound via car
This is great as tesla have need a second screen for speed and basic info .
This centre screen does not work for many drivers
You’re telling me that you can’t take less then a second to move your eyes 45 degrees to the right?
Some of you people bitch about the most fucking insignificant shit.
Now i will consider buying a tesla y or 3 when you can install this👍 very cool
@@88joshuajohnathan I bet you have Elon Musk themed underpants
I am impressed by people in any of the provinces that do not get any rebates from their provincial government buying an EV.
The screen itself is better than other, but the interface isn't that good. It could make better use of the space. It should work more like the model S front screen, with navigation too.
Only downside is that it blocks air flow to the driver from the dash vents but still a great add on
That’s the only negative I see so far especially living in south Florida. I didn’t buy one yet but I’m going to explore HUD options as well to keep the vents clear.
Best thing about this screen is that it shows you both percentage and kilometer or mile for remain battery charge.
I'm wonder why tesla do not let customer use both of them simultaneously in that huge screen ?!!!
wouldnt it be crazy to have the same screen as passenger screen?
I had a 3 for a month as a loan car. I hated it. This would have changed things a lot. Do they do it with a HUS built in too? That would be perfect.
Hi @donslife. When you say “turn the car off,” did you mean you disconnected the battery? Also, anyone hooked up the harness for Tesla Model 3/Y Performance? Looks like a battery hookup as well.
Turn off the car (which can be done) maybe not necessary but just a good habit when unplugging systems. The reason to disconnect the batteries would be if you took to long to plug in the new harness. Disconnecting the batteries for a bit will reset everything but you’ll have to start again with the OEM harness plugged in
I wish you were in SoCal so I could pay you for this install
Does it affect your range much cause it’s another computer running. Could you change cluster style ?
Very useful! Thanks
You're welcome!
hi great video thanks. May I ask how is the speed sync between the Linux screen and the Tesla screen? Is there any delay for showing the speed from the Linux screen? Thx
In the video you can see the speedometer is pretty much synchronized.
I installed it today. No lag at all for me. Even the doors were showing instant. The harness is hard, it’s way up under the dash. This video doesn’t say, but you need to also push down a clip on the harness to pull it out. Don’t just yank on the wires.
Where is the future support for firmware update? Is there a link for that? My concern is that AA and carplay newer version need new firmware to support
The USB C port on the right side is for firmware updates
This is basically the same thing as the hansshow screen right? Or is this one improved upon that version? Also if tesla releases a v12 software update down the road, does the screen need to be updated too?
There are differences. Depending on the model of Hansshow you are looking at…Integrated GPS, screen sizes, Android OS or Linux (yes there is a difference despite Android using a modified version of the Linux kernel), bezel thickness and some have USB A not USB C for updating . I can’t say which is better value or a better product, I have only reviewed the one product.
Updating the firmware can be done via the USB C port on the unit.
how is the navigation and music working through that? thanks for the video
Your sound options are :
- pair it to the Tesla Bluetooth Audio and listen through the Tesla speaker system (my preference)
- don’t pair with bluetooth and listen through the very small built in speaker
Hi, I was contemplating on ordering this for my Model 3 since the install process isn't too bad either. How long is your promo code active for and how long did it take for your neighbor to receive it?
Hi there. The promo code is indefinitely, which does help me continue making reviews. The shipment took less than 2 weeks or 10 business days for me. Came DHL with tracking. I hope this reply helps
@@Donslife Awesome, thanks for your help!
Grate video is it posible to see turn signals in this circal when turning left or right
Not with the current graphic user interface. Maybe if the update it
Great video. One thing. Never put your hand on my face
May I know did it blocking the air flow come out?
Coz it seems covered a few area on the front broad
The air flows over and around it pretty well
I like the add on because it puts all the driver information IN THE RIGHT PLACE!
I like it
I would have liked to hear if that affected the ability for the fans to blow on the driver, and how much. Also, using apple car play, does the audio still play through the tesla audio system? Id hope its not through the small speaker on that unit.
Apple CarPlay can play through the Tesla’s speaker system via Bluetooth or the tiny built in speaker. Sorry about the fan. Since the weather was on the cooler side but not freezing, there was no thought to test it during the video recording.
@@Donslife thanks for that information and taking the time to reply!
Of course!
Thanks for the video. Was hoping to see more feedback on actually using CP/AA, how it integrates, load times, lag etc...
The website doesn't seem to state clearly how the Bluetooth audio works with the car. Supporting 2 bluetooth devices at once generally doesn't work well. Is there a way to connect the audio of the device to the Car? When running wireless Android Auto requires bluetooth to be connected for phone calls and such.
You can tell Tesla are not car designers. What company in their right mind would not install an instrument cluster right from the onset. Now they supply an after market part. Great video showing the stages for the install. I hope you do well with it.
Mini has a center mounted analogue speedometer actually, which is hard to read in your field of view compared to a big digital speedometer. There is absolutely no need for a display behind the steering wheel since the center mounted one works just aswell. The only people complaining about it are ones that never drove a tesla to begin with or drove 30 years with the same interior style and have a hard time to adjust to something new. Absolutely no difference between looking down at a analogue cluster or slightly to the right at a big digital speedometer, which can easiely be read in your field of view anyway.
It’s about $$$ so bare bones in Teslas
Do you regard Toyota as a car company? Their Prius doesn't have instruments right in front of you
Question. When you were flipping through the screen; Changing the car showing lights on section then doors being opened, tire guage pesssire etc... Can you toggle from steering wheel? Or do you have to use the screen? I don't want to be reaching for the screen while driving. Thank you.
Yes you can
nice video, thanks. does thos void warranty?
In Canada and the US, there are laws that protect the consumer. The manufacturer has to prove the fault is due to the aftermarket part
Nice accessory! Tesla should take some notes 😀😬! Interior still look minimalistic to me.
It was always about cost savings. Minimalism is just an excuse.
@@whitemailprivilege2830 of course.
This is great. I’m definitely going to add this when I get a model y.
Some people seem to like the option!
I purchased this display as well. Question???
Are you having issues with calls? Every person I talk to says they hear an echo when they speak until I turn off the CarPlay connection? Any simple workarounds other then disabling the connection?
I would contact the seller for support. Some of these devices have a microphone sensitivity/delay adjustment. I am not aware if one personally since I installed this on my neighbors Tesla. He hasn’t mentioned the echo.
Will your audio still go to the vehicle’s stereo system when operating CarPlay through this device? Hearing mixed feedback.
Yes you have to pair it with the car’s Bluetooth
how are you? Will you have the monitor for the new tesla 3 2023? compliments
I would keep checking their website for compatibility with new models
Never considered a Tesla before as the interior is soooo bland. Adding this unit makes the world of difference. I would now genuinely consider buying Tesla for the first time.
Great job.
Haha
Hello, so when you use google maps it shows only on the small screen or also on the original Tesla screen as well?
The Tesla screen will only show all of the Tesla designed items on the original large screen
I would like one that shows your side cameras
That’d be cool
i presume on a RHD car its all below the steering wheel? (i.e. we also change the airfilter below the steering wheel)
I am not sure but the wiring is long enough wither way
Does the apple carplay work with the car speakers? Or does it come out the speaker from the screen?
Either / or, you can choose the Bluetooth option or built-in speaker
Welche Displaygröße hast Du verbaut? Grüße aus Deutschland 🙂
that is cool. now tesla 3 is real car 😁
Does this void warranty and can i do this if I’m leasing it and then change it back to normal before taking the car back? I just got my Model Y and it comes in end of the month.
In Canada and the US if installed properly it should not
that's freakingly nice, wondering if the installation steps are gonna be exactly the same for 2023 Model Y?
They have guides. Wiring locations are likely to change over time
@@Donslife do you know if Tesla would void warranty if we hook this up? or use it as an excuse to void the warranty? Thanks
There are laws to protect you from being denied warranty unless they determine your mod or aftermarket part is the reason for the problem
@@Donslife yes, but I read somewhere that happened to a CZcamsr, where he modd'ed his suspension and then he had some issue with some kinds of leaking and Tesla made him prove that his mod wasn't the cause before they cover it under warranty. and that can be stressful af if it happens. But I guess with this hack, you can actually remove it before bringing for service if anything happen and it's like you never modded anything....
Wireless Android Auto!!! Not sure if this was a firmware update, but I only got mine a couple weeks ago: was shocked to find out both our Android phones, once Bluetooth'd to the display, Android Auto just fired up and showed on the screen. This is a big deal that should also be on the website lol
Cool. I wasn’t able to test Wireless Android Auto due to not having a compatible Phone handy
I installed this on my car and I love it can’t live with out it. Only issue I have is when I try to play music from it and Bluetooth it to the speakers it doesn’t sound loud despite me turning it all the up on the steering control. So I only use it for Waze mostly. But it’s life changing lol
You probably already did this, but if not, make sure the phone’s volume is turned up to 100%
@@Donslife it goes to the speakers in the unit, which simply aren't that loud
