  • In this video I install and review a 9" LCD IPS Screen in a Model 3 Tesla.
    Please confirm with the manufacturer the installation required for your specific vehicle as the process can change slightly with each model year.

      The lack of a dashboard was one of my biggest complaints with the non-S/X Teslas and this addresses it very well. I had written them off but this makes them slightly more appealing. Only slightly since I am pretty sure the dashboard will stop working after a software update at some point, but still.

    "It's Linux based so it's gonna be more stable than something maybe like Android". What? Linux is a kernel and Android is "based" on a modified version of the Linux kernel.

    • @Donslife

      Android (Linux based) comes with more features and stuff to the point it is less secure, whereas this device runs directly on Linux making it more stable. No updating required. Just wire up and use.

The only thing I wish the Tesla had that it does not are physical buttons for volume, A/C and wipers. And all of the media stuff you can either stream form you phone or stream form the car itself. hi great video thanks. May I ask how is the speed sync between the Linux screen and the Tesla screen? Is there any delay for showing the speed from the Linux screen? Thx

      In the video you can see the speedometer is pretty much synchronized.

      I installed it today. No lag at all for me. Even the doors were showing instant. The harness is hard, it’s way up under the dash. This video doesn’t say, but you need to also push down a clip on the harness to pull it out. Don’t just yank on the wires.

    Where is the future support for firmware update? Is there a link for that? My concern is that AA and carplay newer version need new firmware to support

  • @zergslayer69

    This is basically the same thing as the hansshow screen right? Or is this one improved upon that version? Also if tesla releases a v12 software update down the road, does the screen need to be updated too?

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před 2 lety

      There are differences. Depending on the model of Hansshow you are looking at…Integrated GPS, screen sizes, Android OS or Linux (yes there is a difference despite Android using a modified version of the Linux kernel), bezel thickness and some have USB A not USB C for updating . I can’t say which is better value or a better product, I have only reviewed the one product.
      Updating the firmware can be done via the USB C port on the unit.

      Apple CarPlay can play through the Tesla’s speaker system via Bluetooth or the tiny built in speaker. Sorry about the fan. Since the weather was on the cooler side but not freezing, there was no thought to test it during the video recording.

      Mini has a center mounted analogue speedometer actually, which is hard to read in your field of view compared to a big digital speedometer. There is absolutely no need for a display behind the steering wheel since the center mounted one works just aswell. The only people complaining about it are ones that never drove a tesla to begin with or drove 30 years with the same interior style and have a hard time to adjust to something new. Absolutely no difference between looking down at a analogue cluster or slightly to the right at a big digital speedometer, which can easiely be read in your field of view anyway.
