  • This is a FULL repost of the day we spent in the field with crews from the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting. This was while they were in full swing at changing L.A.'s street lights over to LED units. We also take a look at the bureau's informal "Museum to Street Lighting."

I don’t understand. Why don’t they just keep the same fixture and why not just replace the actual bulb itself to a Corn LED bulb because that’s what’s needed to make these old street lights work.

SOX LPS is still the best lights to drive under, no glare, no blur, monochromatic beauty. HPS is next, white light with way too much blue sucks for street roads, and driving

22:38 What is that unit that looks like a square cobra head with 3 light sources?

That was a special fixture installed along Hollywood Blvd. back in the 1960’s-1970’s along the walk of fame. You can see the illuminated stars on the sides of the fixture. They have all since been replaced with more common fixtures unfortunately. The original specialized fixtures contained three mercury vapor lamps (not sure of wattage, but could have been 400 watt MV), and they were very bright.
