Every year on (or in this case, around) my birthday, I make a completely biased song choice to GaMetalize.
When I remade my old Forest's Mushrooms cover a couple of months ago, I realized I've hardly done any full Super Mario RPG songs (not including the mega medley, of course), despite it being one of my top 3 favorite game soundtracks.
So I decided to use my birthday pick this year to pick up that slack!

I love how the leitmotif of this song is emblematic of the Smithy Gang as a whole, how it’s used for “Here’s Some Weapons” and the opening to Smithy’s theme. Pretty standard for vgm, but still something I never get tired of.
The SMRPG soundtrack makes great use of leitmotifs to show how story elements are connected.
I've been playing SMRPG since I was 6 years old and I never quite put that together. I don't have much of an ear though. I just realized like three weeks ago that the melody from the jungle level of DKC is used in the cave and minecart levels haha
@@richarddavis8863 If you ever played Donkey Kong 64, you might appreciate this. Every individual level has its own melody, and they reuse it and remix it for every area of the level, including the bosses. There's some commonalities in which instruments you'll hear in similar areas (like against the bosses), but they're still all unique songs. I never really realized that until I listened to the game's entire soundtrack on youtube.
Yeah the Fight against an Armed Boss is basically the Boss Theme for the Smithy Gang Bosses. The other Bosses are Fight against a somewhat stronger Monster!
It also plays in the end when the parade stops at Smithy and the gang!

@@Ninblasto Hearing the revamped boss battle from the preview was already a lot for me to bear, but hearing Nimbus Land right after had me melt so much anyone could have knocked me over with a feather😻😻😻
I can just hear Exor being clean swept by a perfectly timed Geno Whirl, which is actually the only Boss of the game affected by the Instakill timing if I’m not mistaken.
Kudos on the work Johnny! Maybe in the future we’ll get Fight Against A Somewhat Stronger Monster if possible.
that was the one timed hit i could never land.
Few other bosses that had underlings like Culex's crystals were susceptible to the 9999 Geno Whirl.
Yaridovich's clone could be wiped out by Geno Whirl too.

SMRPG is one of my absolute favorite games of all time; the quirky characters, the unlikely team up with bowser, the captivating story. This game is a masterpiece, and you've done it justice with every remix so far. Can't wait to see what track is coming from Okami! Happy birthday, Jonny!

this song had the same effect on me that the Team Plasma theme had on me as a kid. i would always just sit there and listen to it for a while before actually getting into the fight 🤣

That drum pounding opening really took me back. Right behind Bowser's Boss theme in this game, this was my next favorite theme in the game, great job man! I hope you had a happy birthday!

Never thought I'd see someone remember "Fortune Street" in this day and age (let alone remember that it has an absolute KILLER remix of "Super Mario World"'s iconic final boss theme), some excellent choices here also I never realized that the ROCKING main menu theme of "Godzilla Unleashed" is Mecha King Ghidorah's theme...fantastic theme for such an iconic nemesis.
I've always loved the SMRPG Bowser theme! Check out the *GaMetal King Bowser* remix, if you haven't yet! It's heavily based off the SMRPG Version, even though It's labeled as being from Super Mario Bros 3! 🤠

I’ve been listening to your Legend of the Seven Stars production for years now- there’s no other rendition of that music that does it as much justice as you’ve given it. After all this time it’s very clear that the quality of these covers is inherent to the intimate amount of time you’ve spent with the game & the music as well as the formative experience it gave you once upon a time. This was made with pure love. Quality work brother, I look forward to the next banger

the DRUMS ahhhhhh I love your arrangement on this one. It keeps the bounce of the fight while also adding a ton of character
Secondly: love the effects you used on the guitar this time

Oh hell yes, Super Mario RPG, what a classic game, what a classic song. This improves on the original qualities so much, so much snappier, catchier, goes so much harder, rhythmically more interesting and complex, I love it. Amazing Remix.
I love everything about this new take on Fight Against an Armed Boss! The callbacks to your previous versions (especially at the end), that cool guitar effect at 0:26, or the echoes starting at 0:57...idk if any of that made sense but anywho great remix, looking forward to more Super Mario RPG stuff in the future.

Hearing this with different synth along with actual instruments, particularly electric guitars, makes it sound like a theme from a modern Paper Mario game. Never fails to intrigue me how different instrumentation can change the vibe of a track entirely. Amazing work as always

It whooped my ass *once* on the third boss and I adapted forever.

Your Super Mario RPG music is the reason I discovered you 8 or more years ago and I still think it's your best! Some of the best VG music ever in that game. I personally think you're one of the very best doing video game music out there and painfully underrated (or at least under-discovered!)

Let's take a moment to appreciate that 10 people somehow came across this video, CLICKED ON IT, listened to it, and then disliked it. Who are you people and how did you actually do that? Like I'm genuinely curious how you went out of your way to click on this video which clearly intrigued you, otherwise you wouldn't have clicked on it, then heard some sweet guitar riffs, and went "this sucks."
This makes me so happy. I’ve got a lot of fond memories of Super Mario RPG. This is a great remix of great music from a great game.
I feel like we're slowly but surely building up to the remake of the SMRPG medley from way back when. We got sad song when Geno was deconfirmed from Smash back in Feb 2021, then Forest back in May, and now this.

Ah legend of the seven stars I remember this game my very first rpg I remember how to do time hits but didn't know about defending (even though the game taught you at the very beginning). I also remember my HP was out the ass cause I only picked mushroom when I leveled up
