Just saw ur video, I have the same drill. Ran across it while rummaging around in the tool shed. Got as a gift years ago, still in the case with all the accessories. It's like new except for the batteries. Will try to do your method, and get it back up and running. Thanks for showing how it's done.

crazykay9 cool. It’s a nice drill for how old it is. I have a couple much newer ones, and I find myself reaching for this drill most often. The level built into it is pretty handy. By the way, if yours is dried up like mine was, they’re still available as a replacement part.

Thanks for the reply, you have an address for the replacement batteries. The old ones when charged don't last very long @@presentdayjeff5790

Hi, I have a craftsman 3/8" 6.0 v cordless drill/ driver. I've had it since brand new but it's BARELY been used. Being a female, I honestly didn't/ don't know much about using power tools. I have the charger, and it also has a separate plug to plug it in manually i guess. My problem is that I don't know how to hook up the battery to the charger. It has a battery like the one you're showing in this video but the charger has 8 wide pins that are lined up on it. It looks like the ones for newer drills but it's definitely for this drill. I probably have the owners manual somewhere if I looked around my house. I've tried to find out how to charge it from the internet and CZcams and your video is the closest thing I could come to possibly getting an answer even though my drill is 6v not 12. At the moment, I just plugged it in with the straight power cord and the light is red, I'm going to see if it will work after being plugged in for a good while. It would be nice to get it running, I don't know if I really need it because I have a Porter Cable 20v one and I barely use but I have recently started doing some craft projects and I thought maybe the craftsman would be a good beginner drill to prepare me for the Porter Cable. If you could please show me how to charge this thing, if it's still chargeable that is. I can send pictures if needed. This drill is in pristine condition, I couldn't find the chuck key but I'm sure I have it, I haven't looked very hard. Lol. Please contact me if you ever get this message farmgirl389@yahoo.com. thanks alot!

I did some digging and found what I think might be the original user manual for your drill, or at least a very close model to it. It appears the power cord with the small round connector on the end plugs into a matching socket on the battery pack while it is still installed in the drill. Removing the battery from the drill to charge it doesn’t seem to be necessary. This isn’t a very common arrangement for charging cordless drills nowadays, but it should work fine, nonetheless. Craftsman sold many different models and sub-models of drills with a lot of variations, however from what I can tell, what I just explained should work for you.

Nice drill. I am also a small channel on CZcams and I thought I would subscribe.

new subscriber thanks for the video yeah I'm a small-time CZcamsr myself. I have rebuilt to DeWalt drills and a Black & Decker jigsaw from the 70s as well as a skill circular saw. Hey if you can repurpose something and reuse it it's worth it

I just got a similar drill but 14v is it safe to use with having an odd smell?

Mine had a slightly odd smell for a bit after it hadn’t been used in a long time. It’s dust and corrosion on the motor brushes from sitting. Went away.

    Thanx for posting this, JN
I got that same drill, absent the case. I dont even remember how I obtained it,, I didnt buy it.
I assume all the new parts were retrieved via amazon?
What's up,, you got no hot glue gun?!
All DIY'rs gotta have a glue gun!
electricians tape,, pffft,, that's an operation for a glue gun! :)

Atticus Draco it’s actually a pretty good drill now, and I reach for it about as often as my almost new Milwaukee. It’s not terribly high speed, but the power and run times are great. I also ended up replacing the bubble level/bit storage piece after I made this video. That was available still from searspartsdirect, surprisingly. Yes, the battery cells and nickel tabs were from amazon. You’re right, I considered using my hot glue gun, but under a high load a drill battery pack can get hot and maybe re-melt the glue... so I used tape instead. Worked pretty well.

funny you mention the bubble level, that's the 1st thing i noticed (and forgotten) when i pulled it out of my storage shelves a couple of days ago, after being stored there for years. Fortunately, it was stored in the upright position therefore it still works but the liquid has lost its color, its all at the bottom of vial.
I chuckled looking at it 'coz none of my newer ones have that feature, and i'm not sure i used it that often when the drill did work. So I kinda missed it but apparently got over it easily,, and forgotten about it, ha!
I chuckled at the nostalgia of it. I laughed at my VCR and WIN3.1 computer too, which was stored right beside the drill. I miss my WIN3.1, you had to know computing back in those days, oh i miss you ini and bat files!

Awesome, have an old 9.6 Craftsman I'm going to attempt this on it, since Craftsman DOES NOT SUPPORT THEIR OLD TOOLS! meh, what waste of time trying to find a battery, sure you can use a re-built service, as much as batteries go for, gah!
