I'm in my 70s and thought that the emphasis of knowing God through the holy scriptures, is a great approach. But what is so important for this generation to get a hold of is the Authority of scripture. Not what we think about this or that but what does God think and say. Yes we can know God as we study the Bible prayerfully. God is speaking to us in the scriptures and that must be ingrained in them. Now that I am older I know more than ever that the Bible must be put into action and obeyed. John 15 is a wonderful passage (About Abiding in Christ) that I have lived in for years among many other great portions of God's word. Jesus told us that if we love Him we will do what He said. Bible knowledge is so important for those that know so little of the scriptures. It is so lacking in many now. However obeying Christ and following Him daily in a relationship based on discipline that results in being a doer of the Word is not practiced by many individuals that name the Name but only know God on a once a week relationship. This life-style reveals no reality or change in their lives. The Christian culture in many areas of our country is worldly and carnal because they are not students of the word and know next to nothing of basic Bible understanding and how to live it out in a daily walk with the Lord.

Maybe the beginning of Bible is 'simplified'for the function sake, but PROPHETS ARE VERY CLEAR that HIS Temple won't be only spiritual .... physical per latter chapters of Ezekiel and Zechariah.
I sense a new age approach in this explanation, and that's simply 'TOO SIMPLISTIC' stance.
