    Great reaction. I think you would really enjoy Aesop Rock's song Rings. It's one of my favorite of his. Most of his songs take several listens to understand, his lyrics are very dense. But he has some easy ones like " Long Legged Larry" that are just fun.

    • @MoCsomeone

    Aesop Rock is a lyrical genius. Maybe THE lyrical genius. The more you listen to his songs, the more you unwrap the imagery and metaphors, and the more you realize that very few writers, living or dead, hold such a command of the English language.

    That's the reaction I see so often lol. "I don't know exactly what was going on, but I really liked it" -- You've gotta read the lyrics while listening to the song to really get it and even then the references can be hard to untangle on a good day.

    I'd say Aesop is comparable to Shakespeare. But with how language has evolved so much over time, I feel that's not doing him justice. His catalogue is extremely cryptic and layered but always manages to paint an awesome image with words when you break it down.

    • @collinbeal
      @collinbeal Před 2 lety

      I think he's like Shakespeare in being able to basically intuitively create complicated wordplay. Shakespeare wrote for the stage, and without even intending to have his words read or even recorded. It was just him making money with some friends, but it reads like poetry and can be endlessly dissected. Aes's hip hop is much the same. He just stream-of-consciousness spit-takes on a track, but it's so much more than the 3 minutes you spend on the song.

    Here’s a request no one else has done from what I can find. React to Aesop Rock-Water. It’s one of his old but incredibly unique works from when he was like 23/24 years old (He’s currently 45). It’s one of his most lyrically deep songs and often goes unnoticed by many because it’s not something he released himself. It was part of an album that included various artists. It’s easily one of my favorite hip hop tracks to this day.
