Thank you so much for all the great information! I am a Stay At Home Mother who is looking to restart my working life at 42 and was feeling so stressed about figuring out what to do with myself in a way that works with my family life. Your three videos about why you left school, jobs in the industry that don’t require a degree and this online courses video have helped me so much!!! I was considering being a CAD designer, but I was most interested in drawing interiors and now I feel like I may have a good path.

I recommend Ohio University Online. Their Interior Architecture program mimics their CIDA accredited in person program, so more than likely if you are pursuing NCIDQ, you will learn what you need to learn. There are only starting the second year of their online program, but their Athens campus program has been going for over 20 years. It's the same exact curriculum, but once they hit their 3 year mark, they plan on applying for accredidation. It is a state school, and a lot of the CIDA schools are expensive/private, so you will less likely be in pools of debt.
Also, you said that to become a registered interior designer you must go to a CIDA school to qualify to take the test, which is not true. The NCIDQ requirements are the same for people who went to a cida school or a non cida school. CIDA just exists so that you are 100% sure that you will know the material on the test.

So, I'm in Canada where we have CIDA as well. My province requires ARIDO membership for interior designers & in order to acheive that you jad to of graduated from a CIDA accredited school. But I'm just beginning to research all of this and my information may not even be accurate & I'm so lost lol.
You seem very well articulated about the credentials in the industry, would you be able to help guide me in terms of what I would need as a Canadian, Ontario resident - to become a practicing & legal Interior designer here? I was just going to take an online course (institute of interior design), but now I'm questioning if this is even valid and sufficient to become registered with ARIDO (governing body for Interior designers in ontario). The only accredited online course that I have found in my province is Yorkville university & their course is 70k 🥴
I know you don't live here or know the ins/outs here, but since you have knowledge in the industry in terms of accreditation & studying, was hoping you may be able to help me understand the process for my locality ☺️

@@Spacereform3 So upon looking into this, it looks like there are only 14 CIDA accredited schools in Canada. ARIDO does have a requirement of attending a CIDA school. The US is a bit different where we only have to graduate with a bachelors from a CIDA or non CIDA school and get the minimum required hours of work experience and then we’re eligible to take the exams. This wasn’t always the case though. I’m not sure if all provinces in Canada have that requirement though, I would contact ARIDO directly and ask

Hello Good Day , I was reading your reply to this comment and wanted to ask you a question. You seem very knowledgeable and I’m very new to this . Just started watching CZcams videos however this is a step in very serious about and want to go into the direction of being an interior designer.
      My question to you is
If I take a course on IDI will that be recognized by the CIDA, What’s a good way to start and get my foot in ?
I really look forward to hearing back from you !

This was so helpful. I wanna go out of state for uni cause my city doesn't have good programs for interior design. But my mom wants me to stay home. Now I know a few options if things don't work out. Thank you!!

I want to be a commercial interior designer(nightclubs, hotels, salons restaurants, etc), would you recommend taking the Interior Design Institute course or should I search for a specific commercial design program or is it all the same base knowledge?

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking which of these schools I recommend? If so, i Haven't personally attended these schools so I wouldn't put one above the other.

But the thing is that Interior Studios require only Bachelor specialists. All these courses don`t have a sense.

The Interior Design Institute is far from being the best place to learn: the teaching methods are not good at all, they cannot even teach interior decorating (not to mention designing)
