Hell yeah. I couldn't take my eyes off this set. It all looks so random until you start to realize where he's going with each transition and drop.
I was an electronic music DJ (prog house/tech house) back in the day and I always had mad respect for battle DJs like this. I could never do what they do and it's so entertaining to watch. I remember seeing Qbert live and that shit blew my mind but what this kid is doing is on a whole other level.
the best past of the 80's old school came hitting me. Love this.
It's nice to see younger people doing this. All this digital stuff around and there's still kids out there picking up some turntables and killing it like it was the 90s! This dude was a beast!
the main thing i like about RENA is his overall style its like Qbert's style but sped up, his skill is fucking incredible for his age better than adults that ive seen and he does know what he is doing most kids his age press play but he goes OLDSCHOOL. this is how DJ'S should mix and im happy this generation is keeping the art alive, much love from the UK
Where normally the ovaries sit, Rena's mother had two turntables.
This is remarkable! 4 minutes onwards was just mind blowing
There are so many people on these videos who post totally ignorant comments knowing zero about this art form. Pretty disrespectful and pathetic. To all of you the simplest explanation is: he is using a turntable like a musical instrument, as if it were a piano. He's even making melodies by speeding up and slowing down the turntable on the long held out note for crying out loud. That's very difficult to do. He's basically being like a skilled acrobat or juggler. He's also making a completely new beat out of the original that's on recording. These are all techniques of manipulating sound, tiny increments of sound to make something completely new.
Doesn't change the fact it sounded like trash, there are a lot others on DMC doing better sounding beats, but yeah I get it, you are going to say that I'm ignorant and I don't know nothing about this just cause you saw one video about turntablerism.
Alex Gordeev I totally agree with every thing you've said but what's cracking me up is that this kid is not a boy she's from Japan if you go on her web site you'd see her at the age of 12 practicing in her room just as she got from school kentaro is her inspiration
Atoum Mirtu hip hop is not something where people talk and don't prove themselves that goes for breaking mc ing and turntableism so if you have the balls to put down a 16 year old girl from Japan then show us what you can do I'm excited to see peace
Ô para ,o mlk é pica ele e um Dj completo ele é um mixer, difícil de ver com tanta dignidade. Shows
Every time I watchI'm amazed..
1:45 That's some insanely funky scratching
Much Respect.
Wow... I've been mixing for a long time... And always followed DMC even their collections on vinyl....
But I've never seen anything like that... Amazing!!!! 😀
this video out of just about every other DJ mixes out there this one gave me chills!!!
I love to see folks bring new forms of expression to the culture, great job bro, that was amazing.
Amazing, 1000 songs on one Vinyl.
Epic mix. Amazing stuff you can do with Serato. I love it. The cowbell scratch at the beginning was some epic shit.
I hope Dj Craze is watching this, that's his new him. He's just nice 🙌 🙌
おめでとうございます🎉
Haven't checked in on DMC comps since dopey won it. Wow things have escalated
You'd think so. Watch 2019. DMC fell in a ditch after this kid, apparently. Soul left.
Wicked Mix @DJRena , your works really inspiring!
Yes. Yes. Yes. DMC is back!
おめでとうございます😀🎵
12 years old... 12 f'ing years old. Sometimes it gets to the point of unbearably depressing that it's no longer inspiring. Nonetheless awesome.
well he probably started at very young age and hasn't stopped practicing for years and years and he seems really passionate about DJing obviously so of course hell get that good at that age. dont let young prodigy's discourage you at making something you love because eventually someone like him will reach an obstacle they cant overcome.
THANK YOU FOR THIS MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey, my mixer, YES !!!!!! Ni won at a Rane event. love it
This kid is so good it's hysterical 😂 best I've ever heard
while the new technology is dope. I appreciate DMC more in the 80s and 90s all VINYL
Absolutely nuts! Awesome set
This is pure art.... I' am most of impressed! There is no other word... this kid just rock whatever he could rock and made my day!
The best of the best dj.(algo bien)
Remember one thing : no matter how good you are for doing something there's always an asian who does it better than you !
Well somebody would say that what you said is something racist. Once I said the same thing but about black people making music. I’ve been buried by insults.
The best of the best Dj(algo bien)
Wow that is an amazing set
This guy is amazing
Feeling pretty good about the state of Dj’ing after that performance. Congrats Dj Rena
The best of the best dj(algo bien)
lot of talented DJ is in Asia. the world is changing now. Greetings from Auckland.
Boi’s got mad skills ya know!
Insane set man! This set remind me of like the early 2000s late 90s
Adorable DJ
EPIC!!!! Kidz got mad talent
Giving credit to where credit is due. DAMN!
I feel like I've watched him grow up and he's still only 12! Damn...

Wow The best king dj rena👍🥰👍🎧📀💿📀
That was amazing
great job youtube suggesting this one after watching Skillz 2019 winning performance.
I love your work dude i love all your music its just soooo gooood!!!!
im old. i remember skratching involved fingers on vinyl....DMC tapes was the thing in my days, things die and become youtube...kinda feel sorry that kids will never experience a skratch battle.
The audacity of this kid to destroy the place and smile at the audience! :D
What a badass!
It was the best thing ever
Love it ..❤️❤️❤️
You must know the basics to
appreciate this...
Nice! Dj play it loud👌
Lovin' it!
A proper scratch DJ set. It may have not been musically to the your taste the best but the skill is definitely there and he has time to improve that. Most of the other DJ sets on here are sets for clubs but are not in the original spirit of DMC. The great Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money and the OG Cheese would be turning in their graves if they were dead at the current state of DMC.
Nice work Rena.

WOW !!! AWESOME DJ 👏
EXCELLENT DJ...___.very good DJ..
Just came from the 1997 final won by A Trak. Dude doesn’t just scratch, he has to change the records out!
Same with me dude.. Vinyl change just awesome man..those were the days.
@@tzauron you can see the laptop. those are timecode vinyls with custom stickers.
I remember when they actually use to do this and still make good music and have the crowds moving wtf is this shit
He destroyed everyone with this, not even close. LOL
Yes yes old skool vibes witha and new skool twist, my guys fade skills are tiiiiiight
Wow 😯! This kid is insanely good!!!!!! Respect!!!!!
1:43 killing part
Wow!
never thought i would not like one of these videos
He's great... Good luck. Hope you make it.
Haven't seen the other competitors but, regardless of age, this was dope. Great, entertaining set! Congrats my dood.
Yeaaaah! Broo he's awesome!
Can we talk about what he did with the rotation speed knobs for a second?? I’ve always (SINCE FOREVER) imagined this possible, but didn’t think it could/would ever manifest. Until now. YES. and that’s something very very old school. Most modern DJs don’t even know that knob is there.
Good mix of old and new school DJing
loved the godzilla sampleintro ! = )
@@chrisroyal8749 Actually it was the Japanese Godzilla theme song first.
i’m a metalhead step one but this is the most beautiful thing i’ve ever seen
Whoa..... RESPECT!💣💥💥🤯
To him... This is just messing around... To us.... This is NO JOKE...
BRILLIANT!!!
ABSURD how coordinated his movements are; the video looks sped-up at times.
Fantastic chops; Orbits, flares, stabs, juggling, the whole nine. Plus @ that age. Wow!
My only gripe, is altering the original song's patterns, speeds and even chopping it up into pieces to make it look like he is doing more than he actually is, to fit the pattern and speed of how he decides he wants to move his hands.
Basically, DJs today figure out how they want to move their hands & in what pattern they want & then they adjust the record to fit the timing of their hand movement perfectly.
If you are a turntablist or musician or both like myself(former team dmc champ), it's not hard to tell that, if he just let his record play without touching it at all, it would also sound like the record was juggling on its own. Or it may sound like it's skipping, it might have gaps in the beat, or the timing of say, the snares, are all pushed closer to each other. It's just not juggling the original song.
He is not the only guilty one, nowadays all these kids are doing it, which sets the standard much much lower for everyone. So now it's, not about how dope you are, but how much time and money you are willing to put into pre-recording.
They even prerecord scratches & then scratch over the pre-recorded scratches, which makes it sound like they are doing 3 times as much scratching than they actually are.
So rather than learn to juggle or learn to scratch the hard way and develop a very difficult skill that takes A LOT of time, they just let the pre-recorded record do most of the work.
It's also the DMC's fault, for allowing it to get this out of control. There should be some kind of rules, otherwise, let's just let the computers battle, play the prerecordings and remove the human component entirely.
I gurantee, if you handed 2 real regular vinyl records to the entire group of these kids, 80% would not sound as dope as they do without their personal prerecordings.
Not to say I don't love the direction of where battling has gone. But some things you have got to do for yourself. You can't let the machine do everything for you.
Also, I'm pretty sure, Funky cold Medina was the only thing that did NOT sound altered and remained in it's original form.
Kid is still absolutely amazing. Can't imagine how he'll sound in 5-10 years. Geez!!!
True. DMC needs to set standards, allowing tech only to add tools, not crutches.
100 percent facts ! Tech is great but sadly has ruined some things a bit for me. Like dj'ing in general. im no expert on dmc shit but all i can say is this is all a bit OTT, its obvious all the song files have been overly tailor made. id much rather watch the old championships for sure
@@Randy-nb6fw It's not fake. You're just completely missing the fact that he is pushing the 45/33 RPM buttons on the turntable at the same time.
Still haven't heard someone better than Q-Bert! Good luck finding someone better DMC! :D
It's amazing
末恐ろしい才能だわぁ
the moves definitely remind me of izoh
Excelente dj saludos desde México
omg this kid is superb!!!!!!!!
HATS OFF!!!
DJ Rena at age 12: reaching levels of an art form some dream to come close to
Me at age 12: "I can finally fry an egg!"
