There are some online stores that still list NM-MNT first edition cards for around $5, that they could easily throw into “mystery boxes” or sell them in lots with others on ebay like everyone else for 10x their value. I’m referring to collectorscache if you’re curious. Browse some of their older sets and you’ll find random 1st editions in good condition popping up here and there. I’d imagine they are from people who don’t follow the hobby anymore just coming in with their whole collection not caring to pick through and see what’s valuable.

proceed with caution when displaying your valuable cards, uv damage occurs from any long-term exposure to artificial or sunlight. Museum-grade glass / acrylic is required. I can tell in this video that the acrylic is untreated from the reflection of light. Regular UV protection glass is not adequate for long term, you will suffer damage. Museum-quality only. I would hate to know how many cards are going to have the color slowly drained from them.
