    In Germany we can recycle small electronic devices at the grocery store! That's pretty convenient: I always have a small bag with empty batteries & broken cords and can toss them at the store before heading in for grocery shopping!

    You’re awesome! I’ve been following 3 other CZcamsrs, with a similar subject: declutter/minimize. They’re great, but you are now the ONLY one I watch. So thoughtful in your ideas, and well researched. So much appreciate it, thank you.

    For me the most effektive way is still how my grandmother already did: check every shelf, every closet twice a year (spring and autumn).

    I literally did the “don’t put away the laundry” declutter right before watching this! I had a bunch of things that I just don’t like anymore but I kept wearing because I kept running out of clean clothes. Getting rid of them means I don’t have to iron them :). It also means laundry should be easier with fewer clothes! I boxed up about 30 pieces of clothes in about 3 minutes. Then came to CZcams to take a quick break and boom, you validate my efforts!

    What I do is take a garbage bag with me for the stuff that can be thrown away and I also have a shoppingbag on wheels for the things that can be donated. I don’t have a car so bringing things to a donationcenter is difficult for me, but I do live in a big appartment building and as soon as the shoppingbag is full I will take it downstairs and put all the things on a bench that is in the hallway. So everyone can take whatever they want. If things are left after a day or two I will throw them in the garbagecontainer.

      Sounds like you have a similar system Carlien! Trash the trash and set aside what can be donated 🙌

    Thank you Mia this video was Very helpful. I am in the process of trying to move house - in two stages - I need to vacate my current home in September But don't have a new home to go to yet, so I am staying with a friend and needing to put my home into storage on a temporary basis. So these ideas and suggestions will help me when I am sorting everything and packing for storage and for my temporary home. Thank you.

      I'm happy to hear that!! Moving can be quite challenging, and also presents the perfect opportunity for decluttering.

    I think the word you are looking for is a quarantine box. It allows you to declutter but not get rid of something until you are 💯 sure you don’t need or want anymore.

      Or half way home or time will tell bin. Everyone has different names for it. But it’s still the maybe bin. I love the concept anyway.

    Wondering if you have any insight about the psychology/ways to overcome this barrier: I usually am fine with posting things for free as it is truly much faster than trying to sell in most cases, but I recently posted something for a much lower dollar amount as an alternative, since I really did want the cash. Then the next day, the buyer had posted and sold the item for a much larger amount. I was so angry and felt robbed and cheated and spent so much energy trying to figure out the ethics behind this and the policies about such things. In the end I was confused why I was making such a big deal out of it, since I had gotten what I set out for, which was to declutter the item quickly and get a little cash. But it has made me cynical about giving things away.

      Those are some challenging feelings to work through. What do you think caused the frustration? If you can't let it go and it's confusing + frustrating you more, it might be worth taking some breaths and leaning into it.
      It could be a variety of things triggering you in this situation.

    • @rowenalee1684

      Maybe you can try looking at it from a different angle? Maybe this person needs the money more than you? Maybe this person earns their income by scouring the internet and reselling, they could be professionals at this. If I knew someone that was adept at selling things online, I would sell it to them for less than my perceived value and encourage them to do the hard work of reselling the item and make it worthwhile for themselves as well. You have decluttered, made some money, hopefully kept the item out of landfill and someone down the line is enjoying the item that you no longer wanted. Hope this makes sense! 💜

    • @relliesal
      @relliesal Před rokem +2

      I’ve had this happen, too, and it is frustrating. It feels like they’re taking advantage of *you*, it feels personal. If they negotiated the lower price, then yes, they’re taking advantage of you. Otherwise, they just took advantage of a good deal. I have to remind myself that I chose to sell it for the price I did, I sold it so I wouldn’t have to spend any more energy on it, so I need to not spend any more energy on it. And then if I sell a similar item in the future, I know I can price it higher and it’ll sell.

    • @jennellecocco7211
      @jennellecocco7211 Před rokem

      @@relliesal Yes, I think I had forgotten that they negotiated a lower price. Plus they were not very pleasant to communicate and meet with and did not seem very grateful, so after walking away I already had negative feelings about the transaction. Then it was all just amplified by seeing her post it for so much more within a couple hours. You make a good point about selling similar items in the future.
