  • Learn how to create your own rain garden, ideal for urban gardens, to reduce flooding and turn rainwater into a useful, free resource.
On a small roof, of around 10 x 4m, 1000 litres of water is created for every inch of rainfall. Rain gardens harvest and store water in the soil, not in containers, but in especially made beds where the flow is directed. Rainwater can be cleverly used to feed water-hungry plants, whilst reducing localised flooding, by slowing down the flow of water that usually goes directly into drains and sewers, often overloading the system in cloudbursts.
This video shows step to step how to build a rain garden, in gardens large and small, so that you can be part of the solution to localised flooding and grow beautiful productive plants that love lots of water.

Could you put deeper rooted plants in there, like bushes?
And could you use old wood in the bottom layers to absorb more water?

question: why lay the pipe on gravel in the box? why not lay the pipe right at the bottom of the box?

I think it was in part because they wanted the pipe to be angled to direct the water out of the box.
Unsure if there were other reasons, though.

Wish there was a diagram to illustrate how this is plumbed because I don't get it from the pictures or distribution.
