- Today marked one of the most disgraceful moments in football history, and these words are not uttered lightly. Vini Jr, who has endured months of racial abuse in La Liga, including being referred to as a "mono" (monkey) at away stadiums, found himself at the center of another appalling incident. In a shocking turn of events, Vini received a red card for an incident in which he was the victim.
Around the 70th minute, near the Valencia ultras section at the Mestalla, the ball went out of bounds. Though the exact words exchanged remain unclear, one can only imagine the nature of the hateful remarks directed at Vini. With immense courage, Vini confronted the fans and pointed out the specific individuals responsible for the racist slurs. Yet, to our dismay, no action was taken, and the game was not abandoned as it should have been.
To compound the injustice, a Valencia player deliberately provoked Vini later in the game. As seen in the footage, Vini was visibly choked, prompting a natural reaction from any person. Astonishingly, the referee, after reviewing the incident using VAR, brandished a red card to Vini. This act is utterly disgusting.
We condemn the fans who spewed racial slurs at Vini Jr, and we firmly believe that standing idly by in the face of injustice makes one complicit.
