    Hey Daren, that was an awesome tutorial! I have been interested in batteries for about 45 years now, seriously. I don't know if you did lots of research, have personal knowledge or both but you nailed it with this one! You covered everything here and there's nothing I can think of to add..... I really do want to add something however so here goes..... Just to simplify the remembrance of linking batteries, SERIES= DOUBLE VOLTAGE, SAME AMPERAGE and PARALLEL= SAME VOLTAGE, DOUBLE AMPERAGE.
    Cheers!

      One thing is REALLY important in case of a lead acid (No BMS) :
      Use CIRCUIT BREAKERS (FUSE) IN HIGH CURRENT ELECTRIC CIRCUITS. A fuse 2€ and a fuse holder 8€ from a known manufacturer (10€) can save you an ACID SHOWER. 👽👽👽 Or you look like 👽👽👽 after an outing (or charging them)

      @@kayakfishingforpredators9107 Definitely! Even when I rigged my kayak with low voltage lighting (bow,stern,spot & interior) I still used fuses on all items. Could you imaging a fire on a yak while you're on the water?!

    Id still like to see you build a battery, your explanation is spot on

      I did enough research to find out that building one... is just about the same price as buying one. Doesn't make for a great video :)

    I JUST switched to PDL cause I was done fussing with a lead acid battery. Too heavy, too fussy etc. I didn’t know any of these things about batteries either. I hope someone is cataloging all the stuff you bring to the table. We need a kayak fishing obsessed almanac

      @@wendellfishing any advice on where/how to dispose of these batteries??

    • @wendellfishing
      @wendellfishing  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@richardsousa2625 The only real option is that you can take them to a designated lithium battery recycling location or household hazardous waste collection point.

    Awesome info video for anyone thinking about buying a electric motor package. Will it fit on your Native Slayer propel?

      That's a good question.. I believe the batteries fit in a milk crate

      @@wendellfishing Will a Yakattack Nocqua 10h battery fit in the compartment behind the seat? That question bugs me. I need some heavy duty J bars and thinking getting a Yakattack tow-n-stow cart. I can take it apart in stow it in the front hull of the propel. Still looks like Aug/Sept when I can get one.

    Great video. It may seem insignificant but what about the cost or ease of disposal? Do you return both for a core charge? One more thought. Most Lithium, if I understand correctly, comes from China.

    • @tbone6924
      @tbone6924 Před 4 měsíci +4

      Other countries, like Australia and Chile produce lots of lithium, but China does control the battery market...I hate to break it to you, but they also control the market for lead-acid batteries too.

    Excellent information for a battery choice all things considered. I primarily looked at weight but also doing the math it just makes sense to go with LiPO4.

    I have 2 12 volt Lifepro4 100Ah batteries for my 24V trolling motor. I need to be able to check how much the batteries have left while I'm out on the water. I currently have 2 standard 12v gauges mounted in the front of my boat that I had for my lead acid batteries. I have read that using the voltage only does not indicate how much the charge the battery has left. I would like some guidance as I am new to the Lithium batteries world.

      Smart shunt monitor will give you all the info you need while on the water. They have Bluetooth versions as well. Very useful tool.

    BMS can fail,...more components (SiOxide microprocessor), which often results in a 'dead' battery. Lifespan is Not guaranteed 2000or several 1000 more cycles.😮
    Lithium battery can't really resist standing in water/ being covered in water. I think bc of the BMS and long term (moisture) water in the battery compartment affect on that 😢
    The Rebel cell batteries of the 1st gen (populair in Europe) have had several issues like a higher output voltage. The extra voltage HAS to be dissipated by your electric engine. 😢 Some Owners have had overheated motors, electric circuit boards burnt😂.
    For my Lowrance Carbon depthsounder its essential i use a lithium batery. It slurps 24 W (max) thats 2 Amps😂 A lead acid can remains only 2-3 hrs on that power (younger age batterij) consumption. A lithium battery of the Same Size has 199 Wh 🥳👍.
    Now i carry 2 Rebelcell 12V18Ah with me, One is always max charged 😊
