  • @ArturiaOfficial MicroFreak VS MiniFreak, not simply 2 MicroFreak in a box!
So Arturia had a surprise at the end of 2022 with the MiniFreak. A new synth for the Arturia Freak family. This time it's polyphonic, it has 2 LFOs and it would seems to be 2 Microfreak in a box. But no, it's another member of the family with the same DNA but a different sets of skills.
Aand it does mean that you should get rid of you MicroFreak. Some things the MicroFreak is doing cannot be done by the MiniFreak.

Mine (mini) arrives Monday and I’m so excited.
It’s so cool that you can use it to control the vst. I wish the OpSix worked like this with the native version.

    I'm a big Arturia fan.
I've loved my MicroFreak since I first laid hands on it five years ago. I've loved it more with each upgrade. I bought the MicroBrute as an ancillary piece of gear a year after I got the MicroFreak and that's worked out very good too. They hook together nicely. Between the two of them and my FX pedal-board, I'm not seeing a need for the MiniFreak.
I also do weekly synth work with a friend who's deeply into Eurail-rack modular synthesis and my MicroFreak/Brute system pairs nicely with his system, while the MiniFreak would not.
Now I'm getting into soft-synths, particularly Vital with its vast plurality of LFO's, so I bought Arturia's Minilab mkii. But I missed the Microfreak's keyboard action. My solution was to go with an MPE, the KMI QuNexus Red, which also has great connectivity with the MicroFreak and the modular system. I think I'm finally in sound-design heaven.

I've had a Minifreak and sent it back two weeks after. Here are the reasons
The residual noise at the end of the sounds when you use the compressor or the distortion in the fx section has been prohibitive.
No wavetables on the Mini while they are excellent on the Micro.
I found that the fact that you can't dissociate the main enveloppe from the amplification is a huge regression comparing to the Microfreak. Actually you loose an enveloppe on the Mini.
With the Micro, I also like to see my sound just reading the positions of the knobs. On the Mini, the same knob serves to several things. Example : the LFO 1 and 2 are controlled by the same knobs. Same thing for the oscillator. Less readable.
A lot of new possibilities has to be set with the menu and the screen is still as little as on the Micro.
All of this makes this synth less intuitive.
And last point, I couldn't download the soft and my Mini wasn't recognised by my computer because I have windows 7.
Well it's just my opinion but to my use, Microfreak + Zoom MS-70CDR > Minifreak.
Just for the sharing, I've discovered this artist who makes amazing tracks with just a Microfreak and Zoom MS-70CDR. All his channel is great. Enjoy !

the windows 7 point is ridiculous because its 2023, and you're trying to use a 2023 synth on a 15 year old OS that it's not compatible with lmfao. The VST is obviously not compatible either.
"residual noise" is user error, there's not really a reason for using the compression on every single thing you would try to do on the minifreak (not sure what you were trying to accomplish by doing this)
screen size and knob amalgamation are very much personal opinion
There's nothing you wrote here that implies or proves the mini to be less intuitive; you are simply an existing micro customer and are used to that workflow.
This entire video literally documents the differences (a lot of them better) between the mini and the micro. Your points are valid but entirely in your own universe.

@@skyscrapersx5877 Relax, it was just my opinion. I can't write nothing but my personnal tastes hoping that it could help someone to buy it or not
My audio interface is older than my computer. It's plugged with firewire and the drivers are not compatible with an OS newer than windows 7. It was quite expensive and is still very good today. So I won't buy a new audio interface and a new computer just because a synthesizer is not compatible with them. I can live without the minifreak
I don't think it's a useless point, because if I had read it somewhere, I wouldn't have bought the minifreak
I haven't said that I use the compressor on every sound I create. But sometimes it's very useful. When you check all the presets, you can notice that the compressor is used very often
I still have a file with examples of some of the original presets of the minifreak with and without the compressor
      www.dropbox.com/sh/h4bcku37e0kepto/AADV8sqPQjENi4wEdwkErrYLa?dl=0
A one knob per function with no menu diving will always be more intuitive to me. That’s why I prefer the microfreak
Happy if you enjoy your minifreak
      Peace

    a 12 Voice , no? Should come together (the 2) as Bi-timbral.

So i'm thinking about getting a MiniFreak or MicoFreak as my first ever hardware synth. I'm currently heavily leaning towards the MiniFreak. My workflow is mainly digital (FL Studio) and my main digital Synth is PhasePlant...
I'm leaning towards the MiniFreak bercause the 2 Osc and the effects are really cool. The fact that the MicoFreak doesn't have on board effects is a real bummer, imo. That shouldn't be a problem for me, reall, because i've been working digitally for over 10 years now and thus have a lot of VST effects ready to use... But that feels really weird, i'd say. I kind of want the whole package when i spend the money... Otherwise i'd go for a modular approach.
Also the perfect integration with the MiniFreak V VST is a huge selling point for me, as i work digital. If the MicroFreak had that, i'd probably not value the (missing) effects so much, but as far as i know it doesn't, right?
Only thing i don't like about the MiniFreak is the Keyboard.... I'd much prefer it if it had the same capacitive (?) circuit board keyboard the Micofreak has. That's such a cool concept, that doesn't only sound great to use, but also looks really cool.
Do you think there might be a MiniFreak with a MicroFreak Keyboard coming? :D

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  Před rokem

I do not think they will release a MiniFreak with capacitive board. But I have no inside information. In my view the MiniFreak is a more complete synth, with polyphony and fx. But missing some of the engines (vocoder, sampler, wave user). For the Key bed, a lot of people prefer the traditional one because it respond in a know fashion.

    • @Alex.onion_
      @Alex.onion_ Před 9 měsíci

@@Nu-trixOn the forums Arturia seems to say quite explicitly that the samples are coming soon. For the vocoder I agree it's a real shame I don't know if it will be incorporated, but there's a good chance too.

So most things you can't do on the mini vs micro can be fixed with firmware.
Can you do a recap of those things? I'll send the email to arturia, the more emails they get the sooner they'll release the firmware update.
Also there are some differences that can't be fixed with firmware like the pressure CV out, and the keys sensitive to after touch
