    FAQ:
    Q: Can I send you a deck to check out?
    A: Only patrons can send me decks and expect a reply, because I get too many of these requests to manage. Consider joining the discord (links above) and posting your decks in the #decks channel for community feedback.
    Q: Why didn’t you play this certain card I would play?
    A: Because I don’t think it is as good as every other card in the deck.
    Q: Why did you make that play at time stamp XX:XX?
    A: I usually talk through my plays, so watch again and see if I mention it (I often do, sometimes during the turn after the play to keep the video moving). If I don’t mention it at all, I may have missed it. I miss plays several times a day, and so do other players.
    Q: How can I support the channel?
    A: Watching the videos IS supporting the channel. There are many options above if you have extra money and would like to help more. I appreciate it, I have a lot of bills and life stuff to manage, but it is not required. Take care of yourself first, watch the videos, then give other financial support if you really want to.
    Q: Will you play janky deck xyz?
    A: My mission is to show people decks that they can play often, win games with, and feel successful with. I don’t enjoy decks that strive to achieve an interaction but rarely win (aka, janky decks). There are many successful jank players on CZcams, and you should check out their channels. I am competitive, I like winning, and I like helping others win and feel successful. That is why you won’t see janky combo decks on the channel very often.
    Q: Do you show all your games, or do you edit out your losses?
    A: I don’t show all my games. The video is usually the best moments of between one and three hours of recording. I remove games for a number of reasons, both wins and losses. Some games are slow, some aren’t competitive because of lands, some are the same matchup over and over. More losses get cut out than wins because winning is more fun for me, which makes for better content for most viewers. It can be disappointing for those who want to see me lose (yes, people watch just to see me lose, I see you!).
    Q: If you edit out some of your losses, how do I know if a deck is good and worth crafting?
    A: If you watch the entire video, I always give my honest opinion about the deck at the end. As always, you are welcome to draw your own conclusions. My goal is to show off a variety of decks that can get a player with skill and conviction into Mythic, and I want them to have fun doing it. I almost never show a video of a deck that I don’t believe in, and if I don’t like a deck after playing it, I guarantee you will know about it if you watch the whole video and listen to what I have to say.

    I've found having elder gargaroth as a 1 or 2 of is very useful for searching up against aggro decks, especially since the deck doesn't really have any life gain otherwise, which can be a problem if you are within stomp range of lethal. Also vorinclex is very bad in the main deck, searching it up with tibalt doesn't really work since the opponent can just give you alrund's + vorinclex, which gives you a lot of aggression but no card advantage, which might not be a problem if this wasn't a control deck. Because it is a control deck the opponent is usually at 20 life even at turn 7, which means that the 14 damage you can get in with the vorinclex + alrund's isn't lethal and can basically be answered by heartless act, which is not what you want your seven mana sorcery to be. However it's actually amazing post - sideboard in the mirror match, since after boarding out heartless act the deck pretty much has zero answers, given that its removal at that point consists of sagas and planeswalkers, which don't work against vorinclex. I've already won one very funny game where I played turn five vorinclex and simply beat face for the next four turns while my opponent dug for answers they didn't have.

    • @isaz2425
      @isaz2425 Před 3 lety

      nice idea, I'll give it a try.
      I learned the hard way that problem with vorinclex. But I think alrund is also not very good, so I cut 1 from my list, tibalt, vorinclex and seagate is often the choice that I gi e to my opponent now.
      some shark typhoon can also be pretty good in most matchups.

    To be honest, one shouldn't be able to cast Tibalt when finding Valki with the ultimatum. The texts says (and explicitly implies) only mono coloured, in the same way they just updated the Cascade rule so you can't cast Tibalt when hitting Valki after cascading a 3 or more CMC card. My two cents.

    • @saturninewyrd
      @saturninewyrd Před 3 lety +1

      While I understand your logic, cascade gave you the ability to cast tibalt on turn 3. Emergent gives your opponent the choice to allow you to cast tibalt + a freebie on turn 7 for a fairly restrictive cost. Shit ain't the same imo

      Explicitly implies? Lulz

    • @GranMaese
      @GranMaese Před 3 lety +2

      @@saturninewyrd But turn 3 or not, in Cascade the rules says you can cast cards with lesser CMC when cascading. Valki is 2 CMC and Valki and Tibalt are the same card, so you should be able to do so. However they changed it, precisely 'cause it was not logical since each side of the card has its own different CMC, 2 and 7 respectively (and different colour too, mind you), they had to fix it so the ruling fits what the mechanic is actually saying and be more consistent, logical and intuitive. In the same way, Ultimatum says mono-coloured cards. You should only be able to cast the mono-coloured part, that's what the mechanic is actually saying. It being "fair or unfair, broken or not" is irrelevant here, but consistency and intuitive, logical results based on the ruling.
      Edit: If Tibalt would be only red, or only black, then it would be fine, but is multi-coloured, hence it makes no sense with Ultimatum.

    I think what would frustrate me a lot more when playing this deck than playing against aggro is playing the mirror match. Unless I'm really land screwed, matching up removals against mono-red's threats and stuff is like a relaxing game of solitaire, and when I do stabilize it feels really nice. That's something about Magic that I'll always appreciate that will never go away, no matter what the meta is. On the other hand, the mirror match is just "hi yes i drew my ultimatum first please concede now". Enough of those, and I'll start thinking about how to make my own anti-Ultimatum deck.

    OK - so as always CGB, I love your videos. Please keep 'em coming.
    I myself had been having a lot of trouble on ladder with the current meta, including, among others, this deck as well.
    A few days ago I managed to come up with a Mono Blue deck which can deal with his deck and has relatively good matchups vs almost any other deck, weaker against heavy aggro decks. I don't know the win rate, but on Sunday I was in diamond 4, and now I got to mythic so was pretty good; I would say at least 60%. I am even tempted to call this deck "the Answer" as CGB likes to term the decks that can defeat anything, generally.
    So here goes:
    4 X Ascendant spirit - really chip and great mana dump whenever you can. If it lives after it comes down, also really good against mono red and white (green can get too big for it, but sometimes not);
    3 X Bind the monster - one mana "removal"; gets through those pesky indestructible creatures and really helps stabalize the deck against aggro;
    2X lofty Denial;
    2X negate;
    4 Brazen Borrower;
    1X Cosima, God of the Voyage - not a must, but a good body to block and helps draw cards, and/or the omenkeel can really be clutch to crew it with the ascendant spirit and get more lands;
    1X midnight clock - slight ramp and/or card draw and/or anti rogues;
    2X mystical dispute;
    4X saw it coming;
    2X whirlwind denial - amazing card for the meta i think, can stop planeswalker abilities, faceless havens turning into creatures, sagas, and of course counter spells (the most fun is countering an adventure spell along with the edgewall innkeeper draw).
    2X rewind - I think this is important as there are times when you have to be able to use more mana than you have to counter two spells or bring out the borrower after a counter to put pressure;
    3X voracious Greatshark;
    3X shark typhoon;
    2X sublime epiphany;
    2X Sea gate restoration;
    19X snow covered lands;
    4X Faceless havens;
    Hope this helps somebody, and that no one gets upset at the long message.

I got screwed in a game where i had 20 lands out and still didnt pull an emergent, so i looked into the new packs and found a spell fetch that works insanely well with this.

    Interesting that the top deck right now doesn’t have any cards from Eldraine (except Fabled Passage, but that’s so ubiquitous I almost forgot) despite the set being so pushed and overrepresented in Standard for such a long time. Good thing about the deck is that you can sideboard really well against it. It struggles a lot vs any combination of Goldspan and counters. Even if you run creatures, Duress helps a lot because if you just take their payoff, the deck struggles to do anything. Might be powerful but the gameplan is too linear and easy to attack in competitive formats in my opinion.

      I think the point of ultimatum's monocolor restriction is mostly to prevent it from casting an other ultimatum, so this combo isn't much more broken than expected during the card design.
      while cascade would let you play a card much more expensive, and therefore much more broken than planned, very early in the game.
      I think that's why they had to change the rule for cascade and not for ultimatum.

    • @matthewkea3476
      @matthewkea3476 Před 3 lety +2

      This is because of Vorinclex which doubles all counters. For sagas it means you immediately get two counters triggering both the 1st and 2nd chapter. Opposite is true for your opponent where sagas do nothing as all counters are halved rounded down :)

    • @paulhorton5168
      @paulhorton5168 Před 3 lety +1

      was because of vorinclex adding the second counter when it came into play. Vorinclex doubles counters if you play a permanent that gets counters. Halves those that opponents play. That's why their sagas never get any counters on them if you have vorinclex out on your side.
