Yeah deffo need some
More mixed strike packages with mirage and f16 they are getting. Testing out mica and the amram 120 they are getting etc. all the weapons
That video focused on the Mirage 2000D, but it looks like Ukraine will be getting the Mirage 2000-5 instead. Since the Mirage 2000-5 is more air-defense oriented, maybe a new video is in order?
Placement of the S400 at Dzahankoi might need to be edited.
Wow.. Must of missed some. Lol ☺️👍
You lost me immediately with that silly takeoff scrum. If you don't know why that can't be done, I won't bother trying to explain.
Of course, the French have seen your videos, and now they’ve offered Mirage 2000-5 to Ukraine. This means Macron wants Cap & the Boys to make a similar video with Mirages 😂
Yes exactly! For one the Mirages will be in the Country before the Gripen! They are just starting some training on the Gripen, but they have already been Training on the Mirage for almost as long as the F-16.
😆👌🏼
If Mirage 2000 f5 block II or III, consider adding the maritime mission set ...
czcams.com/video/9-Pci_wWsFI/video.html
@@grimreapers it would be great if UA gained Mirage 2000D. As of June 7, 2024 Macron specified Mirage 2000 f5 (no detail which variant, nor number of ac) with the explanation that they were intended to enable airspace defense over Ukraine. It would be an even greater monster flex if some Mirage 2000Ns were thrown in for good measure ...
as an American i LOVE the JAS 39 Gripen! favorite plane by far
The JAS was specifically designed to counter every and all Russian weapons and aircraft. It has a whole host of extremely advanced avionics. It's 4.5 + generation.
The JAS 39 Gripen E is the best 4.5 gen fighter in the world.
@@Ghooost____733 Latest version of Rafale + F-15 EX? ...
nah
far more capable than the F-16 Ukraine is getting, that's for sure.
@@-Zevin- yeah, but Sweden doest have any spare gripens,
Now they will be getting Saab 340 AEWCS
S 100 Argus. So an air superiority mission with AWACS and Gripens with Meteor would be cool.
we will probably not see gripens especially not the E version in ukraine for NOW and a LONGTIME in the future, because we are actively building up our fleet of gripen, unlike the f-16 wich is getting phased out.
@@edvin_hook I was referring to a mission in game, to explore the possibilities. Real life is another thing entirely
So much fun. I really enjoyed the (obviously difficult) Quick Response missions.
Priceless landing at the beer tent. Cap: " 'scuse me, I need a beer NOW! Comin' through! "
lol
Gripen is not a fighter bomber but a true multi role aircraft.
It can do fighting and bombing. But also sea scouting, survilance (both radio and optical) as well as sea strike.
What made gripen unique when new is that it can do all missions in the same sortie. So no need to land to configurare.
I kind of doubt the helicopter would manage that 27 mm autocanon in reality. Its a very potent gun. Consideraly heavier than the 20mm gun a lot of american fighters use
There's absolutely no way any aircraft could survive the hits these Hinds shrugged off. The damage model is just broken. It couldn't have even taken those hits in 20 mm.
JAS stands for Jakt, Attack and Spaning / hunting, attack, reconnaissance
@@Ghooost____733 That is sort of a simplification. That is what most people say. but actually its short for SK, SF,and SH where they shorted it to just S. It also shorted the SKE to just as well.
This kind of matters because the two seater is just not a training aircraft, but also a sort of weapons officer or radar operator.
So the S stands for "spaning" is sort of a lie you tell for the children because you don´t want to make it complicated.
For the single seater it may not matter. But for the two seat aircraft its quite a big diffrance. Because unlike prior aircraft the two seat aircraft have a full mission as well
Actually Cap, the engine used in the Gripen E will be the same as the Super Hornet, which will give that platform the ability to SuperCruise with a loadout. It will have approximately 40% more power, longer range, 10 hardpoints (instead of 6 - not quite the 12 you asked for), an upgraded radar, towable decoy, and NATO complaint for virtually every weapon in the NATO arsenal. It will probably have just 1 17" LCD display as the Swedes liked the Brazilian order's design. That with all the incredible service advantages that come with the Gripen. Can't wait to see the "E" modeled.
The E will not be sent to Ukraine though.
i doubt that the E version would be the one sent to Ukraine though, more likely the C version so that Sweden can replace their own stock with the new E version. At most perhaps one or two E versions, to combat test it.
its not the same
@@BayerTE1 after 2016, JAS 39E wasn't intended to replace the 39C, but complement it in a very Swedish high/low mix (60/100).
Problem is current production capacity of around 6 aircraft per annum.
@@johanmetreus1268 You are correct but got the year wrong. The change to parallell operability was made in 2020. Thx for the info ^^ But yeah, i still highly doubt that the E version will be seen in Ukraine unless NATO actually gets hands on involved in the future. The E version isn't even in service in Sweden yet as far as i have seen.
Cap's plane must have some SpaceX programming in it
Gripen has a vertical launch mode? Neat!
It appears so.
VLS Gripen
I'm glad you qualified this as "the closest we can come to realistic". It demonstrates that the Gripen could carry out any of these missions, but as others have pointed out, the Gripen was never designed to and would not realistically be asked to carry out ALL of them in a single sortie.
RE limited range and ammo/load-outs--Swedish military doctrine has never been about power projection, it's been about making Swedish territory more trouble than it's worth to invade. As such, it's highly unlikely that Sweden would launch a large group of fighters to do anything unless they had a large formation incoming to intercept. With as widely dispersed as their Air Force can be when operating in war conditions, and how rapidly they can re-arm and refuel, they're far more likely to launch a small or medium force to initially intercept and then maintain an almost continuous stream of freshly loaded and fueled jets coming into the engagement (since they're not having to fly huge distances from their home airstrips, the jets that are bingo fuel or winchester can cycle out, land within 20-30 minutes, rearm and refuel in another ten, and be back in the fight inside an hour, even if the engagement is over the Baltic off the southern tip of the country and the jets had to fly all the way north to replenish.) And they would train Ukrainian pilots to operate in similar fashion. Whether Ukraine's military leadership would operate under that same doctrine is another question altogether.
Like any other weapon on the battlefield, if you try and push it beyond its designed capabilities, you're going to find deficiencies. Ttrying to use the Gripen as the do-everything-in-one-sortie jet is akin to using a submachine gun as a sniper rifle. That's not what it was made for. Someone who's REALLY good with it might be able to make it work part of the time, but it's going to come up short in the long haul.
And it appears that the Gripen, if it ends up going to Ukraine, will likely be a long-term solution to reconstructing a Ukrainian Air Force with NATO-capable planes, rather than being a hurried stop-gap measure like the F-16s and Mirage 2000s. All three are excellent planes...the Falcons are available because NATO nations are looking to upgrade to the Lightning II, the Mirages aren't exactly fresh off the production line, either. As someone pointed out, Sweden doesn't really have surplus Gripens they can rush to Ukraine...but that doesn't mean that Ukraine can't begin ordering construction of their own fleet of them. It makes a lot of sense, the Gripen is more affordable than most Gen 4/4.5 fighters, it's significantly easier to maintain and cheaper to operate than the F-16, and it was constructed with exactly the kind of combat conditions Ukraine has been operating in as a steering principle. It's rugged enough to handle repeated landings on unimproved or improvised airstrips and it's an all-weather fighter, designed for a small, moderately-trained ground crew to turn around and put back in the air in very short order. It can either carry or easily be modified to carry almost anything in the NATO arsenal. I don't expect to see them in the skies over Ukraine anytime soon...but I would not be at all surprised to see squadrons of them in Ukrainian livery within the next five years.
Oh but you are mistaken, it was very much designed to be able to carry out all mission types in a single sortie. SAAB calls it 'omnirole' and a sortie can extend to several road bases with any number of rearmaments required as new tasks are assigned. To a swede such as me, it is very amusing how underestimated the capability of the Swedish Air Force is.
@@33vortex I was referring to the duration of the mission, not the capability of the loadout (although you generally get better results optimizing your weapons loadout for specific missions, rather than trying to carry something to handle any contingency). I've long been sold on the Swedish Air Force, since before they even started flying the Gripen. It's just not good military doctrine to say, "We're going to launch ten planes that all have a little of everything," and have them loiter and wait for a call and then have all ten respond to every call that comes in. As we saw here, you end up with planes that barely have enough fuel to make a do-or-die landing (if they actually last that long, even).
Gripen E has really good Range know wich bigger fuel capatity and supercruise on that and you can get shit done!
@George Very well explained. Sortie generation within the area of operations is what the Gripen system is all about. Used correctly in a territorial defence type posture the system generates an actual fighting capability many times smarter/bigger than some invader who need to ferry over the Baltic sea.
@George Very well explained. Sortie generation within the area of operations is what the Gripen system is all about. Used correctly in a territorial defence type posture the system generates an actual fighting capability many times smarter/bigger than some invader who need to ferry over the Baltic sea.
One of the things that make the Gripens very effective is their data links. They used them to great effect during their first visit to Red Flag years go from what I read.
Yup, and that datalink is designed to be continuosly kept up to date to interface with all other sensors of the same generation in the Swedish arsenal set to the same radio bands and synced to the same frequency jump key... and is compatible with several equivalent NATO systems since the IFOR/KFOR/SFOR missions.
Ie, a SAAB 39 can relay and/or use sensor data to and from any SAAB AJS37(retired), other JAS39s, AAV9040, CV9040, Strv122, Archer, radio interfaced infantry tac display, corvette, submarine, CB90, any type of NATO AWACS or air controller, ARTHUR, Giraffe and other ground based RADARs etc. And, if the info recived has the right data, the JAS39 can use it for target sollutions instead of using it's own, and the more modern of the other systems can do the same for their own weapon systems.
Ie, a Visby corvette can use the sensor data from a JAS39 to target and fire it's RBS15 anti ship missiles at targets outside the corvettes own sensor range as long as it's within the flight range of the missile, and the JAS39 can do the same with a Giraffes or AWACS sensor data for the JAS93s Meteors. 😊
I thought the A10 cannon had a hell of a sound but the Gripen cannon sounds like an angry god waking up grumpy from a nap to slap you down.
As it is said, beware the quiet ones... don't mistake the confidence of a dozing lion for softness...🤫
The Grippen technically is the only jet specifically designed to counter Russia. I was disappointed that my country Canada didn't buy any and went all in on F35s. I was hoping for a mix. 40 F35s and 25 JAS39s.
We lost a chance to have a real new partnership. Most people don't realize that Canada plays a substantial role in building the F35. They build the helmets and they also do maintenance and upgrades. In Montreal, Quebec.
Glad your voice held up SC, I have become accustomed to it! Great fun everyone, thank you, and Cap, if that landing stays that way for more than 4 hours, get medical attention!!❤😊
I really appreciate how Cap gives us a close-up view of the Gripen's sphincter tightening up as it starts its take-off roll . . .
I remember reading that in Libya the Gripen where highly appreciated for it’s radar’s ability to find helicopters.
It seems the Gripen's internal BK 27 isn't modeled correctly. The Gripen C and E both have only 120 rounds for it rather than 500, and two-seat models remove the gun entirely. Also, the damage appears to be lacking for a 27mm cannon.
I take 120 rounds and auto aim!
But as the auto aim is not modelled correctly...
the helicopters have strange damage models
Sounds like the DCS Gripen is a tweaked skin on an F-16, as that is fitted with a 20mm Gatling cannon that is VERY loud in the cocpit as it's mussles end just outside the cockpit by the right shoulder of the pilot...
Yeah, that HUD is very tinted isn't it!
I love the Gripen ❤ so tiny but so Mighty
Giggity
The Gripen secret move, "Ground Cobra"
Respect the amount of work that goes into building these missions
I can see Sweden giving all their Sidewinders and AMRAAMs except for the absolute latest variant since they have basically switched to rely more on Meteor and IRIS-T
Whilethe missions themselves make sense, you wouldnt do them all in one mission. If you are on escort you might do some CAP and then only have AAM loadout with extra tank and maybe ECM pod so 2 Sidewinders and 4 AMRAAMs, or you have a Strike mission with 2 ASM, pod, tank and 2+2 AAM
We basically are doing that after the recent buying/stock up on the 120 amraams (robot 99).
Cap is the Rocket Man! Oh, no, no, no, I’m a Rocket Man. Rocket man, burning out his fuse up here alone.
Lovely to see the Gripen back, I’m sad this mod is semi broken now.
Be interesting to see a similar exercise with the Mirage now too following the news this week
DOD approved AIM-120C8 sale to Ukraine about a year ago, so the best C variant, delivery will probably take place when the European F-16s touch down in Ukraine.
Sweden has access to the Meteor. Best NATO missile?
Wait really? We're giving them the newest ones? Those are almost as good as the the D-3s that America is currently using.
Damn. Bad news for Russian aircraft
😶damn... Russian planes are ...
@@ObiWanShinobi917 i believe we got a misunderstanding, C8 is newly produced C7 with F3R refresh and D-3 the original D variant with F3R refresh, so C8 a C7 with increased range and electronics likewise with D3 and D, D-3 has much more legs than C-8.
@@DerDop unfortunately they'll operate like they are now with not much nuisance, the F-16 block 20 MLU Ukraine gets has an abysmal radar being the APG-66V2, that's an older model than we got in DCS😬, it can't make use of the range that a C8 gives due to radar limitations, the russian frontline fighters (Su35, Su30SM2) will remain superior by a good margin unless Ukraine get's a Gripen-E or an F-16 block 70.
Ok hear me out, a thrust vectoring gripen
I could get into that.
Nice video, hope your doing well Cap good luck.
With that HUD it's like flying blind!
Use force Luke!
No Ukrainian pilots were harmed during this simulation.
Awesome ending :)
sweden is donating AIM-120B in the latest care package so you are correct by using old amraams
Big ups for proper pronounciation of Gripen! Much love from Stockholm, Sweden.
With the Gripen-E model, they did add more of everything. ;)
I'm picturing the aircraft going Transformers style, sprouting legs, and sidling up to the tent to get a snack and some fuel after the mission.
love those landings you guys . . .
Love all Gripen content. More please..!
I always find it remarkable the way they use white screens rather than black for the MFDs. I always wonder why that choice was made.
Also, that is an annoyingly dark HUD.
Switch to night mode and they go black.
Nice Scandinavian flick at the end!!!
One of the biggest advantages of the Gripen is that it is made for landing and taking off from normal roads.
Just like the Mig29.
This is very important because Ukraine will not be capable of defending an airfield within Ukraine from missile attacks. Even if they dedicate a was amount of AA to this they will not be able to take down everything and the F16 will be very vulnerable when landed.
Gripens will we able to work from roads and could in practice be landed and hidden in warehouses a few hundred km behind the lines in different places.
Also the Gripen is the least maintenance heavy of all the modern jets.
Good, and Ukraine has a very well developed and lengthy road system?😂
@@jessicaregina1956 You don't need every road to be up to this standard just find a dozen places within combat range. And each day you determine which are being used and close them down.
This makes it very hard for the Russians to keep up with and prepare counter missile strike.
@@jessicaregina1956 yeah and Ukraineans been reinforcing, widening and praparing portions of their road system to ease jet fighter operations from them.
That grippen is a real rocket ship hey cap

the beer tent did not survive your rocket impression at the end.
Those EU pilots do like their beer warm 😂
That’s was really enjoyable, “this is not a good use of Gripens”😂....thanks😀

You found the hidden vertical launch button that switches the Gripen into a rocket. Now you have to share that info with the other GR members so you can have a drag race to the ISS. Just, y'know, try not to cause an international incident by running into it.
I believe Germany is still holding out on giving Ukraine the Taurus
Gripen would be perfect. Relatively simple to operate and maintain. Can take off and land from non-prepared runways, cheaper than most other front-line fighters available but still very capable. Would be great to provide to the Ukrainians at scale.
Can you do a Video with the Mirage 2000 -5 being used by Ukraine? Seeing it looks as though we will receive the Mirage before the Gripen! They have already been training on the Mirage months ago. And I still haven't heard that we have started training on the Gripen.

Ultimately a JAS-39 or F-16 doesn't offer any particularly unique capability in and of themselves. Especially when you consider that the pilots won't be particularly skilled in said aircraft.
It all comes down to what weapons they are supplied with and the level of supply.
If they were provided with an effectively unlimited number of Meteors, for example, then they could be very useful, taking out fixed and rotary wing aircraft at will.
However, if they are limited to stand-off weapon missions then they don't really provide any new capability.
Realisticly You never hang around for fun.
CAP "being a pilot is hard, I want a desk job"
So...DCS = desk chair simulator 😅😅😅
oof
The Saab JAS 39 is a beautiful aircraft
Cap is the new rocket-man!
What about something like a modern ASW group against the Type 21 U-Boats?
QRA against bombers (in Russian territory) - Meteor
Anti ship - RBS15
Those are some pretty birds Cap🤙
Beautiful Humans flying sexy machines. that tag line makes even more sense in this video. love the JAS39
Two items. First, Gripen looks like it will be effective as long as Cap isn't the pilot. Second, stop letting the Gripens watch SpaceX Starship launched, they will want to try it themselves.
ROFL. Best role for Griphon's seemed to be:
- harvesting wheat
- distracting tanks
- teaching the "directionally challenged"
- tent parcour
The JAS-39, and Rafael are my favorite of the "backward fighters" followed by the Typhoon, and then is a distant fourth, the J-10..😅
Maybe an F-135 engine on the JAS-39G then? 😂😂
I love that plane!!
Pretty prophetic that DCS has a Crimean map!
One interesting scenario that will eventually come up is: could Ukraine set a trap for ruzzian bombers with the F-16/Mirage working with the Swedish donated early warning aircraft?
- would/could the F-16 and or Mirage need to be adapted to carry a longer range missile like SM-2/6 or PATRIOT?
- could those get airborne and in range fast enough?
- would the long rumored Australian F-18 be needed for that?
Cap in vertical mode! LOL Priceless
When all airfields are bombed out, enter JAS.
That was low capt!
Fun facts today the s400s were taken out so new sim will be needed. Oh and 4 radar stations
People really have no clue about the capabilities.
"Are you souvenir hunting?" Laughing. "Picking up Russian Grass!" Thank you for the laugh!
GREAT Mission; thank you!
those things open at the engine are the airbrakes I believe.
Not gonna lie you should have given the gripen the Meteor missile but great vid!
i think with friendly fire, not lot count of ammunition, enemy anti air defence and aviation this will looks very differently in real operation*
There's no Gripens available. There weren't that many built, so what's the point of this? You might as well ask how pixie dust would work.
they have a very open plan to reduce c/d fleet to 60. there are about 20 to 24 coming available with the e variants into the fleet. But I agree that there won't be many.
@@victordesoto535 IT's unfortunate. The Gripen is possibly the best platform for Ukraine. Cheap, easily fixed, cheap to operate. Shit you could have it take off, land on a rural highway take off again and have the support crew move.
What we've learned the last couple of weeks is that politics trumps solidarity. From the very few swedish officers now serving that I know the picture painted is that the swedish defense very much want to help out as much as possible. The idea that Russia could stage an attack on Sweden at the moment is quite implausible. Therefore we could send our existing planes and have our NATO neighbours help out until we catch up. But same neighbours wanted to get rid of their F16s so it came down to good old politics. Sweden can, and Sweden should and Sweden probably would send those jeta. After all we've tried getting the world to see them while the US swings its dollar penis around and makes every country buy f18s and f35s. Actual combat missions would help sell future planes. Which again probably isn't in the US interests. Politics.
Amateur question… does the Gripen sound the same as a Hornet, given the engine is the same? I thought the Hornet had a very distinctive howl?
Aerodynamics are also a factor, not just the engine.
Gripen had no howl from what I remember.
@@grimreapers More of a pitched whistle, quite distinct.

I wonder how a modern “Flying Tigers” unit (funded by an anonymous billionaire) would operate if they had access to Cold War era planes (Kfir/Mirage III/IV, Harrier, F5, F4, A4, Migs, etc)?
Photos recently surfaced of a
F/A-18 Super Horner carrying an SM-6. With an unclassified range of 150 miles (when launched from VLS) how effective would it be against a Chinese/Soviet naval or air attack
Thought the intro was some dubstep music. Nope lol
Can DCS express the ability to maintain weapon lock at 90 degrees off target, notched?
Saab claim they can see Stealth planes and USA say stealth is awesome. One is correct. The term generation 4 or 5 is a marketing term used by Americans nothing Saab uses.
Both are correct, stealth is awesome as a passive defense baseline. SAAB has been the most high end, partially government owned, aerospace defense company in Europe since the 1950ies, and since Sweden has such a small population and was a non-alliance country sandwitched in a strategic location between the European NATO countries and the Muskovite soviet republic with half of the other Warsaw pact countries les than 1h flight away at commercial jet speeds, developing technology to detect every conceivable threat in time to react on it as well as the weapon platforms and munitions to do so if nessesary to stay free was absolutely imperative on every level until the very second we were accepted as full NATO members.
Now, it's still as important but for other reasons.
Mi-24 was and maybe still is one of the TOUGHEST birds out there...
@grim reapers: i think youre making a misstake in what would be a good tasking for the F16/gripen combo: thinking of this in mission description rather than tactics and capabilities. Ukraine has excelled at punching above their weight by using clever tactics and gripen is defo a tactics enabler. I think the fighter combo would be best put at use playing at their individual strengths but in close cooperation. I think the winner would be using a sorta bait and switch tactics: F16 in SEAD or ground attack, anything which provokes and air response by RU Air, then between Gripen low flying with Meteors and strategic placement of Patriots, they would be teeth that strikes on the air response. RUAF would have get the choice of losing sams or faighters. Not saying that it would be an easy mission to design in dcs butt it would be a hell of a mission.
cap doing breakdance with the Gripen
Is this the Gripen after the recent upgrades? I believe one of the upgrades was a more powerful engine, as well as much better radar. The upgrade liste sounds almost like the tick-list of complaints you had during this video.
JAS 39E is a new aircraft, Gripen NG. The "upgrade" scheme was for political reasons, the minister of defence thought it would make it easier to get through the Riksdag even if only the steering stick were used fro the old aircraft and the rest was scrapped..
So the Gripen has to 'erect' to fire a missile and also 'erect' to land. 😲 I'm sensing our Swedish cousins are hinting at something........
Giggity
Why no ASC 890?
How did you copy and paste so many objects? Surely you didn't click on every object one at a time?

tbf US air traffic control lands planes over each other and on the same runway all the time. So apart from it being a road, all is normal.
27mm cannon vs helicopters.
Do one with how Gripen E can go against the Chengdu J20 with the South China Sea theater.
it's a light fighter!
