When my day is just go to work, come home, eat supper, watch TV, go to bed kind of day where "nothing happened", I write 3 things I'm grateful for, and they don't have to be specific to that day. Honestly, most days are like that. But then if something happens that I want to remember, I do write that instead, sometimes just in point form if that's all I feel like. Sometimes it's something I did, sometimes it's a news event, sometimes it's literally the score and highlights for my favourite hockey team that played that night, lol. It's the last thing I do before I turn off the light to fall asleep so it's just something that will only take 5 minutes. That's the only way I'll keep up with it.
I also think if there are empty days, just accept it and start again wherever you are. If you go back and fill them later, great, but if I think "I need to catch up the days I missed before I start writing again" I know I never will.

I really like that way of looking at it! I felt like I needed to fill every day, but when it’s been a while the idea of going back keeps me from starting again. Thank you so much for the advice!

I also keep a 5-year journal (but not Hobonichi) and if I am traveling or will be out for a long period, I will jot some entries on my phone and write it on the journal when I get back. That way I don't have to rack up my brain to remember what happened and it's easier to just copy what I wrote. My 5-year journal is not A5 size, so I think having a smaller space to fill up was no pressure as well.
My advice is you can try that technique out, or if you take photos on a daily basis (esp. when traveling), you can use those to jog your memory. You also don't need to fill the entire space. But if you need to backtrack for 3 weeks...yeah that can be a chore. If it were me, I'd keep a small notebook to take with me to jot the daily happenings, or just use my phone for the same purpose.

Yes exactly! I did that on my latest trip with my A6 journal I mentioned in this video so it wasn’t too bad 😊 I appreciate the reminder too of not having to fill up the whole space, I think I feel like I have to but I really don’t!! Thanks so much for sharing your advice 💖

So fun to watch this video Emily ❤ I always enjoy seeing other journal line ups. On the 5 year journal maybe you can add stickers/quotes to the days that you didn’t write in. I think it would be fun to see that in there when you complete the journal.

Thank you Belinda! I like that idea of filling the space still, may try that 💖

Hello. I use my 5 year for my DAILY gratitudes... Going on my 4th year on it and it's heart warming to read previous years. Thanks for sharing. Hugs from Seattle!!
