This is the first step in my testing of a new wild clay. I make several test bars so that I can measure shrinkage and porosity, and see what color it fires at various temperatures. Future videos will get into the details of what to do with these test bars after firing.
These tests will tell me what firing temperature is best for the clay, how to formulate a good glaze, whether this clay will be strong and vitrified for dinnerware, or if it will be porous.
