Am I the only one who heard Akuma say his parents were Christian because of tradition but not devout. Yet he also said that he "grew up quite religious" at 2:53. In spite of that... blunder, I want to say thank you to Akuma. Because to me he has made Islam shine in this interview. He said Islam was simple and "not wishy washy or watered down to fit my criteria" , he was welcomed and embraced, etc . Even Bob said that Islam was strong and simple. Now when asked what caused the first doubt about Islam. He said it was that He couldn't pray. Then it was that he couldn't take the rituals because it became a chore & instead of a relationship. So basically to sum it up. Akuma, after at most 2 months, decided he didn't want to follow Islam anymore not because it was bad or false teachings but because he didn't want to take time to build the relationship he spoke of & adjust to this new yet simple way of life. One who is a Muslim is one who prays, what is an essential part of praying? Reciting verses from the Qur'an, specifically the opening surah of the Qur'an, which is recited during EVERY SINGLE PRAYER multiple times...so for someone who claims to be a Muslim, not knowing something you repeated over 10 times a day, everyday...raises a lot of questions.
In future maybe these people should say they weren't practising Muslim, rather Muslim by name...but then I guess it wouldn't be such a big deal that they converted to Christianity, since they didn't choose one Polytheism over Monotheism...they just dropped one title and picked up another.

To be able to pray (salat) you have to be able to recite the fatah. Does that mean, when allah prays (salat) he is also reciting the fatah?
surah fatiha is must, you have to recite it during prayer. the reason this question is asked to prove the person ever performed any prayer. saying they were practicing muslim is a lie if you can't even recite it. 4 year old kids know it, it's easy to remember.
One thing you'll notice is he said in the starting he was tired of doing rituals and only "ritual" in Islam is performing prayer which is Salat. You cannot perform it without Surah Fatiha, so that basically gives him up and his lies to anyone that's Muslim. What were you doing and tired of, if you cannot even recite surah fatiha? Plus he goes on to say I did it for a month? Then near the end he said he didn't for nearly 10 years now. it just comes off shady and odd when he's questioned. I never said whole Quran, I said Surah Fatiha. quran.com/1 It's a really basic prayer that you simply cannot forget unless you are a absolute nonpracticing Muslim, in which case you aren't really considered much of a muslim. There are people that might not be really religious, but would occasionally pray so yes it is really important to know it. You cannot perform any prayer without it. To make things clear, by prayer I mean salat which consist of reciting several verses from Quran and it has to be done in a certain order. Not a typical prayer where you ask for forgiveness etc, it's a religious prayer that you have to perform 5 times a day, or as much as you can at least. Even if you just perform Salat once a day, once a week, once a month or even once a year, you have to know Surah Fatiha.

I see the Muslims in the comments section have started their conspiracy theories already. Let's analyse their arguments. Firstly, it is allowed in Islam for new converts who've not memorized the Fatiha in Arabic to pray in English. Secondly, imam Abu Hanifa, one of the greatest scholars of Islam and founder of one of the four Islamic legal schools, said that even a Muslim who does know the Quran in Arabic can pray in his own language because it draws him closer to Allah if he can understand what the prayers mean. Most Muslims are ignorant of this fact.
Thirdly, if the ex-Muslim was only pretending to have been a Muslim as part of a conspiracy by evil Westerners, why would the video maker not edit out the part of the testimony where he could not remember how to read Al-Fatiha to hide the evidence? Why not just delete it if it's a cunning plot?
