Officers witness remarkable squirrel rescue

- Just outside Minneapolis, police officers Jeremy Halek and Tony Weeks were driving around when they came across a rescue. Chris Felix, 19, was attempting to revive a squirrel, who had darted out in front of him. Steve Hartman has their story "On The Road."

You know, after having watched this again (after having asked an ESL student to watch it as homework), what strikes me is that yes, it was amazing to watch a young man take the time to try to revive a squirrel ("road kill/a little one") hit by a car but also that the little connections we make with people are one of the things that make life interesting and worthwhile. Maybe in the almost two years that have passed since this video aired these officers have run across Jeremy again and they all paused a few seconds to remember those few memorable minutes they shared. Who knows?

Years ago during a very hot spell in the summer when I was in my front yard i saw what looked like a chunk of bark from the flower bed on our driveway and went to toss it back on the bed. Turned out it. Was a frog who due to the heat hadn’t made it across the hot driveway. His skin was already hard and dry but I immediately thought about frogs have been used in some experiments where they stop and start their hearts. It was a slow day so I took it to the kitchen and began basting him with the turkey baster until he was rehydrated and when I held him up his legs were playable. At that point I began doing one finger chest compressions only because it seemed I had already committed too much time to the project to give up now.
He did come back and while he was blind in one eye (it had dried out too much) he lived a couple more years in the pond my oldest son had already created in our backyard as a Cub Scout project. Gus never ventured far from his pond.

That was awesome one time I a squirrel did the same to me but I got out and figured he was done for so I took him home and ate him... don't judge I'm from Alabama we hunt squirrel regularly they're a bushy tailed tree chicken but I hate to see any creature suffer good on this dude
