    Just saw this video and I think you did a great job. I joined the Louisiana Air National Guard in 1995 as an E1 and now I'm an O5. I come from the ghetto of uptown New Orleans. Among other great things and traveling the world, Ive been able to obtain an Associates, Bachelors and two Masters degrees through the Air Guard.. If I can do it, ANYONE can. Thank you for your service and again, great job!

      My hope is for anyone of age to join the Air Force N.G. the benefits seem enormously helpful and could allow for aggressive savings, business start-up and more. I wish I would've done this when eligible, too old now. One weekend a month is such a small time investment. 48 hrs is nothing. Besides, I've heard about the intangible benefits of enlisting such as developing discipline and doing things civilians would not have the option of doing. If you're not already enlisted best wishes creating a comfortable future whatever life choices you decide. We only live once.

    A warning to those thinking of signing up for the Air Guard (or Reserves) from a Guard/Reserve veteran....if you don't get presidentially activated or do long term AGR duty you won't have ANY veterans benefits at ALL. ZERO. You won't legally be a veteran without this unless you are service-disabled through the DOD or VA. On top of this, if you do get injured, Guard and Reserve do NOT have Presumption of Soundness or Presumption of Aggravation for VA claims as active duty vets have. There is also a higher standard of documentation required to prove service connection compared to active duty members. To make matters worse, the VA and the DOD will fight you tooth and nail to get service-connected no matter how much in-service medical evidence you have.
    I actually believe in the Guard/Reserve concept for the security of our country. But until people force Congress to change these horrible and unfair laws for Guard/Reserves by not signing up, it will keeping happening. You have been WARNED. -John

  • @JJ-gk9ri
    @JJ-gk9ri Před 2 lety +12

    Let me add to the difference between Guard and Reserve. Many people don't fully understand. Air Guard is run by the state and is typically much more "family-like" or "buddy-buddy". They bend the rules & regulations are little more. The educational benefits are also state-specific and typically, better. The Reserve is Federal. More "professional" than "family-like" and more strict with the rules. Also, their facilities tend to be a little nicer and bases a little bigger. The Reserve is supposed to be the 2nd line of defense after Active Duty, but lately the Guard gets deployed just as much despite their focus on defending the homeland. The Guard will help with state emergencies (natural disasters, etc) whereas the Reserve has no involvement in that. The Air Guard gets a bad rap, but personally, I think it's the best kept secret of any military branch.

    • @29thizzle
      @29thizzle Před 10 měsíci +2

      I have to correct you on some things so folks get a better picture: the Air National Guard is state AND federal. Although some states may operate a little different than others, EVERY unit is inspected and they get written up if found 'bending the rules'. Believe me, I know as I augment Inspectors' General teams. The Reserves are strictly federal, as you state. As far as atmosphere, it just depends on which unit in which state one joins, but no one should get the idea that they will just sit around and 'smoke and joke', so to speak. I have to agree with you that some Air Guard facilities are 'less than desirable', but folks can do a tour of the unit before joining. No one can force anyone to join; it's an individual decision. Definitely do the research and tour the areas.

I want to be a pilot and I guess this would be the place to do it since the academy gets first dibs. Greetings Sir from Fayetteville, NC.
    My name is Leontii Popov and yes indeed i really enjoyed your discussion of things what to do before joining ANG. Or as known by Air National Guard.
    I’m 20 years old and I’ll be 21 on April 7th this year.
    I have few things to ask as questions in this comment section.
    1. Where can I find a video of how basic military training looks like for Air National Guard?
    2. Is there any positions I can find for air national guard involving in business/logistics?
    Since I work in a small business veteran logistics company as a lead customer service position for 5 years since September 2019.
    3. Another question I have is that the BMT is 8.5 weeks training? Or 7 weeks training? Since one source says 7 weeks of BMT and other source says 8.5 weeks.
    4. I’ve also graduated from Jack Britt High School class of 2022 and I’ve attended marching band between 2018-2022 years. And in fall 2021 as a section leader for saxophones during my senior year.
    In addition to this 4th question; Do they have a great band program?

    Questions.
    1. FOMO on family. Although ANG is part time with more civilian lifestyles, do you recommend it for someone with children? Would non combat mos still have occurring deployments? Or long deployments My fear is missing out on my children while their young due to random long deployments.
    2. Calling home is a privilege in the guard, but how often are you able to call home during deployments if any?
    3. How often are deployments? Both state and federal and worldwide?
    4. Is six years the minimum on contracts or is there a smaller contract available?

If you are deployed you will be able to reach out as much as you want with your personal time.

      Hey! It’s very likely if you get that score. The only thing that might hinder you getting the job is if someone picks it before you. They have to offer all opening to everyone unless you can get her to hold the position for it. The sooner you test and get the score the better off you are.

    How often do you do your MOS when you go on the weekends?
    Obviously it's different, but my friend was in the army national guard for hvac. There wasn't really anyone there for his MOS. So he seldom did it. They'd go to the field, to the range, etc.
    That's a concern I have. A reason why I'd want to join is to gain experience in whatever MOS I choose. I don't expect to always be doing it. But I'd at least expect to be doing it a portion of the time when I go once a month. What is your experience with this? Thank you.

    • @aveontaefrazier
      @aveontaefrazier  Před 2 lety +5

      Okay so unfortunately the answer depends on a variety of factors. Side note we call it’s AFSC not MOS too. I would say the two biggest factors are going to be what job/squad you join with. Depending on your mission you will have more work or less to do. Personally I was in CE and I rarely did my job for drill because the civilian contractors along with my full time supervisor did the bulk of the work during the rest of the month.if you’re like security forces then you’ll do your job every drill.
      Even if you aren’t actively doing what you were trained to do then you will be tasked with something. Last note is that even if you have a career field like your friend and I you will have opportunity travel and work directly with your active duty counterparts doing the mission. That’s where most of my fun and job training happened.
      Hope that helps

    1. If I’m joining the Air National Guard, and want to go back to college, does my degree have to be something related to my job in the ANG? For ex: I want to do Medical Material in the ANG, but I’ve also been interested in pursuing a degree with something to do in sports as a side thing to further create more opportunities, would i be able to do that?
    2. After boot camp, when you show up for drills, do you HAVE to keep your head shaved since you’re part time only for the military? I’ve been getting mixed responses on that.
    3. If I plan on doing ANG, then college, while also a part time regular job on the side, do you think that would be possible if I were to manage my time correctly?
    4. Can I go to an Air Force recruiter for more info? Or do I have to go to an Air National Guard recruiter for more info?

    What’s good bro. I have a question about deployments in the guard. I don’t really want to ever be deployed and don’t care too much for traveling. I mainly view the guard as somewhat of a side hustle for me if I join. How do deployments work exactly? Do I have the choice to not be?

    • @aveontaefrazier
      @aveontaefrazier  Před 3 lety +7

      Therealk1ng So, good question. Honestly bro the simple answer is you sign up to defend the country so you could be told you will be deployed. That being said the much more complex answer is if you don’t want to deploy and there is enough manning to fill all spots you don’t have to. The guard works with you as long as you work with it. For example, right before I separated from the guard our unit got tasked with a deployment. I wanted to go on this one and they put my name up for it, but they filled all spots voluntarily and I couldn’t go. Others who didn’t want to go as long as they were junior enlisted got that choice. All up to leadership at your squadron and wing level.
      I’ll tell you that being deployed especially young is a great thing. It’s only a small portion of your life and you get lifetime benefits. Along with that you save money that whole period and it’s tax free. Just something to think about. I can’t wait to deploy.

That being said, I know there are other ways but the selectiveness is very high since most slots go to the academy then ROTC. On a separate note, you won’t have to pay for pilot training if the Air Force selects you. It might be a good idea to get a license separately though just to make your application look better. Okay so my question is...how does the Air National Guard work when you have a full time job? If i have a good paying job and looking to stay with my career....I guess Im really trying to wrap my head around that process.

    • @aveontaefrazier
      @aveontaefrazier  Před 3 lety +5

      Well the Air National Guard isn’t going to force you out the job. Job will have to be a bit flexible while you attend training but you can work a normal job and most do in the guard.

    I always wondered how deployment worked for people that are reservists or guard. I might consider either options after a certain point of being in but we shall see ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ need more info before I make that decision

      Yea a couple active people have asked me about it. It’s a good way to stay in if you don’t want to remain active. My commander was active for a long time but his family decided to make a change.

      Deployments depend of your AFSC. You could deploy once every 4-7 years ish.
