Powers Wheels Jeep Part 2 - Steering Alignment Fix

- Apparently all Power Wheels jeeps have this issue to some degree; The wheels sag and droop pretty much point in two different directions. When I upgraded the jeep to 24V and this thing really started moving, this problem became more and more apparent.
So today I decided to fix it! I approached the problem from 3 different angles, and in the end I think any one of these fixes would have worked, but I went overkilll and did all 3. Hope this helps!

FINALLY! This thing doesn't look like Steve Buschemi in Mr. Deeds anymore. I highly recommend doing something like this for the steering on your Jeep!

When it turned out that the aluminum was too thick, You could have always drilled out the center of the rod, tap it, and using a washer that fits over the rod tighten it down until the whole thing is snug with no slop but free rotation.

Have you threaded the rods yet so you can ditch the push nuts for actual washer/nut combo?
Tell me you're going to offer making and selling those knuckles. I have some larger jeep hurricanes that I'd be interested in getting solid knuckles for.
Did you get a hold of knuckles for your hurricane? Also looking for some myself!
You mention adding the turnbuckle to tighten up the tension as it loosens over time - could the steps to reinforce the brackets and 3d print new knuckles be eliminated and just have the turnbuckle?
What did you use for the print? PLA, PETG, ...? Also what brand? Just got my kid one of these off facebook and looking to do a few upgrades. Great stuff!

What if you have a ATV Hunter's tight jump and when you turn the steering wheel right the wheels go left and vice versa

Hey guys I got an alignment issue and need help. It's for the rollplay silverado 2 seater. My front tires toe "IN" after a crash. Not like the jeeps that toe out. Also I have positive camber.
Also my steering knuckle is designed different and faces forward
So when do we get the "adding a V8 to my kids power wheels"?

I bought my kid a used F150 PW for $50. I've starting upgrading the electronics, but sorely need to address the steering rack. I really want to install pneumatic tires. Any thoughts? I am seriously considering asking the guys at work to machine them from a block of aluminum.
If you beef up the friction on the tires, you'll definitely need to do something. Carving it from a block of aluminum would work but may be a bit overkill. I basically rebuilt the existing PW steering system, but if you're going with real tires you might want to consider reinventing the wheel a bit (pun intended). I'm sure you can make a beefier system that will work better (good luck!).
@@PatchBOTS I've threaded the front "axle" piece at the top to replace the push nuts and remove vertical slop. I also just got done stiffening the plastic steering arm by sandwiching it between a couple pieces of aluminum flat stock. It's a start, I guess.
I just bought a Lil jeep for my kid for christmas.. I put it together and the steering is extremely hard to turn.. how do I fix it? I followed all the directions and did it the way the videos told me to. I'm sure sure why it's almost impossible to turn.

@@voicicheznous5854 Oh i get what you're saying. Yeah they are just bike cable crimps. Honestly you can forego the whole turnbuckle/bike cable thing. I find it to be not really necessary

Hi, yeah sure the file is linked in the description. It's a pretty beefy piece so you probably print in PLA and be fine, but I used PETG just in case.
@@PatchBOTS Just wanted to make sure I'm looking at the correct file. When I click on the 3D file for Steering knuckle link, it takes me to PowerWheels24v, and then under the Part2-Steering there's SteeringKnuckle1.stl, and SteeringKnuckle2.stl. I'm guessing one is the left and one is the right. Is there a trick to downloading the files?
@@sbostic4482 You are correct. The parts are identical, just mirrored for each side. When you click the part and get the model preview, you should see a "download" button on the top right. Right click that link and hit "Save Link as" to get it in an STL form.
@@PatchBOTS Great, thank you. One last question. On Shapeways it’s asking for Units and the options are MM, M, and IN. Do you know which I should choose?

The files for the printed knuckles are available for free on my GitHub linked in the description. There are a lot of 3D printing facebook groups/subreddits/services that can print them for you. I'd recommend finding a facebook group and get someone to print for you. Don't let them charge you more than $20.

Way too much uneccessary work! All that is needed is hot glue in the knuckles and pinch tight the sleeves then tack weld to cross member for steering. All done!! Leave rivets alone
