    Good video for beginners but the reason it is 0-255 is actually really good! It gives you a lot finer control, and you can get a lot more out of one channel (ex. macros)
    It’s also all based on binary control, so you get two states (0 and 1)^8 -1=255. Each channel is one byte of data in 8 bit configuration. That’s why if you have 16 bit pan/tilt you have 4 channels for pan/tilt.

      hello sir, you seem extremely knowledgeable about this, im wondering if i can bother you for some specialised advice - i just bought three cheap little DMX lights and a USB to DMX which i am controlling using QLC+, i only do small pubs and i want these three little lights to uplight my little show using my laptop, im just happy enough with a colour wash but,
      I use midi foot percussion and would love it if i could trigger lights flashing by using the midi signals from my kick drum to make the lights flash when i hit the kick, but only on certain scenes - then have our wonderful bassist to simply trigger though maybe 8 different scenes using some sort of midi foot controller ...
      so essentially the midi foot controller would cycle and chose the scenes, then the midi from my drum module would tell the lights on these scenes to flash
      im just wondering if this is all indeed possible? like will the midi info from the module to trigger the lights work, and will it kill the sounds from the module because those midi signals are now being used to trigger DMX info and not the kick sample? many thanks in advance

    Psst. when you say that most fixtures have channel modes of 1-5 its worth pointing out that with professional movers (such as the ones on big arena concert stages that i work with) they can have modes with up to 30 channels.
    Also, generally, you don't need strobe to be at full for the light to come on if the dimmer is full. However, Sometimes with cheaper or low-end fixtures or when a fixture is in a lower channel mode they have the channel 'split' in a similar way to what you talked about with the strobe on this hex but generally speaking putting strobe at full will make the fixture strobe (flash) very fast and leaving it off will leave control over brightness completely to the dimmer. This sort of thing completely depend on the fixture and mode.
    Finally, if your wondering why there is an 'A' before the address on the lights instead of a 'D' it is short for address.
    I just read over that and realized it probably made no sense, oh well

    @DJ Barr just an observation, 1-100 would not be as good as that would only allow 100 movement steps for something like a moving head, so you wouldn't be able to control the movement as precisely.

    1) do set up scenes for every color.
    2) by running those wifi lights in your trust it allows you to control the moving heads without donners
    3) when patching up lighting do you do only one element par or multiple.

    DMX can be a pain in the ass but it is rewarding. I've originally learned on a Acclaim board, ETC (Most theaters use them), to Whole Hog (TV studio I worked at had it but it is for major events) and GrandMA is now the new standard for events. I still have a few lights from those days but unfortunately they do not work on the ADJ or Chauvet set ups. (3-pin DMX vs 4-pin DMX)

    Hey where did you get the manual print out? I bought a pair of ADJ Vizi 5’s second hand and I don’t have the paperwork. I patch them in and can’t get them to respond to the appropriate channels. Considering trying Airstream Pro app on the iPad instead of the regular Airstream app. Thoughts?

  • @isettech
    @isettech Před 4 lety

    Read your light manual. My PARS have the strobe disabled at 0 for normal light operation, then strobe from slow to fast, then the top turns on Sound activated. Different manufactures are different, so on my lights the strobe/shutter is left at 0. Pro tip, ADJ wireless is nice, but at a cost. It supports ADJ WiFly and E-FLY wireless products and fixtures. B&H has it listed for $439.99. It's fine for the mobile DJ who can work in one universe per output and not include addressable pixel strips on the truss.
    I was on a budget and occasionally get over extended on the address space with fixtures such as PAR's taking 4-12 channels each, Moving head with Pan Tilt, Fine for each, Gobo, Gobo rotate, Gobo shake, etc, Movers can use up to 30ch each. One universe (512 channels on one DMX cable string) can support a maximum of 17 30 channel fixtures or only one string of addressable pixels with 170 3 channel pixels. For this reason I use a network to carry several universes of DMX. Look up Artnet to DMX or E1.31 DMX over Ethernet Devices. You can get a full 4 universe interface for under $100 delivered if you shop around. Some devices instead of putting out DMX on the box, will put out the protocol for driving the Addressable Pixels. They can Combine several DMX universes onto one pixel string to exceed the 170 Pixel limit on one universe.
    With the industry standard Artnet or SACN (Streaming ACN) also known as E1.31 standard, you can use software that supports common industry Ethernet Standards. I have a wireless router and a 6 universe E1.31 to DMX converter together. I can switch one or more of the Outputs to directly output WS2811/WS2812 protocol instead of DMX so I can use one or more universes in addressable pixels on the trusswork and booth. Most of the time I use a laptop, connect to the router over wireless, and start the software. You can buy software or use free software that supports the protocol. Full coordination of the ADJ bridge is almost impossible out of the box. A DMX to WS2812 converter is required.
    Freestyler supports Artnet with 1 universe. QLC+ supports E1.31 with multiple universes, which is what I use. I tend to avoid propitiatory solutions because it prohibits Mixing or Matching components or software. This running on an IOS tablet will be a problem if your tablet or the device breaks The software will not talk to other industry standard interfaces. Vendor lock in limits what you can mix and match. Sorry, not compatible with Android or a Laptop. Carry a spare IOS tablet and have a backup plan. I have 2 router/interface units and 2 laptops ready to roll for the lights for larger shows. If I have WiFi frequency problems, I can always plug in the CAT 5 cable and not use the wireless. I keep it handy. Never needed it yet.

    • @isettech
      @isettech Před 4 lety

      I was going to add another note about the ADJ interface vs Laptop Softtware. ADJ you save the strobe into a "Scene". In the software I use, I can program a "Scene" and turn on specific channels for what the scene controls. For example the scenes for the "Strobe or Shutter" are active on the Shutter Channel only. I can have a full rainbow of color chasing, and add strobe to the rolling color rainbow, instead of using the strobe scene with a per-assigned color. In addition Scenes can be "Exclusive" so my button bay for color turns on the selected color and fades out the prior color, but does not touch the fader, strobe, or effects channels, or Pan/Tilt for movers. Those effects and motion are in separate button matrix areas. The gobo for Hearts is a button. Pan and tilt for all fixtures to hit the center of the dance floor, a run once chase. It runs once, ends and leaves the lights positioned. A looping chase sweeps the lights while running. Several chases of motion mix it up. The color selections are independent. A slider for the dimmer can bring down the entire display for the slow dance. My fixture list with pixels is 4 universes for larger shows. Small band gigs use just uprights and no truss for just one universe. Use with a large 15 inch touch screen laptop makes operation easy after programming everything. Just an FYI, most par lights will Display the A for DMX as it is in the ADDRESS mode, not the DMX Number of Channels MODE, usually designated No or Ch.
      Do you know if the ADJ interface and software can treat a mover motion separately from the color functions? Keeping functions separate from colors is very nice if you have it.

    As a comment, there is a reason that it goes from 0-255 and it's not what you think. It has nothing to do with the creator of DMX but rather simple electronics. Electronics and computers tend to work off of a base with 256, but start at 0 rather than one which is why it is 0 to 255. You will see this with anyone who programs with a programming language for computers, writes assembly language, or builds things with say an Arduino or raspberry pie. Another example is RAM. ROM, and hard drive memory which is built off of this same numbering base. 256, 512, 1024, 2048 and so on. So please don't hammer the creators of DMX for something they had no control over. It is better to learn it and why; than to harp on it and except why it is they way it is.

    Thanks for the tutorial. However, you talk sooo fast. Remember, we're dummies so we are not able to take in the info too rapidly.

      I'm a dummy at this too, but I know what the rewind 10 sec button is too.
      You weren't speaking to fast in my opinion.

      I’ll just give you just 1 reason even though there was more... you don’t need to bring your Strobe/Shutter fader up, you just pick your colour and turn up the Dimmer fader to the brightness you want. If you bring up your strobe fader and your program has a master fader, when you fade out you won’t get a smooth fade out in colour as it will start strobing on its way out!
