This song is from the late 40's Disney classic "Ichabod and Mr Toad". It is sung by the character Bram Bones (voiced by Bing Crosby). In the early 60's Disney released "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" on vinyl and there was a cover of this song by Thurl Ravenscroft (You're a Mean one Mr Grinch, Tony the Tiger). This is the version Geoff is covering. Geoff has said one of his singing influences is Thurl Ravenscroft. The singing busts on the desk are an homage to the barbershop quartet in Disney's haunted mansion. Thurl Ravenscroft did a lot of voice work for Disney and the bass head bust in the Haunted Mansion barbershop quartet is part of that work.
Geoff's ability to mimic that thick dark tone of Thurl's kills me every time. Often imitated but rarely reproduced. Usually you need a much deeper natural (speaking) voice than most basses have, including Geoff. His technique is awesome.
What's really impressive at how close he is to Thurl. Someone did a comparison with Thurl on one ear and Geoff on the other. Pretty amazing hearing them at the same time.
Came here to say exactly this, very well put
One of the many things I love about this one, is his articulation when singing. In his more country pieces, I've heard reactors criticize his slurring of words. It is obviously a creative choice in everything he does.
Thanx, Jen for reacting to this one!
Ah yes! Thank you😁
_Geoff and the Castelluccis'_
I hope he sees this and actually uses it as the name of his solo act.
That is so simple, yet so brilliant! xD
His cover of Shenandoah is absolutely beautiful. It shows his impressive range so well.
That one is quite pretty.
Yes! I love this one. Definitely worth checking out.
Could not agree more!
I feel sorry for those singers on the right... stuck in their head voice the whole song!
Geoff is one of the two basses I look up to the most. The other is Tim Foust. They both do things in their low ends that I so want to do with my own low end.
Every year when I was growing up they would play this on the wonderful world of Disney in the Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. done in 1949 and sung by Bing Crosby. I always love it growing up and I love Geoff's cover even more.
I think the Jungle Book feel you were thinking was specifically Shere Khan. At least, that's what Geoff sounded like when they covered "That's What Friends Are For" as a VoicePlay mini
Please don't eat me! Layne stealing it..
His glottal stops are some of the smoothest I have ever heard.
Looking forward to when you are able to get to his covers of 16 tons and Blackbird.
His low notes are impressive, but what really impresses me is the consistent tone and HOW LONG he can sing those lows notes with complete control.
So good. The look on your face on his last note was priceless.
13:45 I think of you're thinking of the song "We Are Friends" from the old animated Jungle Book movie. Where the Tiger (Sheer Khan or something) sings in a slow decent of bass notes "That's what friends are for".
Loved your reaction on this one and Geoff’s ability to put so much tone on his subharmonics is what makes his lowest register so impressive. Sad though that you won’t get to hillbillies- vs - zombies with voice play and home free and a guest! Another great job on this one Jen! Low bass Kenneth
Ah noooo🙈 how annoying! Thank you though!
I know, man, his subharmonic tone is some of the best. I have been accused of using growl because of how boomy my subharmonics are... it's like I go straight from chest-fry to an octave drop, and the fry sound disappears slightly. Geoff has the best subs in the game and nobody will convince me otherwise.
The song in the hillbillies verses zombies is I’m a survivor!
The Disney reference to this one is 'The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad' and for me Geoff nailed it with all the visuals going on in the video 😊 And I'm so glad to see you enjoying this one while still being able to analyse it, for this one I really get caught by all the visuals and giggle all the way through because of it 😄
You know you’ve been listening to Geoff Castellucci awhile when you say, “Oh, that’s just an F1.” LOL.
I guess Geoff has mentioned that one of his influences was Thurl Ravenscroft. You can definitely hear it in this one.
BTW, Bobby Bass has a version of this song on his channel-much more stripped down in terms of the theater, but it’s fun to hear him sing/narrate it. You can hear a bit of GEOFF influence in his. It must be cool to be one of the basses that new young basses want to emulate.
Great reaction as always, Jen!
amazing how the bodyless geoffs were singing with HEAD voice
Others may disagree but to me, eye patched head is Jeoff, the Jeff, and in the hat is Goff. Jeff is my favorite. 😂😂
I can't make up my mind, somehow I thought of eye- patch as Goff, but can't explain why. Wont contradict you.
Hmmm. You could be right.
I love the man and his wonderful skills ,even if he frequently does jumps that are beyond my entire range !!!!!!
Glad you waited a year for this! Well worth the wait for more Halloween goodness :D
Your reaction is the treat I needed today; Happy Halloween 🍁🍂💀🎃✨💖!!! Your enthusiasm will take me through Christmas 🌲🎄☃️✝️🕎
Yeah Shere Khan does something similar to that last drop in the Jungle Book in the song "That's What Friends are For."
I was waiting years for this to happen!!! Finally the time has come
😁😁
Happy Halloween Jen!! So happy you're reacting to this song...one of my favorites by Geoff. This is originally from The Adventures of Icabod and Mr. Toad by Disney. It was originally sung by Bing Crosby.
Ah thank you!😁
@@JenniferGlatzhofer @Sherryth
True, but Geoff has stated that he was actually channeling the Thurl Ravenscroft version. There's even a video from the time this came out where someone put Geoff in one speaker and Thurl in the other so you can listen to them side by side!
Geoff is a fan of Thurl Ravenscroft, who is deserving of a deep dive on his own. Thurl did this song in 1963,.
Yes! Here's Thurl's version: czcams.com/video/04uPTBoZiUg/video.html
This was fun. Somehow I haven't seen this video either! Your facial expressions when listening to Geoff are quite entertaining. :)
Oooh new one for you 😁 haha thank you!
Hi Jen ! I Love your react and analisys videos, but It would be great to see more vídeos where you are singing by your own, you have a great voice !!!
Ah thank you 😊
Happyhappyhappy me! I waited a year for this! It was worth the wait. One critique though, Jen, you need to work on you scary laugh. You looked way to cute to scare anyone. You made my day and once again you made me literally laugh out loud. Great reaction young lady!
😂😂 haha noted! Thank you!
Also i like to get your attention on the three Heads. Because they obviously have no Body, they just sing in Headvoice!😄😂
I have somehow managed to miss this one by Geoff, so it was a pleasure watching it with you! Hope you are well 🤗😊
I'd say the disney vibes on the final "Beware" could stem from Lion King, where the phrase is 'be prepared' - gives me somewhat the same vibe, but ascending.
Ooh yes!
I think you might enjoy listening to some of the work done by Thurl Ravenscroft, he did the low Bass work for Disney, (This song included )as well as the voice of Tony the Tiger, and the sung parts of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
end of geoff its the same like when the tiger sings in jungle book....thats what friends are for
This man would've made Thurl Ravencroft proud. This cover is absolutely amazing 👏 now I'm wondering if he'll ever cover..... "asleep in the deep". Many bass are scared to do it but if any man can serve that song justice it will be geoff
I love this one! Worth the wait, didn't Jennifer? 😊🌷
The reference at the end was from The Jungle Book. "That's what friends are for!" -Shir Khan
I like how the 3 heads use their "Head" voice. Sorry someone had to say it lol.
Serious nerd out by Jen! Love the humor in this as well as the musicality.
😁😁thanks!
Did you notice that all the of the backing Geoffs stayed in their head voice the whole time? They didnt have a choice! 😆
That note you were thinking of at the end is from The Jungle Book when the tiger who is voiced by Jeremy Irons I believe sings that low note in the song we are friends which is the turkey vultures that are singing
You were thinking of the vultures in The Jungle Book towards the end, there. Very Barbershop Quartet, and Shere Khan hits a GLORIOUS low note very much like Geoff does, here. :)
Great job you did great happy Halloween dear
Sher khan. "That's what friends are for." The Disney's version of The Jungle Book. The vulture song. I thought the same thing when I 1st heard That load note in this song. Took me right back to that scene
Didn't get to read all the comments, but on Geoff's line "you can not reason" I think you are thinking of Shere Khan (Bill Lee) from Jungle Book singing the line "That's what friends are for." It's a similar descending line/notes!
VoicePlay did that as a mini. Geoff takes it a bit lower than the original. 😉
Yes! That’s the one😁
You're thinking of the Jungle Book tiger, Shere-Kahn, "that's what friends are for,".
Happy Halloween Jen!
This was a fun one for sure and a nice one to finish the spooky season on. 👍
I posted a few suggestions for Floor videos under the last reaction to her, so no new suggestions here..
p.s. how about "Geoffettes" for the BV Geoffs? 😀
I'd suggest (what reminds me of) George Sanders, Shir Khan, "That's what friends are for ..."
Yes, those last deep notes remind me of Shere Khan on "The Jungle Book"! It also reminds me of the Marianas Trench at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean! LOL!
Yes Jen that was a fun little tune.
Love it! Was hoping you'd react to this one!
Thank you 😁
His vocal range is crazy. This was really fun, Jen
Schirkan at the Dschunglebook
This friend is here
Thats what u are reminded 😂
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤️
And you!!😁
From "Ichabod and the Toad" by Disney. This one is kinda old but Geoff will surprise you with his vocal range once again in this VoicePlay medley of hits from Queen here: czcams.com/video/krcU5xmlzqA/video.html
Maybe reminding you of the Shere Khan singing part "that's what friends are for" 🙂
The only regret I have from my youth is not exploring singing and VO work. Even in my advanced age, my voice gets compared to Sam Elliot, the VO for Arthur (Red dead2), and the VO for ford truck commercials. As young as 11 yo, I was singing in church and school as the only bass. During the Karaoke era of the 90's, I teamed up with a friend to sing song from The Righteous Brothers, Diamond Rio, and others, but my low self esteem wouldn't let me take it seriously. The moral is, if people are telling you, you have a talent, explore it. See where it will take you. Don't settle for being a deep voiced truck driver.
Well, I am 46 and currently getting into VO work. Problem is, had a few coaches tell me my overall voice is slightly too deep, lol. Said I need to work on bringing my average vocal frequency up a bit. Not a humble brag, either... it's actually a pain in the arse.
@@johndeeregreen4592 Fortunately, it's more natural to build your higher range when you have a deep voice, because you just need to strengthen the muscles to get the tighter cords. I'm a high tenor and can add resonance, but no chance of having a really deep sound!
Love how his three 'little brothers' there effortlessly slide up into their 'head voices'! (Truthfully, the only voices they have left, since their 'accidents'....) 🎃
You are thinking of the Jungle Book when Bagira is singing to Mogli about Sher'kan. Ugh, or I should say Baloo is singing LOL!
Happy Halloween 🎃 beautiful Jen💖
I love your reactions!
Jennifer, I think you are thinking of the Jungle Book when Shere Khan starts to sing That's what friends are for with the Vultures. Geoff's ending for this song (with that drawn out slide) is very similar to Shere Khan's ending of his song.
please do we're good by voice play it will be great to see you break it down!!!!
Most people don't notice that the "heads" backup singers are all Geoff.
I hope you will react to "you're a mean one mr grinch", its a voiceplay cover and Geoff is amazing in that song
Jennifer! Yes I know, a day late. But I'm catching up. Love the Halloween earrings! But the nails! No nail color! You do use your hands a lot (half Italian after all) so it's easy to notice. 😁 Well this one is interesting. Definitely in keeping with the theme for the day. 🎃 Those singing heads! You certainly got some low note singing practice in today! Me too ... I was actually able to follow Geoff on that octave drop on "headless horseman". But I could not hit that last note of the song. 😯 Disney ... yeah maybe Baloo does hit some low notes in "Bear Necessities"? Can't recall. Anyway this was a fun little song and your reaction and analysis was brilliant as always Jennifer. 😊
Ahaha no nail colour 😱 definitely a sign that I’ve been very busy!! But thank you 😊 daily bass notes practise complete!
Avi Kaplan "Change on the Rise"
Voiceplay did a “shorts” video of the jungle book song with the buzzards song where Kahn comes in at the end. It reminded me of that.
Jen, quick question for you: are you always this happy? I mean, as happy as you look in your videos...
If you are, it should be great to run into you!!!
Love from here...
How nice it is that you still have some videos unreacted to. Further treats for us to come.
i think its a cool touch that for the 'Heads' he only sang using his 'Head' voice, no chest because they dont have one xD
You should check out the version from Disney’s Headless Horseman where Thurl Ravenscroft performs it. He’d be proud of the way Geoff performed it.
🎃Happy Halloween Jennifer🎃
I'm pretty sure in Geoff's last cadenza part you were thinking of the Jungle Book and Shere Khan's suprise bass cadenza in That's what Friends are for. That's what it reminded me of anyway.
You had it right... m-f-n f1. Great reaction!
Jen. Next video could you give an example of an unconnected voice? just for reference.
Try the black unicorn / white unicorn by Alexander James Adams
The laughing at the very end sounds like the track from Oogie Boogie Song.
I'm telling you brother (@5:06) these reactions are fire!
❤@15:47
Please check out "Epic Disney Villains Medley - Peter Hollens feat. Whitney Avalon", you'll really love it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the heads singing in their 'HEAD' voice?
His videos are so well done! He and the Voiceplay crew put out a super spooky Halloween video you REALLY should check out! C’mon, just one more! It’s called Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) featuring Lauren Paley (The Stairway Siren of TikTok fame…who is also phenomenal!
On my channel 😊
@@JenniferGlatzhofer 🤦🏼♂️
I’m a dork. Sad thing is…I watched it…and still forgot.
I understand that this was done in his parents' home, before Voiceplay had a studio. Geoff just looked around and found stuff for the decorations. How genius is that?
Hi Jen
If you wanna hear a great song listen to Honeybee by Steam Powered Giraffe you'll love it and Red Sovine's Teddy Bear will make you cry
I can kinda follow geoffs voice notes on this song
That note on man sounds very similar to The Nightmare Before Christmas note when he says oogie boogie man and Oogie Boogie Man song voice play
So the Head busts are taking the "Head voice" ? 🙂
react to kevin olusola - Down (Marian Hill KOver) - incredible!!
Oogie boogie song shows geoff's real range.
Do the 3 corpseless head use only head voice to sing ???? 🙂
Of course!
The 3 Geoff's are quite literally his head voice.
Geoff is paying homage to one of his singing idols, Thurl Ravenscroft. Here's an amazing side-by-side comparison of Geoff and Thurl covering this song: czcams.com/video/Li9q1p8fW8w/video.html
React To BEATBOX! SHOW GO - 'Silver' Spectacular!!!!
Head voice heads.
Was the song you were thinking of at the end the ending of That's What Friends Are For from Jungle Book?
I think it was 😁
@@JenniferGlatzhofer First time I've listened to it in a while, and I just said to myself that it was like that bit of that song, then you mentioned that it reminded you of something 🤣
@@JenniferGlatzhofer funnily enough voiceplay has a cover of that's what's friends are for

uploaded a minute ago? neat
Do the heads all use their head voice? :V
The only voice they have :)
OK Jen I'm getting used to your reaction style. Listening to my own low voice (amateur), I can sing with Geoff. I like to use the deep notes because my chest and voicebox are vibrating too! 😊
