    You got it exactly backwards and I bought two of these because of your video and I am one happy camper. You demonstrated beyond any doubt that this is the best battery for the money. Let me explain.
    The sticky stuff is slastic and it is a good thing. It prevents the vibration that causes copper wire to fail from 'work hardening'. The solder blobs are are good thing - they reduce resistance and act as a heat sink. The short bolts are in spec as you can put several combinations of 60 amp connectors on and still get three full turns. The foam is a great thing, not just good, if you plan on transporting in a car. Dropping on a corner or slamming in a car door cause no damage to internals, as would be the case with almost all other batteries. The temp test was within spec - 79 is within the 75 +- 5 range. And while true that it did not cut off on over current, a 60 amp BMS surviving a 90 amp dump for 10 minutes is freaking stellar, so I would conclude it did not need to cut off (that said, I use 25 amp fuses for my use case.) While there was not a typical temp sensor, there are other ways to monitor temp and you did not show they were not using an alternate method (I don't think they are, but for my use case, I don't care.)
    But wait, there is more (see replies to this comment) .

      The problem I had in making a decision is the reviews on lithium batteries in general, are bad. But after weeks of looking at different batteries and hundreds upon hundreds of reviews, I realized that the complaints were basically the same for all lithium batteries. Even for the so called, top of the line batteries. So the reasonable conclusion is that the complaints relate to the reviewers state of knowledge about the generic product and not anything about the specific product.
      And that really is the heart of the matter - especially for those experienced with lead batteries - the technology and behavior are entirely different than what we are used to. The learning curve is steep because none of the tried and true applies anymore. They don't act the same, charge the same, store the same, or suffer the same problems. You need different chargers, different charge profiles, and most important, you have to know your use cases.
      About 'use cases'. If you plan to draw high current on a regular basis or as part of normal daily operation, that is quite different than occasional high current, or rare high current. Likewise, there is a difference between daily life support (wheelchairs, handicap scooters) and the truly important things in life, like trolling motors and beer coolers. And using LiFePO4's as your energy back up is different than using them to stabilize a small solar array. You have to know your uses cases or else you are just making a fashion purchase.
      It costs money to learn poker, and even more to learn Lithium.

    • @johninhadley5441
      @johninhadley5441 Před 2 lety +6

      A little more about uses cases and cost. I have never had a handicap scooter battery last for three whole years. The first time you are too tired to take it out of the car in winter, the batteries are damaged forever. That is the main reason I bought lithium - I don't have to take it out of the car every time. 50 AH is way over kill for replacing a 35 AH AGM, but I have a second use case, which is to make my 500 watt solar array useful in day time only. I am not using the batteries to store power at night, but rather to just balance the system. For both use cases, the batteries never come close to going below 30% charge, and so should get a lot more cycles in their lifetime. While it did not occur to me at time of purchase, I realized that I did not need to buy a new battery for the camper as the pair of 50 AH batteries is more power than what they would be replacing. So in my case, the choice was $400 US to satisfy all my needs, or multiple AGM batteries - 35's for the scooter, and a 150 for the camper and solar. If they make it the 7-10 years they are supposed to, then they are half to one third the cost of AGM. Note this is not at all the same as using them for a trolling motor or beer cooler, where you will fully drain the batteries every use, but use them less often. Also, the previous use cases are not the same as constant high power drains, like running high wattage appliances. If you don't know your use cases, then you are just making a fashion purchase.

      @@DCGUY No Problem. Glad to help. These tear down videos are important for those of us who don't follow the rules. And your review of the fake MPPT controller was huge eye-opener for me. One other thing I noticed. I could not find where the manufacturer (Eco-Worthy) made any claims on this particular battery as to temperature or high current protection. I have only seen those claims on eBay, Amazon, Walmart, Ali-Express and most other re-sellers. If you did see it from eco-worthy, could you post the link?

    • @DCGUY
      @DCGUY  Před 2 lety +5

      I'm going by the data sheet I received with the battery when I bought it, you would have them too with your batteries. Specifically states Max charge voltage 14.5v, Discharge Temperature range - 20 - 50⁰c Max discharge 60A. Temperature control 75⁰c and so on. The bms manufacturers told me via email that over temperature protection was built into the BMS as well. Their websites (dot com and UK) show over voltage protection. I personally like the eco worthy battery's they offer value for money and I'm still using 4 x 100ah daily. In case you are perhaps thinking, I do my best to give unbiased views and want people to make informed choices not based on sponsorship or paid promotions. People will buy what they can afford and if used properly e.g not pulling too many amps they are fine. My concern is the fact the battery BMS didn't cut off as I expected. Again thanks for taking time to comment, I do appreciate the feedback.

    I have bought months ago 2 x 30ah for parallel.
    And opened them the day of delivery.. For the purpose of my needs they are okay!
    I was disappointed to, the bms inside reeds 25ah and NO temperature sensors in both 👎🏼..
    Tested the 30ah delivery test, and both Succeeded.

    Hello, thank you for the detailed tairdown. If I gently press on the casing of my 30Ah Eco Worthy, you can hear the foam/tape crackle very slightly. I'm not impressed by the pouch cells so I'll use this for extremely light loads from now on. I bought an Ecotree Lithium 12V 24Ah battery a couple of weeks a go and the M5 terminals are much deeper and you get a pack of brand new insulated M5 screws. My Eco Worthy's screws were slightly stripped when it arived but the case had no marks. Thankfully capacity is spot on. The Ecotree uses cylindrical cells and you can't hear any tape crackling if you push extremely hard on the case. The battery is sealed but capacity and a sustained 2C output are bang on with a 3C surge for a few seconds plus you get a 6 year warrantee with a proper UK company with UK staff who don't write in Chinglish. They provide all the UN38.3 certification numbers as well which is reassuring.
    In future, it would be good if you could look into Ultramax 12V LFP batteries both the standard lead acid case varients as well as the golf trolley type which use T-bars and standard Powerpoles as the golf trolley varients can sustain 25A and burst to 35A for a few seconds with no issues considering how compact they are. I use a 18Ah golf trolley battery with my SG2 and 8TB 3.5 HDD and Victron 250W all using standard PP connecters with a lot of curious questions from the public who are interested in the battery specs.
    Sorry my comment is so long I love your review style and all the detail so please keep the videos coming.

      Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I really appreciate the feedback. I've been looking at the different battery suppliers in the UK including renogy and the one you mention. There are not that many out there, our cousins across the pond have lots of choice. Pouch cells aren't all bad, they are common for smaller capacity batteries as are cylinder cells. Again thanks for the feedback 😀

    From what I can see in the video, the quality of the soldering looks fine. It may not be pretty, but nothing looks cold or anything. It's perfectly fine.
    If they had more heat energy, it would have flowed better. There is a lot of metal there pulling the heat away.

    I am looking for a lithium battery for my boat, I already have 2 trojan 6v T105, but I need more energy for the days without sun.
    I am planning to add a distinct circuit, from solar panel to socket using a lithium battery.
    Am I correct, in thinking that for lithium batteries, it is better to have a smaller battery that goes trough all the capacity rather than a larger one that very rarely get discharged ?
    Thank you again.

    • @DCGUY
      @DCGUY  Před 2 lety +2

      You really need to size a battery to any potential demands that will be placed on it. An undersized batteries life span will be significantly shortened if its over working. Depth of discharge is greater with lifepo4 but as with any battery chemistry the harder it's working, the shorter the lifespan. I'd rather oversize my battery than potentially undersize, especially on a boat.

Not too bad but it is only spring here in southern California. I can't imagine temps when it's full on summer.
    And now with your findings of no temp cutoff sensor concerns me. I will reach out to the mfg tomorrow about it.

Check how long the seller has been in business, ask what cells are used, what bms etc.. If in business under 3 years move on. Always check reviews, look at one star reviews too. Pay with PayPal. Be prepared to wait as they usually have to be shipped not flown. Consider buying cells and going DIY. EVE cells are good but often faked. Check with Amy Zheng of Docan Power for availability they are the manufacturer of eve.

    Never buy these. They ship 7ah in the larger case and hope you don’t catch it. Never buy these.
