  • Sarah Michelle Gellar is speaking out after her former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" co-star Charisma Carpenter came forward with allegations that Whedon "abused his power on numerous occasions" and facilitated a "hostile and toxic" work environment on the set of "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel." Whedon's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Access Hollywood. Gellar, who portrayed the iconic title character on "Buffy," issued a statement on Instagram hours after Carpenter's claims, writing in part: "While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don't want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon. … I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out."

So many of these big industry players have been accused of, and admitted to, this kind of loathsome abuse, and every one of them should get the punishment they deserve. I have enormous respect for people like Carpenter coming forward because I know from personal experience how difficult it is to do. Its obvious to me that he could either spend his time with his work rounding up egotistical cats, or he could control everything like an egotistical maniac. I guessed it was likely the latter. That said, i wasny suggesting anything about the character of these particular actors, because I think they are all beyond amazing people. And I absolutely adore the characters and the show. And I also whole heartedly agree that there has been unacceptable damage done with regard to the people that worked on his projects...that is clear, however, the product is what it is... art. I'm baffled as to why anyone would a) mock an abuse survivor or b) defend this asshat of a man and his behaviour.
Let's be clear. Whedon was my childhood hero. I loved Buffy and just thought a dude doing this work was the tops. That he was an excellent feminist supporter. A great guy.
But in 2017 I read about how he had treated his wife. How he had blamed the women he had cheated on her with, citing them as needy and insecure and he was only human and too weak to say no, all the while never once apologising outright for his behaviour.
Then I read about JL and how he had treated the actors on set.
    Now I read this.
I abandoned him as a hero 4 years ago. Regardless of what 11 year old me believed, this isn't ok. He isn't ok.
And he owes these actors an apology. A proper apology.
I've only been hurt indirectly as I had faith in someone who let me down, someone I never knew.
But these people have been seriously harmed and damaged. They deserve justice and to be believed.
Nothing about recognising a former hero is in fact a fraud is fun, but we can all strive to be the good person we thought they were.
And that begins by believing victims, supporting them and listening to them. Because that's what Buffy would do.

Yeah sorry I feel for them but the time to speak out isn’t like 30 years later when he’s most likely done the same to many other women

Why do all these people speak out after so many years? If they spoke out at the time it could have helped so many more people.

Her career tanked after Buffy/Angel. She’s looking for attention. Being irreverent in Hollywood is too much for some people to bear. Whedon has always cast his women characters as strong, and independent. Let’s wait and see when all the facts come out, before we send Whedon into exile.

Unfortunetly I’m not very surprised. On the interviews I’ve seen I had the impression that he was a pretty egotistical person. From my experience people like that are usually jerks so not really surprised to hear this.

Life is a fight. There will always be bullies in any walk of life. I think an important part of life is learning how to rise above discrimination and bullying. I'm not saying it's okay for people to abuse their power but a fear of mine is that in 20 years time everyone will be too delicate.

The problems they were having with Joss Whedon are the reason why they did not consider making more seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Women should not have to go through this at all but it's a little easier to get a lawyer or to quit a job if your financially stable imagine making minimum wage and going through this it happens every day we don't see anybody sticking up for those women

It's great that Buffy Actresses: Sarah Michelle Gellar and Charisma Carpenter spoke out! My guess is that Writer/Director/Producer : Joss Whedon's behavior on the set was similar to ex- United States President Donald Trump.
